# Echo Protocol 0.5.0-beta.2 — The House Remembers
> You were never the only thing being recorded.
This is the first beta release of Echo Protocol and a major update from 0.4.1-alpha.
## Highlights
- Added persistent per-player Echo memory
- Added the Room Memory Graph
- Added generated Memory Threads with 2–4 connected events
- Added seven forms of contradictory memories
- Added memory contamination and observation profiles
- Added four intensity presets: Subtle, Standard, Intense, and Custom
- Added new hidden advancements and English/Russian localization
- Added new operator commands for memory, threads, contradictions, contamination, and presets
## The House Remembers
The world can now remember familiar rooms, routes, sounds, habits, Panic Imprints, and significant events.
Memory Threads connect these fragments into short generated sequences involving:
- Memory and False Memory Echoes
- Audio Residue
- Peripheral Echoes
- Panic Imprints
- Contradictory memories
- The Original
Memory Threads are generated experiences rather than fixed quests or a scripted campaign.
## The Original
The Original now has improved behavior and presentation:
- Visible administrative event spawning
- Faster walking and distinct running behavior
- Acceleration, braking, approaches, and retreats
- Improved body and head tracking
- Door-aware local route planning
- Observation-aware pauses and reactions
- More expressive Waiting, Your Bed, Confrontation, Already Home, and Empty Room events
- Short-lived spectral block-placement actions
Moving Echoes can visually open nearby doors. Replayed block-use actions may also create temporary spectral blocks.
These effects are visual-only and automatically restore. They do not permanently modify the world.
## Event Director 3.0
The Event Director now considers:
- Event history and repetition
- Current danger and combat state
- Active Memory Threads
- Safety and loaded chunks
- Event cooldowns
- Contamination
- Observation style
- Actual spawn success
Failed events no longer incorrectly consume progression or create stale event locks.
## Persistence
Echo Protocol now uses versioned, bounded server-side persistence.
Existing 0.2–0.4.1 progression data can be imported while preserving valid:
- Stage progression
- Cooldown delays
- Familiar locations
The mod does not persist complete movement recordings.
## Multiplayer and Privacy
- Persistent memories, room graphs, threads, profiles, and contamination remain server-side
- Private Echoes are restricted to their target when `shared_echoes=false`
- Private sounds, particles, text, and spectral block reactions remain target-only
- The mod never records microphones, voice chat, IP addresses, private messages, or container contents
## Configuration
Added new configuration options for:
- Persistent memory limits
- Room Memory
- Memory Threads
- Contradictory memories
- Contamination
- Observation profiles
- Intensity presets
- Thread-aware events
Existing valid configuration values and unknown fields are preserved where possible.
The legacy default Original movement speeds are automatically upgraded. Custom movement speeds remain unchanged.
## Requirements
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1
- Fabric Loader 0.16.14 or compatible
- Fabric API 0.116.13+1.21.1
- Java 21
## Beta Notice
This is a beta release. Back up important worlds before installing.
Automated tests, clean builds, and dedicated-server startup have passed. Some multiplayer and subjective visual scenarios still require additional real-client testing.
