EatFood Overhaul

When you eat food, you restore an amount of health based on your fullness level.

EatFood OverHaul
Food heals you. Right now, not eventually.

Minecraft 1.20.1  ·  Forge 47.x  ·  Client and server

What this mod does

In vanilla Minecraft, eating does not heal you. It fills a hunger bar, which quietly refills your health over the next several seconds. EatFood OverHaul cuts out the middle step: eat a piece of bread, get health back immediately.

Everything else the mod touches — eating speed, potion drinking speed, natural regeneration, food fatigue, max health — is something you switch on yourself. Leave a multiplier at 1.0, or a feature at false, and it behaves exactly like vanilla.

Food restores health instantly

When you finish eating, you heal based on the food's nutrition value. With the default multiplier of 0.5, a loaf of bread (nutrition 5) restores 2.5 health — one and a quarter hearts.

Saturation is deliberately ignored. Two foods with the same nutrition heal the same amount, no matter how their hidden saturation values differ. You can override any individual item with an exact number, or exclude items entirely (item IDs or tags).

Eat at full hunger when you are hurt

A full hunger bar no longer stops you from eating. If your health is below maximum, you can eat anyway. The food still heals you at full value, even though the nutrition itself goes to waste.

Get tired of the same meal (off by default)

Turn on fatigue.enabled and the mod remembers your last 10 meals. Eat the same food more than three times inside that window and it starts healing less — 20% less for each repeat past the threshold, down to a floor of 20% of the original value.

Bread normally restores 2.5 health. Eaten back to back, the fourth loaf gives 2.0, the fifth 1.5, the sixth 1.0, and it bottoms out at 0.5.

Only healing is affected. Eating speed, nutrition and saturation are untouched, so a monotonous diet still feeds you — it just stops patching you up. Recovery is simply eating something else: every other meal pushes an old entry out of the history, and the tooltip tells you exactly how many are left.

Bento boxes

A lunch box that carries several kinds of food at once and picks your next bite for you. Four tiers, each holding a separate stack per kind:

  • Leather Bento Box — 3 kinds — 5 leather
  • Copper Bento Box — 5 kinds — 4 copper ingots + 1 leather
  • Golden Bento Box — 7 kinds — 4 gold ingots + 1 leather
  • Diamond Bento Box — 10 kinds — 4 diamonds + 1 leather

It works like a vanilla bundle. Right-click the box in your inventory while holding food to store it; right-click it with an empty cursor to take the last kind back out. Right-click it in your hand to eat straight from it.

Eating from a bento is identical to eating the food directly: same nutrition, same effects, same healing, same particles, same journal entry. With bento.avoidFatigue switched on it reaches for whichever stored food you are least tired of, which is the whole point of carrying one.

Each tier is crafted from raw materials rather than from the tier below, so upgrading can never quietly destroy the food inside an older box.

Eat widely, live longer (off by default)

With maxHealth.enabled on, every 5 distinct foods you have ever eaten grants +2.0 max health — one extra heart — up to +20.0 by default. It counts kinds, not meals, so the reward is for variety rather than volume.

Your record survives death and dimension changes. The bonus is a single attribute modifier that is recomputed rather than stacked, so lowering the cap or turning the feature off removes it cleanly.

The food journal

A book crafted from a book and an apple. Right-click to open it and see every food in the game split into what you have eaten and what you have not, with a search box and your progress toward the next max health step.

Eating and drinking speed

Set how fast food goes down, and set potions separately. Higher numbers are faster: 2.0 halves the animation. Each item keeps its own relative timing, so dried kelp stays quicker than bread. If another mod already changes eating speed, this mod multiplies on top of it instead of overwriting it.

Natural regeneration, on a dial

Vanilla has two separate healing rates hidden behind the hunger system: a fast one that burns saturation while your hunger bar is full, and a slow one that ticks along above 18 hunger. Both are now multipliers.

Turn the fast one down to 0.0 and it stops entirely, falling back to the slow rate. Set both to 0.0 and natural regeneration is gone — food is your only way back to full health.

You can see the numbers

Every food item shows how much health it will restore, drawn as hearts in its tooltip. The figure comes from the same code that does the actual healing, so what you read is what you get — fatigue included. By default it appears while you hold Shift.

Two optional lines can be switched on alongside it: how many more of this food you can eat before you tire of it (or how many other meals will clear it), and whether this food already counts toward your max health bonus.

Hearts when you heal

Healing from food spawns heart particles around you, scaled to how much you recovered. Other players can see them too. If nothing was actually restored — you were already at full health — no particles appear.

Change settings without leaving the world

All settings live in the server config. Edit the file and save, or use the in-game commands, and the change applies on the next tick. No reload, no rejoining. In multiplayer the server decides, and connected clients are re-synced automatically.

Updating from an earlier version

Food fatigue, the max health bonus and the extra tooltip lines all ship switched off. If you do not touch your config, the only thing that changes is that bento boxes and the food journal become craftable — healing, speed and regeneration behave exactly as they did before.

One thing worth knowing: turning on fatigue.enabled does not by itself make bento boxes dodge fatigue. Switch on bento.avoidFatigue as well.

Commands

  • /foodhealing_overhaul config list — show every current value
  • /foodhealing_overhaul config get <key> — show one value
  • /foodhealing_overhaul config set <key> <value> — change a value and save it
  • /foodhealing_overhaul config reload — re-read the config file

Compatibility

  • Modded food works out of the box. Anything with a nutrition value is picked up automatically — healing, fatigue, tooltip, journal and bento boxes included.
  • Other speed mods are respected. Durations are multiplied, not replaced.
  • Install on both the client and the server. Neither side works alone.
  • AppleSkin: AppleSkin displays saturation and predicts vanilla regeneration, which this mod changes. Both mods run fine together, but AppleSkin's estimates will not match what actually happens.

Free to use in any modpack, public or private. No permission needed — a link back is appreciated.

bento.avoidFatigue も合わせて有効にしてください。
