Earthwoven

Explore a world shaped by Earth.

Earthwoven is a geographic world-generation mod by Rein, bringing recognizable continents, mountain ranges, oceans, and regional landscapes into a naturally generated Minecraft world.

Built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, Earthwoven combines real-world geographic datasets with Minecraft’s terrain, biomes, and structures to create an Earth-inspired foundation for exploration, survival, and technology modpacks.

A recognizable world to explore

  • Earth-shaped terrain: Data-backed elevation, ocean depths, coastlines, major rivers and lakes.

  • Regional biomes: Geographic climate and natural vegetation regions guide Vanilla and Oh The Biomes We’ve Gone biome placement.

  • City-based villages: Regular randomized Minecraft villages appear near selected major real-world cities, subject to spacing and terrain suitability.

  • Geographic landmarks: Pillager outposts at selected publicly mapped military-airfield locations and optional AE2 meteorites near historical impact sites.

  • Frozen polar regions: Antarctica and Greenland receive a deliberately barren, icy treatment.

Resources with a sense of place

Explore richer mineral regions and plausible oil-producing areas using geographic resource data.

Earthwoven supports regional concentrations for Vanilla resources and selected resources from Create, TFMG Community Edition and Mekanism, while retaining baseline ore generation elsewhere where native placement rules allow.

TFMG oil uses native underground reservoirs, including offshore concentrations. Surface oil spires are extremely rare.

Climate across hemispheres

Optional integrations with Serene Seasons, Project Atmosphere, Simple Clouds and Legendary Survival Overhaul introduce:

  • Opposite seasons in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

  • Monthly regional temperatures and precipitation patterns.

  • Elevation cooling and temperature-based snow and freezing.

  • Tropical wet/dry variation and geographic cloud-base estimates.

These systems use offline climate normals—not live weather.

Getting started

Choose Earthwoven — Earth when creating a world. The default scale is 1:500; more scales will be added later.

Useful commands:

  • /earthwoven info

  • /earthwoven climate

  • /earthwoven city London

  • /earthwoven tp <latitude> <longitude>

Geographic data is bundled with the mod, so playing does not require downloading map data.

Development status

Earthwoven is currently a development preview. Terrain is vertically compressed, geographic datasets have resolution limits, and rivers, biome transitions, and weather remain approximations. Optional integrations continue to receive testing and refinement.

Back up important worlds before updating. Generation changes generally require unexplored chunks or a new world.

AI-assisted tools helped during development to research geographic datasets and integrate data into the code.

Earthwoven draws on sources including NOAA, Natural Earth, RESOLVE, USGS, BOEM, DOE NETL, and OurAirports. Full dataset credits, applicable licenses, and processing notes are included with the mod.

Compatible mods remain the work of their respective authors. Earthwoven is an independent project and is not endorsed by those authors or the geographic data providers.
