A Deeper Darker Train - Mobs & New Dimension

A Deeper Darker Train - Mobs & New Dimension

Deep down the line, past the stranger stretches you already know, the ride now drops into somewhere darker than anything before it.

A new stretch of the journey. Its own scenery, its own ruins to find, its own sea and its own sky. The track, the tunnels and the carriages all dress for it, and the way the mountains lead you in is one long unbroken climb from the stretch before.

New creatures ride the train. Some carriages deep down carry what lives there, and the stretch itself is home to them too. They are not from around here.

Block info spoiler fix

A block-info mod could give away a hidden surprise in some walls. In survival it now tells you only what you would see with your own eyes.

0.1424.0

No freeze when you earn an advancement

Earning an advancement could freeze the game for several seconds on some computers, because it waited on the disk before carrying on. The save now happens in the background, so the game keeps running while it writes.

  • Earning an advancement no longer waits on the disk
  • Leaving a server no longer holds up the other players while your advancements save

0.1423.0

Smoother ticks and quieter logs

The game's performance notes are now written in the background instead of making the world wait for the log file, and sitting in the pause menu no longer fills your log with false freeze reports.

0.1420.0

Safer with mod updates

If one of the bundled mods updates ahead of the pack, its portals keep working and the game still starts.

Not every pot is quite what it seems

Break them carefully.

0.1419.0

Dev launch improvement

Launching a dev client straight into a world that no longer exists now stops with a clear message listing the worlds that do, instead of a failed load.

Lighter ride through the stranger stretches

The stranger stretches of the line now cost the server less work every tick, so the ride stays smooth with more mobs and items about. Nothing looks or behaves differently.

Shorter autosave pause

The game paused for a second or more every time it autosaved, because the train was being written to disk the slow way. Autosaves now write the train the same way the rest of the world is written, so the pause is much shorter. Saving on quit is unchanged.

  • Autosaves and the pause save no longer wait on the disk for every train file
  • Quitting the world still saves everything fully before it closes

0.1417.0

Quieter passenger log announcements

The public passenger log's milestone and first-ever announcements no longer end with your carriage and difficulty. Where you are on the train stays yours to share.

0.1416.0

Heavy armor keeps helping

Stacking armor and armor toughness now keeps paying off. Armor used to stop helping once it blocked 80% of a hit; now heavier armor and tougher gear keep blocking a little more, slowly climbing toward a ceiling just under 90%. Very heavily armored mobs deep in the run get a little tougher too.

  • Armor past the old limit now blocks more damage, never reaching 90%
  • Armor toughness keeps helping once your armor is maxed out
