Dreamcraft Sound Lanterns

Lanterns that sound like somewhere. Craftable ambient lanterns for NeoForge 1.21.1, plus a full year of holiday lanterns, each with its own build, particles and sound loop. Hold any lantern and it hangs from your hip and swings as you move.

What it adds

• 4 sound lanterns you can craft in survival: Fireplace, Rain, Forest and Ruin.
• 12 holiday lanterns, one for every month, each with a unique hand-built model, themed particles and its own ambient sound.
• Hip-hanging lanterns. A lantern in your main hand or off hand is drawn hanging in front of your hip and swings with gravity and momentum. This works for the mod's lanterns and for the vanilla Lantern and Soul Lantern.
• Per-lantern volume and redstone muting on every sound lantern.

The four sound lanterns

Each one is an open-frame lantern with living particles inside, a looping ambient sound, and light level 15. All recipes are shapeless: a regular lantern plus one themed item.

Volume and redstone

• Right-click a sound lantern to cycle the volume: full, half, quiet, muted.
• A redstone signal mutes the lantern, so you can build hidden on/off wiring.
• Lanterns can sit on the ground or hang from a ceiling.

The holiday lanterns

Twelve lanterns, one per month, all Western holidays. Every holiday lantern is a real block and item with a hand-built 3D model (not a recolored lantern), its own themed particles and its own 12-second ambient loop. All sounds are original, synthesized for this mod. Holiday lanterns use the same right-click volume control and redstone mute as the four originals, give off light level 15, and have a chain when hung from a ceiling.

Item IDs are dreamcraft_sound_lanterns:<name>_lantern (for example halloween_lantern).

January: New Year

• Model: A mirror ball on a pole with a gold cap, banded in silver and ice blue with sparkle studs.
• Particles: Fireworks and end-rod sparkles.
• Sound: Soft bell arpeggio with distant firework pops.

February: Valentine's Day

• Model: A red pixel-art heart on a gold stand, with pink highlights.
• Particles: Floating hearts.
• Sound: A gentle music-box melody.

March: St. Patrick's Day

• Model: A black pot of gold overflowing with coins, topped with a four-leaf clover.
• Particles: Green clovers that tumble down from the top.
• Sound: A plucked Celtic-style jig.

April: Easter

• Model: A decorated egg on a gold stand, striped in pink, yellow, blue and purple with polka dots.
• Particles: Small colored eggs drifting down.
• Sound: Bird chirps over soft bells.

May: Memorial Day

• Model: A flagpole with a gold finial and a flag (blue canton, red and white stripes), with two red poppies at its base.
• Particles: Red poppy petals falling slowly.
• Sound: Slow, solemn pads with a low drum.

June: Father's Day

• Model: A kettle barbecue grill on four legs, with glowing coals, a steak and flames.
• Particles: Grill smoke and small embers.
• Sound: Warm plucked guitar-style chords.

July: Independence Day

• Model: A red, white and blue rocket with fins, white star decals and a flame tip.
• Particles: Fireworks plus red, white, blue and gold stars.
• Sound: Rocket whistles, booms and crackle.

August: Summer Festival

• Model: A sun: a yellow core with orange rays on every side, and sunglasses on the front and back.
• Particles: Rising sun sparkles.
• Sound: Ocean waves with cricket chirps.
• August has no major Western holiday, so this is a seasonal pick.

September: Birthday

• Model: A two-tier birthday cake with pink and blue tiers, white frosting, cherries and three lit candles.
• Particles: Colored balloons rising, plus falling confetti.
• Sound: A music-box birthday tune.
• September is the creator's birthday month.

October: Halloween

• Model: A small, round, stepped pumpkin with a green stem and a carved face on all four sides. Each eye has a white candle with a lit flame inside it.
• Particles: Candle flames flickering in the eyes, plus little bats.
• Sound: A low drone with wind and eerie moans.

November: Thanksgiving

• Model: An ear of corn with golden kernel rows, a green husk and brown silk, on a wooden base.
• Particles: Autumn leaves in orange, red, brown and gold.
• Sound: A warm, low pad with fireplace crackle.

December: Christmas

• Model: A decorated Christmas tree in a pot, with colored ornaments, lights and a gold star on top.
• Particles: Snowflakes and tree sparkles.
• Sound: Bells playing a sleigh-bell tune with shaker rhythm.

Hip-hanging lanterns

Hold a lantern in your main hand or off hand and it appears hanging in front of your hip instead of in your hand, swinging like a pendulum:

• It swings when you speed up, stop and turn, then settles back down.
• It sits lower while you crouch.
• It works with this mod's lanterns and the vanilla Lantern and Soul Lantern, so they all match.

This is a visual effect drawn on the client. Players need the mod installed to see it.

Creative tab

Everything lives in the Dreamcraft Sound Lanterns creative tab.

• The four sound lanterns are shown to everyone.
• The holiday lanterns follow a simple rule: the player named Dreamrage_808 sees all twelve. Everyone else sees only the holiday lantern for the current month (in October, the Halloween lantern).

The holiday lanterns have no crafting recipes. The tab filter decides what shows up in the creative menu; it is not an anti-cheat lock, so a holiday lantern that exists in the world (for example, one handed over by another player, or obtained with commands) works normally for anyone.

Installation

1. Install NeoForge 21.1.x for Minecraft 1.21.1 (built against 21.1.256).
2. Put the mod jar in the mods folder.
3. Install the same jar on the server if you play multiplayer.

No other mods or libraries are required.
