DreamWorld

An exploration-focused mod all about sleeping and dreaming.

Rather than adding a conventional new dimension, this mod introduces the dream world: a pristine mirror of every dimension. It is as beautiful as it is useful. Craft a full set of Dream Alloy gear to reach across space, or take someone special on a boat ride through the skies of a dream.

Entering the Dream

You can now sleep right on the ground, without a bed. However, only sleeping in a bed sets your respawn point.

Whenever a player wakes up, or a creature returns from the dream world to reality, a small pink blob called Dream Clay appears nearby. Interact with it to collect it.

Smelt Dream Clay into Dream Crystals, grind the crystals into Dream Powder using a grindstone, then brew the powder into Dream Tea.

Drinking Dream Tea grants the Dream Walk effect, allowing you to sleep without the usual restrictions. Once you fall asleep, you enter the dream world at the corresponding coordinates.

The dream world is not a separate dimension, but an altered version of your current one. It preserves the original terrain from before players changed it. There is no night, even caves are brightly lit, petals drift endlessly through the sky, and the blocks, sky, and water take on fairy-tale colors.

Blocks in the dream world cannot normally be broken or interacted with, and they do not update to reflect changes in reality. Only Dream Alloy gear can break blocks in the dream world.

Players in the dream world can only be damaged by sources from the dream world.

The colors of the sky and ground randomly swap in the dream world. Ground tints also vary, as do the tints of different block types. These settings can be adjusted in the configuration file.

Other creatures can only reach the dream world by entering a dream. Its only native inhabitants are Blubs: adorably goofy blue-and-white rabbits. They will also appear in the upcoming Sift dimension, but for now, consider this an early introduction.

Blubs occasionally produce Dream Clay nearby. Sleeping beside one lets you fall asleep immediately, and holding Dream Tea will entice them to follow you.

Blubs can appear anywhere players are active and cannot be attacked, but they only spawn in the dream world.

Who doesn't love a world full of adorable creatures?

In the dream world, you can sleep without restrictions. Falling asleep takes you back to reality at the corresponding coordinates.

Boating Through Dreams

Boats are an important means of transportation in the dream world:

  • Row across land as if it were ice, but with much better handling. You can even row through lava.
  • Boats can jump and climb slopes—not with the rigid stepping motion of a horse, but with high-performance, predictive slope climbing.
  • Boats leave sparkling trails behind them!

img

Boating through dreams is a great way to explore: affordable, convenient, and able to take you just about anywhere.

For faster, more consistent travel, you will want Dream Tunnels.

Combine Dream Powder with a painting to craft Dream Graffiti. Place it in either reality or the dream world, and it will appear on the other side as well.

In the dream world, pairs of Dream Graffiti connect to form Dream Tunnels. The number of tunnels can be adjusted in the configuration file.

While riding a boat, interact with a tunnel to attach to it. You can click another tunnel at any time to switch, jump to detach, or press sprint to reverse direction.

Inside a tunnel, your boat travels as fast as it would on blue ice, with a much shorter acceleration time. Its direction is locked to the tunnel, but it passes through all terrain obstacles.

Now that's a cutting-edge way to travel: fast and convenient.

Sleeping near Dream Graffiti also reduces the time it takes to enter a dream. This can be adjusted in the configuration file.

Dream Alloy

Combine Dream Crystals with iron ingots and glowstone to craft Dream Alloy, which is used to make Dream Alloy gear.

The Dream Alloy Sword deals 9 damage. The Dream Alloy Shovel has a mining speed one tier above diamond and can mine any block. The Dream Alloy Wand can be charged to trigger an explosion at a targeted location.

Only Dream Alloy gear can attack creatures or break blocks in the dream world. While holding a dream-alloy item, you can attack real-world creatures from the dream world, but you also become vulnerable to damage from reality.

All three trigger a phenomenon called Dream Intrusion: creatures killed or blocks broken with them are transferred from one side to the other. For example, killing a zombie in reality with a Dream Alloy Sword sends it to the dream world.

Other creatures brought into the dream world fall asleep, lying down where they arrive. They stop moving and cannot take any damage. This offers a way to capture creatures and keep them in an endless slumber.

Blocks transferred into the dream world retain their original colors.

These transfers normally use corresponding coordinates, but the Dream Alloy Spear can change how they work.

The Dream Alloy Spear behaves like a trident, but deals no damage. Throwing it creates a Dream Anchor, and it can lodge in a creature. The anchor exists on whichever side you throw the spear in.

Each player can have one anchor on each side at a time. Anchors affect both Dream Intrusion and the player's travel into and out of the dream world.

Put simply, an anchor on one side fixes the player's reference position on that side to the anchor's location. Transfers then use the player's coordinates as a reference to shift positions between the two sides.

Example 1: You want some pets. Place a Dream Alloy Spear at your home's corresponding location in the dream world, then set off on a journey. Use your Dream Alloy Sword to kill the creatures you want to capture along the way. When they enter the dream world, they will appear at your anchor—back home. Finally, send them back to reality one by one and settle them in.

Example 2: You want a pillager outpost at your doorstep, but don't feel like building one yourself. Place a Dream Alloy Spear outside your home, then find a naturally generated outpost. Blast it apart with your Dream Alloy Wand to transfer it to the dream world. Next, enter the dream world, place another Dream Alloy Spear beside it, and blast it apart again. The outpost will appear at your doorstep. When you leave the dream world, you will arrive right back home, too.

Example 3: Lodge a Dream Alloy Spear in a lightning wyvern. No matter how far it flies, you can enter the dream world and come back out to arrive at its location. In fact, simply throwing the spear can take you quite a distance, too.

With Dream Alloy gear, a journey across space is always within reach.
