Description

Dorohedoro: The Hole

Welcome to The Hole. Survival has never been this twisted.

Dorohedoro: The Hole is an unofficial, fan-made Minecraft mod inspired by the dark, chaotic world of Dorohedoro, created by Q Hayashida.

Leave Minecraft's familiar landscapes behind and enter The Hole, a sprawling, polluted industrial city full of crumbling buildings, twisted alleyways, underground sewers, dangerous creatures, sorcerers' smoke, mysterious doorways and secrets waiting to be discovered.

This project aims to recreate the atmosphere, environments and supernatural elements of Dorohedoro while keeping the freedom and progression of Minecraft survival.

🏙️ Explore The Hole

The Overworld becomes an enormous urban environment with seven distinct districts:

  • Residential District: dense neighborhoods, apartment buildings and decaying streets.

  • Market District: commercial streets, shops and crowded marketplaces.

  • Industrial District: factories, machinery and rusting infrastructure.

  • Waterfront District: polluted canals, waterfront buildings and industrial waterways.

  • Derelict District: ruined buildings, abandoned streets and collapsed structures.

  • Graveyard District: forgotten burial grounds and unsettling surroundings.

  • Outskirts: the crumbling edges of civilization, where the city thins out.

Every building can be explored. Each floor is a furnished room with a purpose: kitchens, bedrooms, workshops, storerooms, clinics, gyoza diners and sorcerers' smoke dens, all connected by walkable stairwells. Below the streets, sewers, storm drains and pump halls wait in the dark.

Every world starts you in a different neighborhood, with a supply barrel to get you through the first night.

💨 Sorcerers and Smoke Magic

  • Choose your origin. Live as a Human and survive on skill and nerve, or awaken as a Sorcerer. A personality test or plain fate decides your smoke family, and it's permanent.

  • Eight smoke families: Mushroom, Reptile, Dismemberment, Healing, Curse, Protection, Time and Destruction, each with its own techniques.

  • Practice and mastery: study techniques to unlock them, raise your rank, and master them for stronger effects.

  • Quick-cast loadouts: nine sets of three techniques on Z / X / C. Cycle them with R.

  • Smoke Flasks: sorcerers can bottle their own smoke.

🩸 Wounds, Limbs and Medicine

In The Hole, injuries are more than lost hearts:

  • Limbs can be severed, and they drop as items.

  • A Surgical Reattachment Kit lets another player sew your own limb back on.

  • High-mastery healing smoke can close wounds and regrow lost limbs.

  • The Body tab of your character record shows every injury and how to treat it.

🪳 Dangerous Creatures

The Hole is home to more than ordinary Minecraft monsters:

  • Sewer Cockroaches: pounce out of the dark.

  • Scrap Rats: skittish scavengers that scatter when you get close.

  • Sewer Leeches: water-dwellers that slow whatever they bite.

  • Cavern Glow Moths: glowing moths that light up the tunnels. Shear their luminous scales.

  • Sludge Crawlers: slow, sticky and hard to shake.

  • Rust Eater Beetles: harmless. They follow anyone holding scrap metal. Brush them for metallic carapace.

  • Cavern Burrowers: heavy underground brutes.

  • Spore Crawlers: poison on hit, and burst into spores when struck.

Each creature drops materials, and every material has a use.

⚒️ Scavenging, Crafting and Survival

Survival in The Hole means using whatever you can find.

  • New ores, in both stone and deepslate: Sulfur, Rock Salt, Zinc and Oil Shale. There's also limestone, scrap and other industrial resources.

  • Craft medical salves, antidote poultices, sewer sealant, zinc and brass, galvanized and rusted plating, cavern lamps, smoke components, exploration gear and more.

  • Brew creature parts into potions: spore sacs, glands, claws, membranes and carapace each make a different brew.

  • Tar burns like coal and makes torches, and hide tans into leather.

  • Item tooltips tell you what each material is for.

Familiar Minecraft mechanics like mining, gathering, building and exploring all still work the way you expect.

🚪 Doors Between Worlds

In Dorohedoro, doors are more than ordinary entrances.

Build mysterious portal structures from special frames, cores and activation tools. The mod includes two more realms:

  • Sorcerers' World: a supernatural realm connected to The Hole through Artificial Doors.

  • Hell: an ominous dimension reached through infernal gateway rituals.

Door linking, destination placement and return travel are still being developed and refined.

🖥️ A Hole-Made Interface

  • A Dorohedoro-themed HUD: your face in a riveted iron frame, with health, hunger and smoke as framed bars with numbers, plus technique sockets and a matching experience gauge.

  • A character record (press B) with Status, Techniques, Loadouts and Body tabs.

  • Custom items and blocks drawn at vanilla scale, so they fit naturally beside Minecraft's own.

🌧️ A Darker Minecraft Experience

  • Dense urban world generation with irregular roads and streets

  • Industrial and ruined architecture

  • Detailed, furnished buildings and interiors

  • Underground sewers and cavern environments

  • Custom blocks, materials, creatures and equipment

  • Supernatural exploration inspired by the lore

  • Traditional Minecraft survival in a dramatically different setting

Rather than adding a few Dorohedoro-themed items to Minecraft, the goal is to make the whole world feel like The Hole.

Vanilla progression is intact. Strongholds and the End, Ancient Cities, trial chambers, mineshafts, villages, the Nether and its fortresses all still generate. You can still beat the game the normal way.

🔧 Development Status

Dorohedoro: The Hole is in beta and in active development.

Current work focuses on city generation, district identities, building interiors, creatures, crafting and portal reliability. Planned for the future: environmental hazards, more supernatural systems, faction interactions, and deeper NPC and survival mechanics.

Some features may be incomplete, experimental or subject to change.

Known issue: searching for an ocean monument (/locate or a cartographer's ocean explorer map) can freeze the server for several minutes. Avoid it for now; a fix is in progress.

📋 Requirements

  • Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.1

  • NeoForge 21.1.265 or later

  • Java 21

Create a new world to experience The Hole's custom generation, especially after updating. Back up existing worlds before installing updates.
