Dom's Generation

Dom's Generation is a Fabric terrain generation mod focused on making Minecraft's Overworld larger, more dramatic, and more rewarding to explore while still feeling like Minecraft.

Version 2.3 is now available as a full release. This update expands the world with more varied mountain ecology, glacial terrain, rocky coastlines, improved structure placement, and additional performance optimizations.

The goal is not to make every part of the world extreme. Plains, forests, rivers, and valleys remain at familiar elevations, allowing distant mountain ranges and rare natural wonders to feel more meaningful when you encounter them.

Version 2.3: Living Landscapes

Version 2.3 builds upon the large-scale geological terrain system introduced in previous releases.

New and improved features include:

• Large, connected mountain ranges that can stretch for thousands of blocks.
• Rare Himalayan regions with extremely tall snow-covered peaks, broad mountain massifs, severe valleys, and expansive alpine landscapes.
• Climate-sensitive mountain ecology with natural transitions between forests, meadows, rocky slopes, snowfields, and glacial terrain.
• Glacial valleys, mountain passes, cirques, scree slopes, and exposed rock formations.
• Regional rocky coastlines with stone and gravel cliffs.
• Coastal headlands, sea stacks, and rare cold mountain inlets.
• Improved structure placement that avoids excessively steep, unstable, or unsuitable terrain.
• More natural transitions between lowlands, foothills, mountain ranges, and high alpine environments.
• Expansive cave systems with larger chambers beneath terrain that has enough rock to contain them.
• Protected upper Himalayan terrain to prevent enormous caves from opening through mountain faces.
• Alpine tarns that form only where the surrounding terrain can safely contain water.
• Natural spillways and waterfalls that can descend between 24 and 160 blocks.
• Reduced packed ice and water-spring frequency in the Himalayas while preserving both as occasional natural features.
• Improved generation performance through shared terrain calculations and cached regional fields.

Large-Scale Terrain

Dom's Generation shapes the world through broad geological regions rather than scattering isolated mountains across the landscape.

You may travel through ordinary plains and forests before reaching foothills that gradually rise into a mountain range. Cold regions can produce the largest snow-covered mountains. Humid regions can form lower green ranges and forested slopes. Dry climates can generate dunes, plateaus, exposed rock, and canyon-like landscapes.

Mountain terrain includes wider summits, connected ridgelines, deep valleys, rocky faces, snowfields, and more intentional slope profiles. The largest ranges can rise beyond Y=500, while plains and lowlands remain much closer to normal Minecraft elevations.

Sea level remains at Y=63, and the underground floor remains at Y=-64.

Rare Himalayas Biome

The Himalayas are a rare custom biome containing the most extreme terrain in Dom's Generation.

These regions feature enormous mountain massifs, high snowlines, exposed rock, glacial accents, broad ridges, and some of the tallest terrain the generator can produce. Their upper mountains are protected from intrusive cave openings, excessive water springs, and surface lava.

The Himalayas are intentionally uncommon so that discovering one remains a major event during exploration.

Installation

Dom's Generation does not automatically replace Minecraft's Normal world generation.

When creating a new world, cycle through the available world types and select:

`Dom To The Max: Alpine Expanse`

For dedicated servers, use:

`level-type=domthemax:alpine`

A new world is strongly recommended. Existing generated chunks will not be changed, and traveling between old and newly generated terrain may create noticeable borders.

Do not install multiple versions of Dom's Generation at the same time.

Requirements

Dom's Generation 2.3 is built for:

- Minecraft Java Edition 26.2
- Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer
- Fabric API for Minecraft 26.2
- Java 25 or newer

Version 2.3 does not run on Minecraft 1.21.1.

The Normal world type, Nether, and End remain unchanged unless the Alpine Expanse world type is selected.

Performance and Compatibility

Dom's Generation creates taller worlds and performs more terrain calculations than vanilla Minecraft. Generating new chunks can therefore be more demanding, especially when flying quickly or using high render and simulation distances.

If the game begins falling behind while exploring new terrain, try reducing render distance and simulation distance. Once an area has been generated, returning to it should require substantially less generation work.

Compatibility with other mods that replace Overworld terrain, caves, biomes, or world presets is not guaranteed.

Version 2.3 has undergone extensive automated testing for terrain continuity, biome routing, caves, Himalayan generation, coastlines, structures, surface materials, lakes, and waterfalls. However, not every seed, structure arrangement, mod combination, or decorated landscape can be tested in advance.

If you encounter broken terrain, unusual structures, severe performance problems, or crashes, please report the world seed, coordinates, installed mod list, screenshots, and relevant log files.

The Goal

Dom's Generation is designed to make exploration feel larger and more memorable.

Mountains should feel worth climbing. Valleys should have room to breathe. A mountain range should feel like a connected landscape rather than a collection of random peaks. Traveling across the world should give you a reason to stop and look at the horizon.

Version 2.3 is the largest step toward that goal so far.
