Dire adds a green toxic gas to the game. It hurts anything standing in it, sinks into low ground and blows up if it meets a flame.
Works on NeoForge and Fabric (Fabric needs Fabric API). Minecraft 26.1 to 26.1.2.
FEATURES
Killing a zombie or any zombie variant leaves a small puff of gas. Killing a creeper leaves a bigger one. A creeper that explodes uses up its gas and leaves none.
Gas sinks first and then spreads out, and it will find a nearby drop to pour into. It ends up collecting in pits, ravines and caves.
It fades slowly, faster under open sky. Water clears it.
You see it as a green haze with drifting wisps. Thicker gas looks denser. It glows faintly so you can spot it at night, but it does not light anything up.
Standing in gas hurts, more the thicker it is, and it can kill you. Armor and shields do not help. Undead mobs are immune. Creative and spectator players are safe.
Gas only moves and fades while a player is within 48 blocks. Far from players it just sits there.
FIRE
These set gas off: torches, wall torches, copper torches, campfires, fire, lava, lit furnaces, smokers and blast furnaces, lit candles and candle cakes, flint and steel, fire charges, burning arrows and anything on fire. TNT and other block breaking explosions set it off too.
These are safe: lanterns, soul torches, soul lanterns and soul campfires.
When a flame touches gas it hisses like a creeper for about 1.5 seconds, then the gas burns. The burn runs through the whole cloud as a chain of small blasts, so a big pool does a lot more damage than a small one. Blasts break blocks unless mobGriefing is off or block breaking is turned off in the config.
ITEMS
Gas Mask: goes in the helmet slot and stops gas damage. It wears down while you are in gas. Repair it with leather.
Recipe: three leather across the top, leather in both sides of the middle row, then iron nugget, charcoal or dried kelp, iron nugget along the bottom.
Bottle of Gas: use an empty glass bottle on fairly thick gas to bottle it.
CONFIG
config/dire.properties is created on first start and every setting has a comment. You can change:
gas amounts from zombies and creepers
damage
update speed and active range
caps per chunk and per tick
decay rate and the open sky multiplier
explosions on or off, blast power, block breaking, chain ignition
whether torches ignite gas when placed, and whether gas ignites when it reaches a torch
fuse length
gas mask wear
There is also a master switch. With it off no new gas is made and existing gas fades away.
FOR MODPACKS
The block tag dire:ignites_gas lists the flames that set gas off. The entity tags dire:releases_small_gas and dire:releases_large_gas list which mobs leave gas behind. Add your own mobs or flames with a datapack.
Gas spread and blasts are capped per chunk and per tick, and those limits are in the config if your server needs them lower.
Feel free to include Dire in your modpack.
