Deep’s Lucky Block — Major Update Devlog

This update is one of the largest overhauls Deep’s Lucky Block has received so far. It expands the event pool, rebuilds the BAD roulette, improves companion events, fixes several long-standing issues, and adds important safeguards for potion effects and high-tier rewards.

A Real European BAD Roulette

The BAD branch now uses a proper single-zero European roulette:

  • 37 pockets: 18 red, 18 black, and one green zero.
  • Final odds remain authentic: 48.65% red, 48.65% black, and 2.70% green.
  • The animation follows the real European wheel order and displays one complete rotation.
  • The green zero is now clearly visible while the wheel passes over it, without increasing the chance of actually landing on green.
  • The final displayed number is always the real result.
  • Colored squares now use a thin white backing for visibility on dark blocks.
  • The lower line only displays the number in the default Minecraft font: white and non-bold.

The original positive roulette was left unchanged.

86 BAD Outcomes

The negative/chaotic branch now contains 86 different outcomes, separated into three roulette categories:

  • Black: direct hostile attacks and dangerous mob encounters.
  • Red: traps, damage, debuffs, destruction, and environmental hazards.
  • Green: neutral or beneficial surprises hidden inside the BAD branch.

The update includes major encounters, terrain transformations, traps, invasions, structures, Pandora-inspired chaos, mimic chests, food corruption, a giant sand hourglass, and many other surprises.

A new green outcome was also added:

  • Dewey Only: Dewey appears alone and keeps all of his healing and companion abilities.

Cat Invasion Rework

Cat Invasion no longer spawns every companion at once.

  • Each event now selects 1–5 companions.
  • Companions are selected without duplicates.
  • The regular pool includes the eleven named cats, Nevada, and Ymir.
  • Dewey has exactly a 10% chance to be included and occupies one of the 1–5 available slots.
  • Dewey can therefore appear alone or alongside other companions.
  • Cats are tamed to the nearby player and can teleport back when they fall too far behind.
  • Nevada and Ymir also use the companion-following system.

Dewey now clearly communicates his ability to the player. While nearby, each Dewey independently heals his owner, meaning multiple Deweys can stack their healing. A visible Regeneration icon is used as feedback, while the actual healing remains controlled by Dewey’s custom system.

New companion messages are available in both English and French, including:

“Take good care of them for me, please.”

Potion Effect Safety System

A safeguard was added for potion effects that could occasionally remain stuck at 00:00.

  • GenerateBad no longer clears an existing effect before applying its own version.
  • Every temporary player effect created directly by BAD events is now tracked individually.
  • Existing effects of the same type are preserved through Minecraft’s hidden-effect system.
  • When an event effect expires, the server explicitly tells the client to remove any ghost icon.
  • If an expired finite effect remains on the server at zero duration, only that exact effect is removed.
  • A previous effect can be restored with its remaining duration when necessary.
  • Different, stronger, longer, or intentionally infinite effects are never cleared.
  • No global potion-effect clear is used.

This protection covers Levitation, Slow Falling, Poison, Blindness, Darkness, Weakness, Slowness, Mining Fatigue, Hunger, Confusion, Dewey’s regeneration indicator, and other direct BAD-event effects.

MASTERWORK Protection Fix

The high-tier reward system received one very targeted correction:

  • Only minecraft:protection was changed.
  • MASTERWORK armor now rolls Protection VI–X instead of being able to receive Protection I or II.
  • RELIC rolls Protection III–VIII.
  • Lower ranks continue through a logical progression, starting with Protection I–II for COMMON.
  • ETERNAL can reach Protection 100.

All other enchantments retain their previous generation rules, limits, special cases, rank boosts, and balancing.

Event Fixes and Improvements

Several events received important gameplay and presentation fixes:

  • Poisoned Gift: the reward chest can now be opened normally before its delayed trap activates.
  • Warden encounter: the scene waits longer for the Warden animation, while the Lucky Snow Golem appears from higher up, glows during its fall, survives the impact, and remains visible.
  • Falling-block events: duplicate entity UUID warnings were fixed.
  • Sand Hourglass: a validated 15×17×15 structure is included, with a Java fallback if the structure file is unavailable.
  • Food Rot: full item data is preserved, temporary food can be restored safely, and offline players receive retry handling.
  • Chest Mimic Field: one real reward chest is hidden among dangerous mimics.
  • Creeper events: several encounters can now include charged creepers and more varied behavior.
  • Nether Warp: destination searching is bounded and spread over time to reduce freezing, with a fallback encounter if no safe destination is found.
  • Heavy terrain and entity events received additional safety and scheduling improvements.

Localization

The expanded event system supports automatic client-side English and French localization:

  • French is selected when the client language begins with fr_.
  • English is used for other languages.
  • Existing language-file translations keep priority.
  • Runtime injection only fills missing translation keys.

Behind the Scenes

The event dispatcher, category pools, test tools, and full sequential event runner were updated for all 86 outcomes. Internal event numbering remains stable for the original 1–85 events, with Dewey Only added as event 86.

Thank you for testing, reporting issues, and helping make this update more polished. Good luck with the roulette — and if Dewey appears, keep him close.
