Death Echo (0.0.0-beta.1)
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
v0.0.0-beta.1 - First version
An echo of you stays where you fell, holding everything you were carrying. Nothing hits the ground.
Added
- The echo: hovers three blocks above your death position with your name over its head. No gravity, no collision, no movement, invulnerable to everything including the void, no loot.
- Full inventory recovery: all 41 slots — hotbar, main inventory, armour and offhand — return to the exact slot they were in. Anything that no longer fits lands at your feet rather than being deleted. The stack you were dragging on your cursor goes too.
- Three ways to claim it: right-click it, punch it, or walk into it. All three give everything back and none of them can cost you anything.
- Experience travels with the echo and comes back with it. Restoring never takes levels away, so dying is not a way to gain them.
- Cosmetic armour support when Armor Cosmetic is installed: the cosmetic set is captured and emptied before that mod can drop it, and restored when you claim the echo. Entirely optional.
- Per-player cap (
maxGhostsPerPlayer, default 5): dying again while at the cap dissolves the oldest echo, drops everything it held on the floor where it stood, and warns you. The count lives in the world save, so echoes in unloaded chunks still count. - On-screen warning when an echo dissolves without you there — a red action-bar message if you are connected, and a queued one on your next login if you are not.
- Persistence: an echo survives restarts, chunk unloads and logging out.
- Config at
config/death_echo-common.toml:maxGhostsPerPlayer,ghostSpawnHeightandcontactRange. Set the last one to0to require a deliberate right-click.
Known issues
- The death cycle has never been tested with a real player. The logic was reviewed twice and the build is clean, but that is analysis, not testing. Treat this beta as a feature preview, not something to run on a world you care about.
- The model has never been seen on screen. Look at the eyes and the hem first: the render is translucent and that is where the art can read badly.
Notes
- Nothing is dropped on death, including armour, offhand, cursor stack and cosmetic armour.
keepInventoryis respected: with it on, no echo is created.- Only Armor Cosmetic is integrated. Other mods' cosmetic systems, and items held in modded inventories such as Curios or backpack blocks, are not captured.
- When the cap releases an echo, its cosmetic armour hits the floor as ordinary items. The pieces are all there, but the cosmetic set's own extra flags (which were marked as a second skin, which were hidden) come back only when an echo is claimed instead of released.
- The cap's counter cannot notice an echo deleted outright by a command or another mod, so it can stay higher than the real number. There is no reliable entity-removal hook to fix that with.
