👻 Death Echo
Die, and your things do not scatter. They wait for you.
✨ Overview
🎯 Features
💻 Nothing reaches the floor
All 41 inventory slots are taken into the echo before the game computes a single drop. Hotbar, main inventory, armour and offhand all go, and they all come back to the exact slot you had them in. If your inventory is somehow full when you claim it, the overflow lands at your feet instead of being deleted. Nothing is ever destroyed.
🎟️ Three ways to claim it, none of them a mistake
Right-click it, punch it, or simply walk into it. All three hand everything back, and none of them can cost you anything. You cannot lose your belongings to a stray click, and nobody else can take them.
🔥 An echo you cannot break
It cannot be moved, pushed, collided with, damaged, killed or cleared. Not by another player, not by a piston, not by the void, not by an admin command. It is scenery with a purpose.
🔢 It remembers
An echo is a real entity in the world save. It survives a server restart, a chunk unload, and you logging out in between. Come back tomorrow and it is still hovering where you fell.
💼 Cosmetic armour included
If Armor Cosmetic is installed, the set you were wearing goes into the echo too — it is captured and emptied before that mod can drop it, and put back on you when you claim the echo. Without Armor Cosmetic installed, Death Echo behaves exactly the same minus that one set of items.
📈 Experience travels with you
Your levels go into the echo with the rest and come back when you do. Restoring never takes levels away from you, so dying is never a way to gain them.
⚙️ A cap, and an honest warning
Five echoes per player by default. Dying again while already at the cap dissolves the oldest one, drops everything it held on the floor where it stood, and puts a red warning on your screen. If you were offline when it happened, the warning waits for your next login instead of vanishing.
⚡️ Respects keepInventory
With the keepInventory gamerule on, no echo is created — there is nothing to keep, and making one would be a free copy of your inventory.
🌐 Fully configurable
config/death_echo-common.toml: how many echoes a player may own, how high above the death position they appear, and how close you have to be for the echo to recognise you. Set the last one to 0 to require a deliberate right-click.

📚 How to use
There is nothing to configure and nothing to craft.
- Die. Your belongings go into an echo hovering above the spot, with your name over its head.
- Go back to it — walk into it, hit it, or right-click it.
- Everything is returned to the same slots it was in.
🔣 Notes for server owners
- Nothing is dropped on death. That is the whole point of the mod, and it applies to armour, the offhand, the stack you were dragging on your cursor, and your cosmetic armour.
- Echoes are ordinary entities in the save. They are
MISC, never removed by the entity limit, and they persist across restarts. Back them up like any other world data. - The cap is world-persistent. The per-player count lives in the world save, so echoes sitting in unloaded chunks still count against it. A player who walks away from their own grave still hits the cap.
- Cosmetic armour is only stored when Armor Cosmetic is present. Without it, Death Echo does not touch that mod at all.
- Modded inventories other than Armor Cosmetic's are not captured — Curios, backpack blocks and similar. The vanilla inventory, armour slots, offhand, cursor and experience are.
