- 1.6.2 locked a singleplayer out of their own world. The zone rules - you can act in your own island's zone and nowhere else - applied in every SkyBlock world, singleplayer included. A world started before 1.6.2 has its whole base at the spawn, which is nobody's zone, so after updating nothing there could be broken, placed or opened any more; a new singleplayer world arrived on a spawn island nobody may touch. The zone rules are now a dedicated-server rule: in singleplayer and over LAN everything behaves as it did before 1.6.2, and the spawn island is simply your home again.
/islandstill works everywhere skyblock.zoneProtection(AUTO,ALWAYS,NEVER) decides it:AUTO, the default, is on for a dedicated server and off otherwise; the other two force it either way- The "build an island of your own" hint on first login only appears where the zone rules apply
