CWSM Optimizations & Feature Lab
A Forge addon for Cracker’s Wither Storm Mod 4.2.1. It improves selected performance and rendering paths, adds configurable gameplay and visual features, and provides compatibility fixes—all while keeping the original CWSM mod and Storm model in place.
Requirements: Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.0–47.x, and Cracker’s Wither Storm Mod 4.2.1. Install the original CWSM separately.
Performance and rendering
- Reduces repeated Storm, entity, target, terrain, and block-cluster lookups.
- Cuts redundant sickness synchronization and skips long terrain raycasts for inactive Storm heads.
- Caches reusable pulse geometry and streamlines preparation of supported animated blocks inside clusters.
- Uses GPU instancing for supported debris, including emissive debris, and can batch adjacent compatible static clusters without reordering them.
- Includes a packed mass-mesh rendering option that preserves the original cubes, UVs, and pulse selection.
- Isolates cluster index buffers and manages render-buffer invalidation across world, resource, and shader reloads.
- Adds compatibility handling for BadOptimizations, ImmediatelyFast, and Oculus/Iris. Shader packs and unsupported rendering paths retain safe fallbacks.
These changes target specific workloads; actual FPS gains depend on the scene, hardware, and installed shader or performance mods.
Feature Lab
Open Cracker’s Wither Storm Settings → Feature Lab to configure world features and client-side visuals. Presets include Only Optimizations, Resource Pack Compatibility, Recommended, Cinematic, and Survival Friendly. Selecting a preset previews the changes before applying them. Fine Tuning exposes values such as ranges, chances, phases, cooldowns, volumes, and animation timing.
Gameplay and progression features
- Wither sickness hallucinations: distorted sounds, visual phantom mobs, fake items in empty inventory slots, and a soft edge vignette. Phantom mobs do not have AI or become world entities; fake-item interactions are checked by the server.
- Off-hand fixes: recognizes important items held in the off hand for Amulet Override and Command Block Tool progression checks.
- Bowels return point: lets returning players use a previously visited safe corridor near the same active boss fight.
- Crop withering: nearby crops gradually lose growth; crop destruction can be configured separately.
- Enchanted Command Book protection: prevents the Storm from pulling in or consuming dropped Command Books.
- Amulet status localization: makes supported Amulet status messages translatable.
- Gradual Phase 3 tentacles: the Storm grows its tentacles progressively as Phase 3 advances.
- Flesh-carrying Endermen: adds a bounded number of nearby Endermen carrying tainted flesh during the late-stage body-hole scene.
- Parrot Storm imitation: a nearby tamed parrot belonging to the Storm’s ultimate target can randomly imitate one of the four original CWSM roar recordings, including longer roars.
- Eye cluster absorption: clusters pulled by a tractor beam shrink as they approach the corresponding Storm eye.
Nether portal attack
At Phase 4 or later, a nearby, undistracted Storm can attack the ultimate target’s portal as they travel from the Overworld to the Nether. The default chance is 50%; the range, vertical limit, phase requirement, and survival/adventure restriction are configurable. Larger portals can also be targeted.
The attack plays a tentacle scene at the Nether arrival portal, blocks re-entry during the sequence, and can destroy the matching Overworld portal. Broken obsidian remnants settle into supported positions as real, breakable blocks. The Feature Lab includes previews for small and large portal scenes.
Storm visuals and tractor beams
- Dynamic Tractor Beam Overhaul: coordinates the native hit flicker, a faint pre-heal beam, eye charge, head movement, beam recovery, and original CWSM audio. Its visual and audio timing, color, and intensity can be fine-tuned.
- Injured heads: can look down and blend smoothly between healthy and injured appearances. A server option prevents injured heads from firing skulls; the downward pose requires that option.
- Experimental underglow: colors only the underside of the Storm’s body and tentacles with an opaque
#0F1C30 material while retaining the original model geometry and animations.
- Experimental idle jaw: closes the original jaw while idle and yields back to native mouth animations when active.
- GPU batching and rendering compatibility: client-side controls let players select the supported batching and compatibility paths.
Language and multiplayer
The addon includes English and extensive Turkish localization for Feature Lab and CWSM settings text. Gameplay settings are server-controlled and require operator permission to change. For synchronized multiplayer features, install the same addon version on the server and connecting clients; client-only visual options affect only the local player.
The previously explored standalone ground-strike attack and Phase 3-to-4 transformation animation are not active features in this release.
