# General Modding Usage Licence
Version 1.0
Copyright (c) 2026 AkaneDevLabs
This licence is a general-purpose licence created and maintained by
AkaneDevLabs for use with Minecraft mods and other modding projects.
This licence text is intended to be used by individual project authors
and copyright holders. The copyright holder of the project to which this
licence is attached is referred to as the "Author" or "Copyright Holder"
throughout this licence.
This licence does not transfer ownership of a project to AkaneDevLabs.
AkaneDevLabs is the creator of this licence text and is not necessarily
the copyright holder of any project using this licence.
## 1. Definitions
For the purposes of this licence:
- "Project" means the Minecraft mod, software project, or other work to
which this licence is attached.
- "Author" means the original creator or copyright holder of the Project.
- "Original Project" means the Project as originally released by the Author.
- "Modified Version" means a version of the Project containing changes,
additions, removals, fixes, or other modifications.
- "Official Distribution" means a version of the Project distributed or
published by the Author or an authorised distributor.
- "Assets" means artwork, textures, models, sounds, music, animations,
logos, icons, and other non-source-code content created specifically
for the Project.
## 2. Copyright
The Project and its original contents remain the property of their
respective copyright holders.
Nothing in this licence transfers ownership or copyright of the Project
to another person or organisation.
The Author retains all rights not expressly granted by this licence.
AkaneDevLabs does not claim ownership of Projects solely because this
licence is used by those Projects.
## 3. Permission to Use
Permission is granted to use the Project for:
- Personal use
- Private use
- Modpacks
- Servers
- Videos
- Livestreams
- VODs
- Educational purposes
- Testing
- Development
- Community projects
Use of the Project under this licence does not require additional
permission from the Author provided that the conditions of this licence
are followed.
## 4. Attribution
Public distributions and public uses of the Project must provide
reasonable attribution to the Author.
Attribution may be provided in any reasonable manner appropriate to the
use, including:
- Listing the Project and Author in a mod list
- Linking to the official Project page
- Mentioning the Project and Author in documentation
- Including the Author in a credits section
- Mentioning the Project and Author in a video description
- Providing a link to the official Project page
The attribution does not need to be displayed in a way that is
misleading, excessive, or disruptive to the user experience.
## 5. Modpacks
The Project may be included in modpacks.
Modpack creators must:
- Credit the Project and Author
- Include the Project in the mod list
- Provide a link to the official Project page where reasonably possible
Modpack creators are not required to obtain additional permission from
the Author provided that these conditions are followed.
A modpack may not claim that the Project was created by the modpack
creator or that the Project is an official part of the modpack creator's
own work.
## 6. Videos
The Project may be used in videos.
Videos publicly distributed online must provide reasonable credit to the
Project and Author.
Acceptable attribution may include:
- A link in the video description
- A mention in the video description
- A mention in the video itself
- A link to the official Project page
- Listing the Project and Author in the video's credits
## 7. Livestreams
The Project may be used in livestreams.
Reasonable attribution should be provided through one or more of:
- Mentioning the Project during the stream
- Including the Project and Author in the stream description
- Linking to the official Project page
- Providing attribution through another reasonable method
## 8. VODs and Archived Content
VODs and recordings created from livestreams are permitted.
If the original livestream already provided reasonable attribution,
the VOD is considered to have satisfied the attribution requirement.
Additional attribution on the VOD is appreciated but is not required.
## 9. Forks and Modified Versions
You may create and distribute Modified Versions of the Project.
Modified Versions must:
- Credit the original Author
- Link to the Original Project where reasonably possible
- Clearly identify the project as modified or forked
- Not claim to be the Original Project
- Describe significant changes where reasonably possible
- Retain a copy of this licence or clearly identify the licence under
which the Modified Version is distributed
Modified Versions may include:
- Bug fixes
- Compatibility changes
- Performance improvements
- New features
- Experimental features
- Community improvements
- Accessibility improvements
- Educational modifications
## 10. Redistribution
You may redistribute Modified Versions provided that the requirements
of this licence are followed.
You may not:
- Claim ownership of the Original Project
- Remove copyright notices from the Original Project
- Remove required attribution
- Present a Modified Version as the official Project
- Impersonate the Author
- Mislead users about who created the Original Project
- Repackage the Original Project in a manner intended to deceive users
- Distribute the Project without the required attribution
## 11. Unmodified Redistribution
Unmodified copies of the Project may be redistributed only when:
- The original copyright notices are retained
- This licence is included
- The Author is properly credited
- The distributor does not claim ownership of the Project
- The distributor does not present the copy as an official distribution
unless authorised by the Author
Where the platform provides a suitable method for distributing the
Original Project directly, linking to the official distribution is
preferred over independently reuploading an identical copy.
## 12. Source Code
The source code of the Project may be publicly available for purposes
including:
- Transparency
- Learning
- Education
- Development
- Bug fixing
- Community contributions
- Creating Modified Versions
You may view, study, and modify the source code of the Project.
Source code from the Project may not be copied into an unrelated project
or reused as the basis of a separate project unless the Author has
granted permission to do so.
Creating an independent implementation based on publicly observable
behaviour or functionality is not prohibited by this clause, provided
that the implementation does not copy protected source code or Assets.
## 13. Unrelated Projects
This licence does not grant permission to reuse the Project's source
code, Assets, or other copyrighted content in unrelated projects.
Permission from the Author is required to:
- Copy source code into an unrelated project
- Reuse Project Assets in an unrelated project
- Create a separate project substantially based on copied Project
source code
- Redistribute Project Assets independently
## 14. Assets
Assets created specifically for the Project remain protected by the
copyright of their respective creators.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Textures
- Models
- Sounds
- Music
- Animations
- Artwork
- Icons
- Logos
- Promotional graphics
Project Assets may be used in the Original Project and authorised
Modified Versions.
Using Project Assets in unrelated projects requires permission from the
copyright holder.
Assets that were created by third parties and distributed under separate
licences remain subject to those licences.
## 15. Branding and Trademarks
The Project's name, branding, logos, icons, and other identifying marks
may not be used in a manner that falsely suggests that a Modified
Version or unrelated project is official, endorsed, or maintained by the
Author.
Creating a Modified Version does not grant permission to use the
Author's trademarks or branding beyond what is reasonably necessary to
identify the Original Project.
The Author may impose additional trademark restrictions where applicable.
## 16. Competing and Replacement Projects
This licence does not prohibit the creation of competing or alternative
projects.
However, a competing or alternative project may not:
- Claim to be the Original Project
- Impersonate the Author
- Use the Original Project's branding in a misleading manner
- Claim to be an official continuation without authorisation
- Remove attribution while incorporating protected Project material
Nothing in this section prevents the creation of independent
implementations or alternative projects that do not copy protected
Project source code or Assets.
## 17. Licensing of Modified Versions
A Modified Version must continue to comply with this licence with
respect to the original Project material.
The creator of a Modified Version may add their own original code,
Assets, and other material under additional licence terms, provided
that those terms do not remove or override the rights and requirements
granted by this licence for the original Project material.
A Modified Version may not relicense the original Project material under
terms that conflict with this licence without written permission from
the Author.
## 18. Third-Party Components
The Project may contain code, Assets, libraries, or other components
created by third parties.
Third-party components remain subject to their respective licences.
Nothing in this licence overrides the licence of a third-party
component.
Where applicable, the Project's distribution should identify relevant
third-party components and their licences.
## 19. Licence Violations
If you violate the terms of this licence, the permissions granted to
you by this licence terminate automatically.
Permissions may be restored if the violation is corrected and the Author
agrees to restore those permissions.
This does not limit any other rights or remedies available to the
copyright holder under applicable law.
## 20. Changes to the Licence
The Author may choose to distribute future versions of the Project
under a newer version of this licence or another licence.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, a licence already granted for an
existing release remains subject to the terms under which that release
was distributed.
A newer version of this licence does not automatically change the
licence of previously distributed versions.
## 21. Warranty Disclaimer
THE PROJECT IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS
OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NONINFRINGEMENT.
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY
CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN
CONNECTION WITH THE PROJECT OR THE USE OF THE PROJECT.
## 22. No Guarantee of Support
Use of the Project does not create any obligation for the Author to
provide technical support, updates, bug fixes, compatibility updates,
or continued development.
The Author may discontinue development or distribution of the Project
at any time.
## 23. Acceptance
By using, modifying, distributing, or otherwise exercising rights
granted by this licence, you agree to comply with its terms.
If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the permissions
granted by this licence.

copyright holders of each individual Project.
