Cubic Reworked

A NeoForge cubic-world engine that stores, streams, and renders terrain as independently loadable 16×16×16 cubes.

Cubic Reworked

A vertically scalable Minecraft world, rebuilt one cube at a time.

Cubic Reworked is an original cubic-world engine for Minecraft 26.2 on NeoForge. It replaces fixed-height world ownership with independently addressable 16x16x16 cubes for storage, loading, simulation, networking, collision, and rendering.

Version 1.0 features

  • A packed vertical block range from Y -2,097,152 to Y 2,097,151
  • Sparse cube storage with revision-safe saves and crash recovery
  • Three-dimensional player loading with render- and simulation-distance support
  • Vertically rotating client rendering through Minecraft's normal block/fluid mesh pipeline
  • Cubic collision, block and sky light, scheduled ticks, random ticks, block entities, game events, and POIs
  • High-altitude building and mining, doors and beds, pistons, fluids, grass, sculk, trial spawners, and height-aware portals
  • Cubic Overworld, Nether, and End dimensions by default
  • Vanilla terrain, caves, structures, features, and biomes inside each dimension's normal generation range

How terrain generation works

Cubic Reworked uses each dimension's configured vanilla generator and imports completed terrain sections into cube storage. This preserves normal world generation within the dimension's native vertical range. Cubes above and below that range contain biome-filled air, ready for building and simulation.

Terrain generation across the entire expanded vertical range is not included in 1.0.0.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.2
  • NeoForge 26.2.0.53-beta or newer for Minecraft 26.2
  • Java 25
  • The same Cubic Reworked version on the server and every client

Save and compatibility notice

Back up valuable saves before opening them with Cubic Reworked. Cubic edits are stored separately under each dimension's cubicreworked/ directory and are unavailable if the mod is removed.

The mod changes packed block positions to a 21/22/21 X/Y/Z split. This enables the expanded Y range and limits packed horizontal coordinates to approximately +/-1.05 million blocks. Mods that assume vanilla build height or coordinate packing may be incompatible.

Current limitations:

  • Terrain outside native vanilla generation height is empty.
  • A small vanilla-column compatibility layer remains for entity and other column-oriented systems; entity storage, mob caps, and forced-load interoperability are not fully cube-native.
  • Compatibility with other world-generation, lighting, rendering, and optimization mods has not been broadly established.
  • Extremely large explored worlds do not yet lazily page cold simulation-index shards.
