Crying Tools is a Minecraft mod that expands upon the Crying Obsidian, with a lot of new items, tools and blocks.

Crying Tools adds:

3 Entities (2 Entity, 1 Boss)
1 Enchantment with new mechanics!

Crying Ore

Crying Ore is a rare ore that generates both in the Nether and the Overworld.

In the Nether; it has similar generation properties of the Ancient Debris, meaning it generates in the form of scatter ores. However, Crying Ore can be fully exposed to air unlike Ancient Debris and slightly generates more.

In the Overworld; it has the identical generation properties of the Diamond Ore instead and it generates as a normal ore, the only differences being Crying Ore generates 2x less and it can be fully exposed to air.

It can also generate in the surface in the overworld, between Y levels 60 and 72 (it's very biased to bottom). It can only replace the dirt or grass on surface. It has a 20% chance to not generate if it's exposed to air (water is not considered air).

When mined, it drops a Crying Residue which can be used to craft a Crying Ingot. It will drop itself if the pickaxe has Silk Touch. The block itself can be smelted into Crying Ingots as well.

A Hard Crying Obsidian is a block that cries 4 times more than Crying Obsidian, it can be used to upgrade netherite tools to Crying ones or it can be used to summon a Crier. To craft it, you need 4 Ghast Tears, 4 Iron Ingots and 1 Crying Obsidian.

It can be duplicated using 8 Iron Ingots.

Lost Crying Block is a block that naturally spawns in Somewhat Normal Island biome in Crying Dimension. It's used to spawn Lost Crier. If the block is interacted with gold ingot in hand, the gold ingot is consumed and the block breaks. It has a 10% chance of spawning a Lost Crier.

Void-Stained Crying Block is the Bedrock counterpart of Crying Dimension. It always spawns at y=0 in Crying Dimension, it acts as the floor for it. You will not take damage if you fall on it.

Eye Connected To A Stick

Eye Connected To A Stick is an item that is used to travel between Overworld and Crying Dimension. When used, it will search a 618x618 area for a solid block where the player can safely stand without suffocating.

It is crafted with an Crying Ingot, Eye and Stick.

Crying Dimension

The Crying Dimension is an odd place consisting of floating islands with an exclusive entity, Lost Crier, and it's the only place where Crying Foods can be found. It can be travelled to using a Eye Connected To A Stick.

It has 2 biomes in it; Somewhat Weird Island and Somewhat Normal Island.

Somewhat Weird Island

Crying Foods generate on the surface in this biome.
Crying Mice track will play in this biome.
Only cat and bats can spawn.
Has ore generation.
Grass is purple.

Somewhat Normal Island

Lost Crying Block generates on the surface in this biome.
Living Mice will play in this biome.
No mobs can spawn naturally.
Has trees.
No ore generation.
Grass is white.

Crying Grappling Hook

Stackable: No

Crying Grappling Hook is a type of grappling hook that only works in Crying Dimension. When thrown, if the hook attaches to a solid block it will pull the user.

It is crafted with 2 Crying Ingots, 1 String, 1 Eye and a Stick.

The Core Ingredient of a Crying Tool is specified by the addition material in its recipe. Core Ingredients are listed below:

A Crying Tool's damage, durability, mining speed, and enchantability on its Core Ingredient. While Gold is the lowest tier, it has two perks—unlike every other tier, which has only one—and it's the only way to spawn a Granter Entity.

Note: Over-hardened Core With Eye can be used only on Crying Pickaxe (with Crying Ingot Core Ingredient) and Crying Sword (with Gold Core Ingredient).

Attack Damage

A Crying Tool’s total attack damage is the sum of its base damage and the bonus damage based on its tool type. A Crying Tool’s total attack damage will not change even if it has a rarer Core Ingredient (like netherite or Crying Ingot).

Perks

Each Core Ingredient has one perk of its own, except Gold which has two perks. The perks of Over-hardened Core with Eye are explained later into this README.

Netherite Core Ingredient

Fire will heal you if you have a Crying Tool with Netherite Core Ingredient in your main hand.

Diamond Core Ingredient

Carry any Crying Tool with Diamond Core Ingredient in your inventory, and suddenly every food looks like it was made by Gordon Ramsay. (Food will restore 2x hunger and saturation)

Iron Core Ingredient

Any Crying Tool except Sword with Iron Core Ingredient can interact with any block to extract an iron ingot from it with 33% chance. If the block doesn't drop any iron ingots after interacting with it after 3 (12 for Block of Iron) times, the block will break and drop nothing, even if it normally would.

Copper Core Ingredient

Lightning is summoned on any enemy Crying Tool with Copper Core Ingredient hits, and this lightning will not hurt the owner of the tool. It will not start any fire either. The chance of the lightning being summoned depends on the oxidation level of the tool.

Gold Core Ingredient

If you hit an enemy with a Crying Sword (or a Crier's Sword) with Gold Core Ingredient while sneaking, they will drop one gold ingot.
If you take damage while holding any Crying Tool with Gold Core Ingredient and don’t already have a Granter, one will be summoned for you.

Note: Since Crier's Sword is crafted with Crying Sword with Gold Core Ingredient, these perks also apply to Crier's Sword.

Oxidation and Waxing

Tools with Copper Core Ingredient will always age, also known as oxidizing. Using a honeycomb and a copper ingot on a Crying Tool with Copper Core Ingredient will turn the tool into its waxed variant and deoxidize it, waxed tools will age 2 times slower.

Waxing is the only way to deoxidize a tool.

Granter

The Granter is an entity that'll travel with the closest player to it, and after 10 seconds it will descend and grant a random positive status effect to its target.

When summoned, a Granter will look for the closest player. When it finds one, it will fix its position above the player's head and follow them around for 5 seconds.

After that, it will start to descend and when it touches the player, the player will get a random positive status effect for 5 to 30 seconds. The status effect's amplifier is always 0 or 1. It will also heal 2 health.

Granter is biased to Regeneration, Instant Health and Saturation status effects so those effects will be chosen more often, but this does not mean any other positive effect will go unchosen.

It cannot be destroyed, or moved to another player if it's following one. Granter will not grant its player neutral or negative effects.

Evil Granter

Evil Granter is a variant of Granter that only grants a random negative status effect to its target. The length and amplifier of the status effect it grants is the same. Unlike normal Granter, Evil Granter is not biased to any status effect and the effect it'll choose is completely random.

Over-hardened Core With Eye Core Ingredient

Over-hardened Core With Eye Core can be used to craft a Crying Pickaxe with the Over-hardened Core With Eye Core Ingredient or a Crier's Sword.

How to obtain an Over-hardened Core With Eye Core is explained below.

Crying Pickaxe with the Over-hardened Core With Eye Core Ingredient

To craft one, you need a Crying Pickaxe with Crying Ingot Core Ingredient, a Gold Ingot, Over-hardened Core with Eye. After crafting, any existing Fortune or Silk Touch enchantments will be removed. But don't worry, Fortune and Silk Touch are still there.

If a player breaks a block with a Crying Pickaxe that has the Over-hardened Core With Eye as its Core Ingredient while NOT sneaking, the pickaxe "acts" like it has Fortune III. If player IS crouching, it "acts" like it has Silk Touch. For example, breaking Deepslate Emerald Ore while sneaking will drop the block itself. While not sneaking, it will drop between 1 and 4 four emeralds (due to it "having" Fortune III). This will work even if the pickaxe it was made with didn't have Fortune or Silk Touch.

Crier's Sword

Crier's Sword is crafted with a Crying Sword with Gold Core Ingredient, a Gold Ingot, Over-hardened Core with Eye.

Since the Crier's Sword's base has Gold as Core Ingredient, it has the perks of Gold Core Ingredient as well summoning an Evil Granter to any surviving mob it hits. It is the strongest weapon but will not damage players except it's a Crier using it.

Switching to another Core Ingredient

If you have a Crying Tool with a Core Ingredient that's not Over-hardened Core With Eye, you can switch the Core Ingredient for a different one. It doesn't matter which Core Ingredient or tool type it is, you can switch it with a Gold Ingot, Crying Tool and Core Ingredient of your choice (Crying Ingot, Netherite, Diamond, Iron, Gold).

Crying Shield

Crying Shield is a special kind of armor that blocks damage on its own but it's its effectiveness depends on whether the player is sneaking. It is crafted with 6 planks and 1 Eye.

When equipped it will spin around the player. For convenience, it is not visible in first person perspective.

If the player is sneaking while having Crying Shield equipped, the shield will have 90% damage protection and it'll reflect half of the damage it blocked. However if they are not sneaking, damage protection is 25% and shield will not reflect any damage.

Crying Armor

Crying Armor is strongest tier of there is for armor. Wearing any Crying Armor will enable the Sanity mechanic.

Crying Armor is crafted with any Netherite Armor, one Crying Ingot and one Hard Crying Obsidian.

Crying Chestplate with Elytra

Crying Chestplate with Elytra is Elytra and Crying Chestplate combined into a single item.

This item makes it so the Elytra won't take damage while gliding with it, but will also break if the chestplate breaks.

To craft one, you need a Crying Chestplate, an Elytra and one Phantom Membrane.

Sanity

When you wear any piece of Crying Armor, you need to control your Sanity so the armor can give you more protection.

Your sanity level determines how much extra protection Crying Armor gives you. The higher your sanity level is, higher the extra protection the armor will give you.

Maximum sanity level can be increased with wearing more Crying Armor, for every 1 armor the maximum sanity level increases by 5. Since you can wear 4 armor, the highest it can be is 20.

The protection is calculated with the formula %20 * (MaxSanityLevel * (sanityLevel / MaxSanityLevel)), the protection is capped at 80%.

If your sanity level hits zero, armor will not give you any extra protection.

Your sanity will increase or decrease based on your actions, for example eating a poisonous food will drain your sanity. Your sanity will always regenerate unless it hits maximum level or it's collapsed.

On Hard difficulty, sanity regenerates every 30 seconds.
On Normal difficulty, sanity regenerates every 20 seconds.
On Easy difficulty, sanity regenerates every 10 seconds.
On Peaceful difficulty, sanity regenerates every 0.25 seconds.

Collapsing

If you do certain things, your sanity will collapse. If your sanity collapses, you can't regenerate sanity and you will not get the extra protection sanity grants you until your sanity recovers. You can see why it collapsed on the HUD.

Drinking water from a glass bottle will speed up the recovery process by 100%.

Actions that may cause sanity to collapse

Getting your sanity drained by (max_sanity / 2) or more while wearing 2 or more Crying Armor (collapsing duration: 5 minutes)
Staying in an area with lower light level than 4 for 30 seconds (collapsing duration: 6 minutes)
Staying too long in a biome with a temperature of 0.3 or lower (collapsing duration: 7 minutes)
Killing a villager, cat, tamed animal, wandering trader, iron golem, snow golem or an allay (collapsing duration: 15 minutes)
Eating pufferfish (collapsing duration: 30 minutes)
Eating rotten flesh (collapsing duration: 5 minutes)

Actions that drain sanity instantly

Taking damage from any hostile or angered neutral mob or slime, drains (damage / 4) sanity
Eating a food that's bad for you, drains nutrition / 2 sanity (pufferfish and rotten flesh are exceptions)
Keeping HP under 50%, drains 1 sanity every 10 seconds

Actions that regenerate sanity instantly

Drinking honey or water, regenerates all sanity
Taming a tameable animal, regenerates all sanity
Eating food that's not bad for you, regenerates nutrition / 2 sanity
Killing an illusioner, regenerates 16 sanity
Killing a witch, regenerates 8 sanity
Killing an enderman, ghast or endermite, regenerates 5 sanity
Killing an evoker, regenerates 4 sanity
Killing an hostile entity, regenerates 1 sanity
Eating a Crying Apple, regenerates 2 sanity

Crying Food

Crying Food is a special type of food that is only found in Somewhat Weird Island biome in Crying Dimension. They can be found on the surface.

Every player has a counter that tracks how many Crying Foods they have eaten during their journey. As players consume more Crying Foods, their sanity improves and grants extra protection. This protection is capped at 80%. The formula for the extra protection is (eaten_crying_food_count / 9888) * 0.8%.

This extra protection is only active when the Sanity mechanic is activated.

You can see how many you've eaten if you open your inventory.

/crying

/crying is a command that is used to manipulate the player's Sanity.

/crying: Reports the mod's version
/crying sanity deactivate: Deactivates Sanity mechanic (if it's active).
/crying sanity activate: Activates Sanity mechanic (if it's deactive).
/crying sanity clear: Clears all effects and resets Sanity level to 0.
/crying sanity collapse TICKS COLLAPSE_REASON: Collapses Sanity with the given duration and reason.
/crying sanity set sanityLevel LEVEL: Sets the Sanity to given level.
/crying sanity shouldRegen [true|false]: Allows or prevents Sanity from regenerating.

Hardened Core Piece

Hardened Core Piece is an item dropped by killing a Lost Crier. A Lost Crier has a 10% chance of dropping a Hardened Core Piece when killed.

It is used to craft a Hardened Core with 8 Hardened Core Piece and one Hard Crying Obsidian.

Eye is an item used to craft Over-hardened Core with Eye, Crying Grappling Hook, Crying Shield and Eye Connected To A Stick. It is only obtainable by killing a Crier.

Over-hardened Core with Eye is a block used to craft a Crying Pickaxe with Over-hardened Core with Eye as Core Ingredient or a Crier's Sword. It cannot be placed on any block.

If it gets placed on any block, it will instantly break and drop itself. Item frames are an exception to this, since they are an entity and not a block.

To craft one, you need 1 Eye and 1 Over-hardened Core.

Crier

The Crier is a boss that can be summoned by a player, it is the only source of Eye. To summon one, a player must place 4 Crying Obsidian, 2 Chains and 1 Hard Crying Obsidian like this.

It always spawns with a Crying Shield. It will only deal 1 damage until its shield breaks. When it breaks, it will equip a Crier's Sword and deal higher damage.

When summoned, it will initialize an explosion that can break all blocks except bedrock. This explosion won't do any damage.

It has 618 + ((playerCount - 1) * 25) health points and it's completely immune to fire, suffocation, drowning, fall, projectile and mace damage. It blocks all attacks with its shield until the shield breaks. The shield has 336 durability.

If it's in a pit or a deep hole, it will start to fly to escape and attack its target.

It won't die unless the fatal hit was from a player.

If a Crier feels threatened, it can do these when it takes damage:

It can drink of a Potion of Healing III with 5% chance.
It can create an explosion with 2 power with 4.5% chance.

Healing

If a Crier is drinking a Potion of Healing III, it can't be damaged and it cannot move. Drinking takes 1.6 seconds and it heals 16 HP.

It's permanently affected with the Weakness status effect, and can't get any other status effects other than Weakness. If a Crier hits a player, it has a %20 chance to give the player Weakness 1 effect for 5 * (local_difficulty).

It can break doors almost instantly and walks faster in water than other mobs.

Second Phase (Forlorn Crier)

A Crier's second phase will start when it loses 80% of its health.

It will create one last explosion with 2.25 power, it will scream and get stronger.

It deals 3 extra damage.
It can block attacks with its shield 50% more (%75 chance in total).
It will drink Potion of Healing 20% more (%25 chance total).
It will never create an explosion again.

At this point, it has become forlorn.

Crier will also attack these mobs:

Crier will drop Eye items when it dies, the number of Eyes dropped depending on how many players attacked it.

Crier's Heart

Crier's Heart is a trophy item that's obtained by killing a Crier. Every Crier will drop one Crier's Heart no matter the player count.

It will start to beat if placed on any block. If the weather is thunder, it will beat faster. If it's raining, it will beat slower.

Lost Crier

The Lost Crier is a passive entity that can drop Hardened Core Piece when killed.

It doesn't spawn naturally, so Lost Crying Block is required to spawn it. Feeding a gold ingot to a Lost Crying Block has 10% chance of spawning a Lost Crier.

It has 206 health and 50% knockback resistance. It will never attack any player or mob. It will turn into a Crier if it spawns in the Overworld.

Where to obtain: Enchanting Tables and Librarian Villagers

Bane of Criers is both a Status Effect and an Enchantment. If a weapon enchanted with Bane of Criers is used on a living entity, the entity will be given the status effect. When an entity has the Bane of Criers effect, it will take 2 times more damage from all damage types. The duration of the effect depends on the enchantment level, the formula being 2.5 + 1 * (level - 1).

When an entity has the Bane of Criers, they will cry.

You can also brew a Bane of Crier's potion using a Crying Residue. The potion can be extended to 8 minutes.
