It's meant to be a challenge for those who want it, essentially. There's several features meant to catch you off-guard, and there will be more added eventually.
Right now we have the Ender Shard item, obtained in groups of 8 when a eye of ender explodes, now a 100% chance, complete with firework effects! These shards stack in 7, and you need 9 to make a full Eye of Ender again, meaning you constantly have both 1 too many but you need 1 more.
*** There has been a bug fix released for this mod, your world could become unplayable if you do not install it - follow the instructions in the bugfix description
