Description
Critterworks is a mod centered around using various critters for automation tasks.
Currently there are two main critters, though more will be added in future.
Scoochworms
The Scoochworm is essentially a living train, that's good at carrying a large amount of items a long distance. They're made up of multiple entities, with the head dictating travel and the segments trailing along.
Scoochworms can only travel along Scoochstems, but can do so on every side of the block. You can bonemeal Scoochstems to extend them, growing more.
Scoochworms can be found in large apple structures found in Lush Caves, along with Scoochstems and various colors of Dyeberry, which can be used to recolor Scoochworms or yourself.
Colored Scoochstems only allow Scoochworms of a matching color to travel along them!
Scoochworm segment entities can have various attachments to perform various functions:
- Saddles allow you to ride the segment
- The Lockbox adds a 27 slot inventory to the segment.
- Any items that the head passes over will be eaten, transported to the first Lockbox that they can fit into.
- While the segment with the Lockbox is upside down, it will open, and its items will come pouring out!
- They also have an exposed item handler for entity item automation, so Hoppers and anything else that supports that capability can interact as well.
The Stem-Encased Comparator will output a signal based on the amount of items held by any Scoochworm segment currently using it as a support.
The Scoochworm Depot will prevent Scoochworms from detaching from it while it has a redstone signal. In tandem with the Stem-Encased Comparator, this allows you to lock the Scoochworm in place until it's done being emptied!
Hopping Spider
If Scoochworms are trains, Hopping Spiders function more like item pipes. Scoochworms are to move things from your quarry to your base, Hopping Spiders are to move things from your chest to your furnace and back.
Hopping Spiders are techncially not mobs. They're items, which function when inserted into Hopping Spider Nests.
Using Artificial Spinnerets, place Web Lines along any two arbitrary points along the faces of blocks. Web Lines can also connect to other Web Lines, making Web Networks!
If a Web Network is connected to a Hopping Spider Nest, any held Hopping Spiders will come out to wander them aimlessly. To give them purpose, use Web Ports.
Place a Web Port on any Web Line node that's attached to a block to allow Spiders to insert or extract items from that block. Web Ports have 4 settings:
- Color
- Priority (higher is more important)
- Input (take items from block) or Output (insert items into block)
- And they can also hold an Item Filter (whose logic I copied entirely from my other mod, Excessive Utilities)
Spiders without jobs will look for something to do. They'll check high priority input Ports first, then see if there's any filter-matching items that can go to output Ports of the same color, with high priority Ports being checked first.
