Create: Train Functionality

> Build on your Create train while it drives. A Functional Fob makes a carriage's blocks real: place and break them, open chests, run machines. Disassemble and your build stays in the world. Early build — back up first. ---

What's new

0.1.32 — 2026-10-16

Drive a buildable train by Create's own Redstone Links - no DashPanels needed - or from a DashPanels desk anywhere in the cab or a Create: Aeroworks console; an Axle Generator that turns the train's motion into power; a Bells & Whistles pilot that clears the line; Bridging Mod on the deck; and a new look for all four blocks. Everything since 0.1.22, in one go. (0.1.23 to 0.1.31 were test builds and were never public.)
  • NEW — the Dashboard Controller works without DashPanels: drive by Create's Redstone Links. Sneak + right-click the controller with a wrench on the face you want, and that face gets eight frequency slots on Create's red and blue pads, in four pairs: Forward, Reverse, Brake and Station. Click an item onto a slot to set it, as on a Redstone Link (nothing is used up). A Redstone Link, Create's handheld Linked Controller or a lectern controller on the same frequency then drives the train from anywhere in range: the signal strength on Forward sets the speed (15 is full speed), Reverse backs it at Create's quarter speed, Brake stops it, and Station takes it to the station ahead. Forward is the way you looked when you placed the controller, and it must face along the track. Out of link range it lets go and the train coasts to a stop, so a train can never run away from its transmitter. Sneak + wrench again to go back to panel mode, or to move the slots to another face. The slots and their frequencies are kept through disassembly, and stay on the same side when a piece or a schematic is put down turned.
  • NEW — a DashPanels dashboard can stand anywhere in the cab, on a Control Cable. With nothing on top of the controller, a DashPanels Control Cable touching it connects every desk on that cable - standing on the floor, on a wall or hanging from the ceiling. When you attach the cable a small screen asks "Which way is the front?", with the two ends of the train as two buttons: pick one and every desk on the cable drives towards it, whichever way the desk faces (forward at full speed, back at a quarter, as at Create's own controls). Right-click the controller with an empty hand to change it; until you pick, each desk drives the way it faces. Only a desk with driving controls drives, so a door or horn panel on the same cable is left alone. Two controllers on one cable share one front. On a server, only someone who could right-click the controller can set it.
  • NEW — Create: Aeroworks consoles drive the train. A control desk, control stand or joystick block on top of a Dashboard Controller works like a DashPanels panel: the joystick drives and steers at junctions, a lever or the throttle quadrant's red lever is the throttle, a wheel or yoke steers, a pedal brakes and a button is the station button. Rename a module throttle, reverse, left, right, brake or station to give it that job (a button you named something else, such as "Horn", does nothing to the train). Consoles Aeroworks has joined into one desk drive as one cab. A stick drives only while someone sits at the console - Aeroworks springs it back when they stand up - and a lever stays where you left it.
  • NEW — a station button. A DashPanels momentary switch, DashPanels Expanded's spring button, an Aeroworks button, the Station frequency, or any control renamed station sends the train into the station ahead and stops it there - the same as pressing Space at Create's own train controls, with Create's reach. Leave the other controls alone and it carries on, then waits at the station; move the throttle or stick, or pull the brake, to take over again. Nearby players are told "Approaching ..." or "No station ahead to approach".
  • NEW — a Dashboard Controller counts as the train's controls. With its panel, desk or console - or in frequency mode on its own - it counts for Create the way a set of Train Controls does, at the end it drives towards. So a train whose only controls are a dashboard can be assembled, and a cab at each end (Create's controls, dashboards, or one of each) makes a two-way train that a schedule can send backwards, with a conductor at that end. As in plain Create this is settled when the train is assembled; right-click the controller to see which end it counts for. (A desk on a cable counts if it has a joystick, gearshift or brake lever, or once its front is chosen.)
  • CHANGED — one driver per train, and a cab facing across the train does nothing. Two cabs pushed at once both drove the train: it sped up, and burned fuel, twice as fast. Now the one that took the train keeps it while it drives and the others stand aside - so a lever left pushed in one cab keeps the train until it is put back. A panel, console or controller facing across the train drove it backwards at full speed when pushed forward; it now does nothing, and the goggles and a right-click say so. Place them looking along the track.
  • NEW — the Axle Generator: power from the wheels. Put it on a buildable train with its front against the front or back of a bogey, and the train's motion comes out as rotation through the shaft opening on top: the faster the train, the faster it turns (as fast as that bogey's axle, up to 256 RPM), supplying 32 stress units per RPM. Parked, it stops; reversing the train reverses it. The pair on one bogey, front and back, runs one Create Crafts & Additions alternator. Recipe (shaped): brass sheet, shaft, brass sheet / chain, electron tube, chain / brass sheet, sturdy sheet, brass sheet. Servers: axleGeneratorCapacityPerRpm and axleGeneratorMaxRpm in the config.
  • NEW — a Bells & Whistles pilot (cow-catcher) clears the line. On a buildable train, a pilot clears a 3x3 opening in front of its pointed end while the train runs that way - three blocks across and three tall, from the pilot's own row up, the size of a train: snow, snow blocks, powder snow, dirt, coarse dirt, gravel, grass blocks, podzol, rooted dirt, mycelium, sand and red sand, and snow lying beside the rails a row lower. What it clears drops as items. It does nothing parked, running backwards or on a slope, and never takes a track, the ground under a track, anything with a block entity, a block whose removal would drop gravel or sand onto the train, or a block that a torch, sign or rail stands on. In claimed or spawn-protected land it is refused as a player would be. Only on buildable trains. Servers: pilotPlow = false turns it off, pilotPlowDropItems = false makes cleared blocks vanish instead, and the block tag create_train_functionality:pilot_clears is the list, so a datapack can change it.
  • NEW — Bridging Mod works off a buildable train's deck. Stand at the edge of a deck, look past it and right-click with a block: it goes on the train against the deck's edge, as it does off any ledge, so you can build outwards and forwards without crouching and turning round. Your Bridging settings apply as they do anywhere. Only buildable trains, not other Sable ships.
  • NEW — goggle information for all four of this mod's blocks. Wear Create's goggles and look at the Functional Fob (which train and carriage it makes buildable), the Chunk Anchor Lever (on or off, and what that means for the train), the Dashboard Controller (its mode, what it reads, what it is doing, which side its slots are on) or the Axle Generator (against a bogey or not, turning or stopped, its RPM and stress). Looking at a panel or console on a controller shows the controller's.
  • NEW — the mod has its own creative tab, with the Functional Fob for its icon.
  • CHANGED — a new look for all four blocks: blackened iron, aged brass, dark walnut and oiled leather, in place of the bright brass and borrowed textures. Each keeps its size and shape and does what it did. The Dashboard Controller shows which way it faces from every side (a gauge and an amber sight glass at the front, brass arrows pointing to the back); the Functional Fob's glass ring glows amber while its train is assembled, and its item is now the small tilted plate instead of a flat square; the Axle Generator has a coupling hub, cooling fins and a gauge on each side; the Chunk Anchor Lever's lamp is an amber lens on top, seen from standing height, and flipping it on no longer puffs red redstone dust. A resource pack can change any of them.
  • FIXED — players sitting on seats you built onto a train did not count as its passengers. Create's "Player Passengers" schedule condition counted only seats that were on the carriage when it was assembled, so a schedule waiting for a rider on a seat added later, or on a furniture mod's seat, waited for ever. Every player seated anywhere on a buildable train now counts, once.
  • FIXED — a possible long freeze from that passenger count while none of a train's build was loaded. Not seen in play; found by reading the code, so this closes a risk rather than a reported fault.
  • FIXED — a block placed against a bogey of a buildable train vanished. It flashed up and disappeared, and only sneaking placed it (which also turned a Dashboard Controller the wrong way round). A block now goes in without sneaking and faces the way it would anywhere else. The bogeys themselves still cannot be wrenched or broken until the train is disassembled at a station.
  • FIXED — a block in your hand goes onto a Dashboard Controller without sneaking (a panel, a cable). An empty hand still shows its status.
  • CHANGED — a Create: Simulated swivel bearing on a buildable train. Its contraption could be drawn ahead of its bearing while the train moved (about 3 blocks at speed, lined up again when it stopped). In single player the contraption (and an airship docked or roped to the train) is now drawn on the train's clock, and it looked right in testing; on the server side it was measured staying on its bearing, locked or spinning. If yours still runs ahead, please report it with your log.
  • FIXED — the station button on a cable desk looks towards the front you chose. If you chose the back end of a train that has Create's controls at one end only on the "Which way is the front?" pop-up, the desk drove that way but its station button still searched from the other end and sent the train back to the station it had just left. It now finds the next station towards your chosen front (or the way the train is moving). Two-way trains, and a front chosen at the train's own front, work as before. Schedules still treat such a train as one-way until it is disassembled and reassembled at a station with the front chosen.
  • Upgrading from 0.1.22: this version reads some controls that 0.1.22 did not (desks on a cable, Aeroworks consoles), so a lever or gearshift found pushed when you first load an older world is held at rest until you move it, rather than driving a train off with nobody there; the goggles and a right-click say so. A world saved with this version and opened in an older one forgets each controller's chosen front; nothing else is lost.

Love you guys :)
