Create: Nuclear Industry
a Create addon that adds nuclear fission.
radiation is actual particles flying around. they bounce off blocks, get soaked up by some materials, and go through water. that's why water matters: it cools your rods but it also makes the reaction stronger. you build reactors rod by rod, so how you lay them out decides if it runs fine or melts down.
What's in it?
Uranium Ore: spawns underground, and crushing redstone has a small chance to give some too. Mix it into Enriched Uranium Nuggets, then craft 9 nuggets into Enriched Uranium.
Uranium Fuel Rods: the core of your reactor. Put them near each other and they start a chain reaction, hitting each other with radiation and building heat. They glow brighter the hotter they get. Let one reach 1000°C and it melts down: the rod turns to lava and explodes, the blast gets bigger the more rods are nearby, and the heat cascades into the rest of your reactor.
Boron Control Rods: soak up radiation and slow the reaction down. Put them between your fuel rods if you don't want things to go wrong.
Water: both rod types can be waterlogged, and water changes everything. It acts as a moderator (radiation that passes through water heats the next rod a lot more) and as a coolant (submerged rods lose heat faster). A reactor running underwater gives off a bright blue Cherenkov glow that gets stronger as it heats up. Build your reactor in a pool and use Create pulleys to raise and lower the rods; the water stays behind when they come out.
Heat Pipes: carry heat from your reactor to your boilers and gauges, and spread it out to help keep things stable.
Boiler: connect it to the heat network and pipe water in. Once it's over 100°C it boils the water into steam, and the hotter it is the faster it boils. Boiling also pulls heat out of your reactor, so no water means no steam and no cooling.
Steam Turbine: pipe steam into the back and take rotation off the shaft on the front. It always spins at a steady 16 RPM, and the more steam goes through it the more stress it can handle, up to 10,000 SU. Most of the steam comes back out as exhaust, so pipe it away (a cooling tower works great) or the turbine backs up and stops.
Heat Gauge: reads the temperature of the heat network it's part of. It gives off a redstone signal from 0 to 15 across 0 to 1000°C, shows the temperature with Create goggles, and works with Display Links so you can put it on a board.
Creative Heat Source: holds any temperature you set, for testing builds without a real reactor.
Radiation is simulated as actual particles flying through the world. They bounce off walls, pass through water, and get absorbed by different materials.
If they hit you, you get Radiation Sickness: slowness, weakness, nausea, mining fatigue, and the occasional bit of damage.
Boron rods absorb the most, stone and dirt absorb some, obsidian absorbs a lot, and iron absorbs nothing at all: it just reflects everything back.
Creative mode players are immune, and milk cures it.
