What's new
0.4.18 — Performance & compatibility pass
Mostly invisible in single player. If you run this on a server with big crafter arrays, this is the update you want.
⚡ Performance
- A grid's orientation is now worked out once per array instead of once per crafter. A single neighbour update next to a 9×9 array used to trigger 81 full scans of all 81 blocks — every time a crafter was placed, broken or wrenched. It now triggers one. This was the main cause of tick lag on large builds.
- Grid scans no longer allocate memory on the hot path; the search buffers are pooled.
- Create's kinetic network no longer pays for this mod. Rotation propagation runs for every kinetic block of Create and of every Create addon; the mod used to allocate an object on each of those calls. It now allocates only when a Mechanical Crafter is actually one end of the connection.
- Loading a chunk settles a whole array in one pass and no longer sends one redundant block-entity packet per crafter.
- Cheaper wrench detection on right-click, and cheaper ordering of merged input slots.
🧩 Compatibility
- No more mixin on vanilla
Block. The mod no longer touches any vanilla block class. - No more
@Overwriteon Create. Every hook now cancels at HEAD instead of deleting Create's method body, so other mods hooking the same methods keep working rather than being silently overridden — and two addons doing this no longer crash the pack on load.
🐛 Fixed
- Placement inheritance actually works now. Placing a Mechanical Crafter against a floor or ceiling array that had been set with the wrench never inherited its orientation: the hook sat on a method Create's kinetic blocks do not call. You had to wrench every new block by hand. It has been broken for as long as the feature existed.
- The wrench mode sent by the client is now range-checked before being written to the item.
⌨️ Controls
- The Shift used with the scroll wheel is now rebindable: Wrench Mode Modifier, Left Shift by default, in Options → Controls.
- Removed the separate "Cycle Wrench Mode" keybind. It did the same job as the scroll gesture and took up a second slot in the controls screen for one feature.
- Out of the box the new binding shares Left Shift with Sneak, so the controls screen shows both in red. That is harmless: it is only read as a held modifier, it never consumes the key, and sneaking still works normally. Rebind it if you would rather it be its own key.
- Leaving the binding unassigned is a supported setup: the wheel then needs no modifier at all, but is only read while you are aiming at a crafter, so it can never eat a normal scroll.
- With
wrenchScrollInput = DISABLEDthe mode can no longer be changed at all, since there is no fallback key any more. The wrench tooltip says so and points at the config.
