What's new

Features

  • Computers are ten times faster: from 4,000 instructions per second (Tube Computer) to a million (Modern Computer), enough for 3D scenes on the Modern Computer
  • string.format is about three times faster
  • Screens reach the players 20 times a second instead of 10, in a smaller format: a 3D scene in true colours costs the server 8 times less time and the network 3 times less. The setting is now called terminalSyncTicks, so a server updated from an older version gets the new value too (a value set by hand under the old name goes back to 1)
  • New peripherals for Create's blocks, with the methods of Create's own ComputerCraft peripherals: Creative Motor, Rotation Speed Controller, Speedometer, Stressometer, Sequenced Gearshift, Sticker, Display Link, Nixie Tube
  • Trains: Train Station (schedules, assembly, the train at the station), Train Signal, Train Observer
  • Logistics: Packager, Re-Packager, Frogport, Postbox, Redstone Requester, Stock Ticker, Table Cloth
  • Computing Ages blocks: Relay, Jacquard Card Reader, the five precision machines (running, progress, item, recipe, problem, tier) and the Crystal Puller
  • Create Simulated: Directional and Modulating Linked Receivers, Docking Connector, Linked Typewriter, Nameplate
  • Create Aeronautics: Steam Vent, Propeller Bearing (thrust, airflow)
  • Create Big Cannons: the Cannon Mount and the Fixed Cannon Mount are peripherals. A program assembles and disassembles the cannon, aims it (a Cannon Mount turns at the speed of its shafts, so it still needs rotation), fires a big cannon and sets an autocannon's fire rate
  • vehicle.id(), vehicle.rotation() (pitch, yaw, roll) and vehicle.spin() (degrees per second around the vehicle's axes)
  • fs.read(path, start, count) reads a big file in parts
  • A Display Link on a computer or a data cable shows what a program wrote with the display_link peripheral
  • Applied Energistics 2: its Cable Facades go on Data Cables too (right-click a side with a facade, break the facade to take it back). The cable still connects through them
  • JEI shows the UV lamp a precision recipe needs
  • The editor says when a save is refused (no disk, another disk, too far, too many requests) instead of claiming it saved

Bugfixes

  • vehicle.velocity() and vehicle.speed() were 20 times too big: they are now in blocks per second
  • vehicle.on_vehicle() is now true on a vehicle that has no name yet
  • A program can no longer freeze the server: huge gfx circles, lines, rectangles and triangles, tonumber on long texts, string.find and string.split on long texts, string.rep of an empty text, upper and lower on some accented letters, table.sort and table.contains on long texts, appending to big files and fs.size("/") all take a bounded time
  • Each computer gets a share of real time per tick, preparing its screen for the players included: a program that goes past it only slows itself down, and a screen nobody looks at is not prepared at all. When many computers are busy they share the server's time, and idle ones take nothing from them
  • Memory held by kept pairs iterators and by tables waiting in the event queue now counts in os.memory(), and so do the holes of a list (t[i] = nil below #t, 1 cell each)
  • pcall no longer lets a program that runs out of memory again and again keep more than its computer's memory
  • A file written half an emoji at a time no longer takes less room on the disk than it should
  • A string literal longer than 65,536 characters is now a compile error instead of a huge string
  • An error inside a program, or a mod of another version, now stops the program with a message instead of crashing the server
  • A damaged disk file no longer crashes the server at every start, and is no longer written over: the disk shows empty and read-only, and a copy of the file is kept beside it
  • After a crash, two new disks or computers can no longer get the same id (and share their files)
  • Saving in the editor after the disk was swapped no longer writes onto the other disk
  • edit on a program with thousands of names no longer disconnects the player
  • The editor's search of every file no longer stays on "Searching" when the server dropped a query typed too fast
  • A wrapped Hot Air Burner or sensor replaced by another block no longer reads or sets that block (a motor's speed): it says it was removed
  • An inventory's push with a slot past its end moves nothing, instead of stopping the program with an internal error
  • The Jacquard Card Reader now gives the first row of its first card after a reset: it stayed at 0 until the second row
  • Monitors are drawn as far as the server's simulation distance, where entities move, and only sent to the players within it; a screen redrawn very fast is sent less often instead of flooding the network
  • Leaving a world no longer leaks the textures of the screens that were visible
  • A newer or older Sable or Create Aeronautics no longer crashes the game: only the features it changed stop working
