What's new
Added nine Ponder tutorials: Power Controller, Circuit Controller, Buzzer, Speaker, Quartz Capacitor, Button Board, High Power Pinout, Magnetic Storage, and Magnetic Tape Reel. They explain setup, connections, programming, and component behavior.
Overhauled the Programmer Card editor: syntax highlighting, line numbers, Ctrl-click navigation to labels, a draggable scrollbar, clearer compilation results, and updated buttons and textures. A client setting lets you display up to four columns of consecutive code.
Added a Programmer Card usage guide to its SHIFT inventory properties, covering power, program selection, editing, compilation, and flashing.
Added the Button Board: place it in front of a Power Controller to send keyboard input to your programs. Sneak-right-click to configure key bindings and RAM addresses; right-click to start typing. Pressing a bound key writes 1, releasing it writes 0. Escape or another right-click ends typing. Buttons visibly animate when pressed.
Added the Controller Data Linker and High Power Pinout: extend a Power Controller beyond its eight built-in pins, up to pin 32. Each pinout provides six outputs powered by a separate supply. Place it beside the linker for automatic linking, or use a cord for remote connections. Its side selector chooses the pin range.
High Power Pinout outputs use percentages of their supply: OUT 500 selects half the supply voltage, and OUT 1000 selects full voltage. Fixed supply loading, connector placement, models, and the displayed six-pin range.
Magnetic Storage now expands Power Controller memory. Connect machines beside the linker or in face-connected chains. Each attached reel provides 1 MiB of persistent storage, and its data follows it when moved, ejected, reinserted, or dyed.
Added an empty-storage selector: Do Nothing detaches an empty machine from the address space. Fill With Zeroes keeps a read-only, zero-filled 1 MiB placeholder attached until a reel is inserted.
Magnetic memory updates while programs keep running. Swapping reels or adding and removing storage no longer automatically restarts the controller. Attaching or detaching memory can move RAM_BASE; existing pointers and stack addresses are not automatically relocated.
Magnetic Tape Reels can now have descriptions. Hold a reel and sneak-right-click to edit its description in a Create-style prompt. Saving an empty field clears it. Descriptions appear beneath the item name and preserve the reel’s identity, contents, and color.
Controllers now use one combined memory address space: internal NVM first, attached magnetic storage next, and RAM last. Standard load/store instructions access both NVM and RAM; EXEC can run code from either. Use RAM_BASE or declared variables to address RAM.
Expanded controller registers and addresses to 64 bits, allowing large magnetic storage networks. Stack entries now preserve full register values.
Improved creative controller debuggers: inspect pin modes and values, browse expanded memory, jump to hexadecimal addresses, and navigate directly to RAM.
Reworked controller power consumption and brownouts. With default settings, Power Controllers require 150 W at SPEED 1 and 600 W at SPEED 10; Circuit Controllers require 50 W and 200 W respectively, before additional load requirements. Higher speeds need voltage closer to nominal. Weak supplies reduce GPIO voltage and can shut controllers down.
Improved power and heat accounting: GPIO power is drawn from the controller’s available power budget, conversion losses produce heat, and electrical feedback cannot sustain a controller for free. Increased Circuit Controller thermal capacity to support normal operation at maximum default speed.
Added memory capacities to controller SHIFT properties, and the current Power Consumption Rate to their goggles information.
Removed fixed Quartz Capacitor voltage ranges. The required ordering is now simply rejuvenation voltage < breakdown voltage. Added support for zero and negative thresholds and corrected its Ponder highlights and explanations.
