Colonist Errands 3.0.0-beta.1 — the first public build on the Talking Colonists 2.0 API

Talking Colonists 2.0.0-beta.1 is out, and this is Colonist Errands rebuilt on its addon API. It needs Talking Colonists 2.0.0-beta.1 or newer and does not load on 1.7.x - if you are still on 1.7.x, stay on Colonist Errands 2.2.0. Everything you can say to a colonist still works the same way; what changed is underneath, and two things that were wrong are fixed.

A colonist who cannot do a thing says so. nikochilv0 reported citizens told to chop wood or go mining standing exactly where they were while the voice answered as though they were on their way. Nothing failed - the model simply never reached for a work tool, because a MineColonies colonist does not chop wood on request; a Forester does, from a Forester's Hut. Citizens now carry a guidance block that says work is a job and not an errand, what their own job is, and which of chopping, mining, farming, fishing, herding and building the colony can do at all - and if the hut is not standing, the honest answer is that it has to be built first. take_job also covers the phrasings people actually use ("go chop some wood", "go mining", "plant a field").

The name on the hut is not the name in the registry. Twenty-six of MineColonies' fifty-two huts are registered under a different name than the sign says: the Forester's Hut is lumberjack, the Cowhand's Hut is cowboy, a Farm is farmer, a Residence is citizen. "forester" written in the work table matched no building in any colony, so citizens were told their colony had no workplace for chopping wood with a Forester's Hut standing in front of them - the same false confidence the bug report was about, shipped inside the fix for it. The aliases now cover every hut that differs, and the suffix strip no longer eats the middle of a word (the Rabbit Hutch came out as "rabbitch" and matched nothing). A checker holds both tables against the installed MineColonies jar so it cannot come back.

On the new API. All 42 tools are registered through the addon API as commands and queries (the model sees them as tc_7_errands_<name>), and Talking Colonists validates every call against the declared parameters before it runs. The sixteen prompt blocks - nicknames, promises, food and supply checks, guard score and gear, the fallen, research, the real building site, beds, the colony map, time of day, Voyager lore - arrive as labelled contributions instead of through a mixin. An errand holds a citizen with an activity lease that the core takes away the moment a player speaks to them, so the player always comes first. Family, shop, crew and mourning chats are pair conversations, and a huddle is a real three-way session with the floor passed round-robin instead of three two-way chats in a row. Ten of the twelve mixins are gone with the work the core now does itself; the two left touch MineColonies only. The rank system, promises, relationships, guard careers, the fallen, every config file and the Voyager integration are unchanged.

Beta. Built and checked against the published Talking Colonists 2.0.0-beta.1 on a headless test server that calls every tool through the API and exercises the lease, the prompt contributor from both threads, memory, a pair chat and a controlled session - and it has been running on my own dev instance for a week.
