What's new

Baskets take over from the themed tables, re-rolls fill up to the number you ask for, and a table can fill any platform you build. 🧺

Everything since 4.0.0 (4.0.1 to 4.0.8 were never published on their own).

HUD

  • The shiny aura readout hides with F1, like the rest of the HUD.

Tables

  • The Diving, Hot and Strange tables are now baskets. The table's screen has a basket slot next to the bread, and a new table starts with the basket it was crafted with. On an Expert table, put in a Water Basket (any picnic basket + heart of the sea), a Fire Basket (+ fire charge) or a Strange Basket (+ eye of ender) and the table behaves exactly like the Diving, Hot or Strange table did, hazards included when it is in the wrong place. Click a new basket onto the slot and the old one comes back to you. A basket never comes out on its own, only swapped for another one. On Basic and Advanced tables the basket is locked (a padlock on the slot): it can't be swapped.
  • Breaking a table keeps its basket inside it: the table item that drops carries the basket, kind included, and what the table was built from, so placing it again brings both back. Bread and a leftover Battle Seeker still spill. Creative-tab tables come with a red basket.
  • A Fire or Water basket away from home only acts when you re-roll, not every second: each re-roll scorches the ground around the table, or flushes it. The Fire basket's heat reaches 6 blocks out, lights many blocks at once and sets every creature in reach on fire for 8 seconds. The flush only happens out of the water, is flowing water around the table (never on it) rather than source blocks, and drains on its own. On dry land the table itself no longer holds water.
  • Expert tables can be placed in water, so a Water Basket can go in afterwards. Basic and Advanced tables still refuse water.

Existing worlds: Diving, Hot and Strange tables already placed turn into an Expert table with the matching Water, Fire or Strange basket in its slot the first time they load, keeping their bread and look. If one already held a basket of another kind, that basket stays and the dimension basket drops beside the table. They can no longer be crafted and are gone from the creative tab; the old blocks themselves will be removed in a later version. Other tables placed before the basket slot get the basket they were crafted with in it.

  • Every special basket keeps its apricorn colour. Water, Fire and Strange baskets, and the two new ones below, are made from a picnic basket of any colour plus the ingredient, and come out the same colour with an emblem on the front: a water drop, a flame, an eye of ender, Cobblemon's alpha mark or a sword. The basket on the table is drawn from the one in the slot, colour and emblem, and gives off a few particles of its kind. Placed on its own, a special basket keeps its emblem and drops back as the same basket.
  • Alpha Basket (any basket + ghast tear, any table). Every Pokémon a re-roll spawns has a 10% chance to be an alpha, in exchange for a smaller batch: only half spawn (rounded up). The screen shows the smaller batch in gold. Change it or turn it off with /picnic config alphaboost. Alphas also show up in the re-roll log and in /picnic stats.
  • Combat Basket (any basket + iron sword, Expert table): the re-roll summons an RCT trainer. It replaces the Battle Seeker, so the table screen is down to two slots, bread and basket.

Existing worlds: Water, Fire and Strange baskets from the first version (one colour each) turn into the coloured basket with that emblem by themselves. A Battle Seeker left in a table shows in its old slot until you take it out; it no longer does anything and no longer turns up in chests.

Re-rolls

  • The "Spawned N fresh" message counts what really appeared. It used the number of spawn results Cobblemon returned, which didn't match the Pokémon that actually showed up; it now counts the new Pokémon around the table, the same ones the re-roll log lists.
  • A re-roll keeps trying until the Pokémon you asked for really appear. It stopped after one or two tries because it counted Cobblemon's spawn results, so a re-roll for 8 or 12 often left 0 to 7. It now counts the Pokémon that landed and keeps drawing spots until it reaches the number or runs out of tries.
  • A re-roll can now keep wild alphas. Next to the shiny, legendary, mythical and Ultra Beast switches there is a fifth one, protectalpha, set per tier like the others: /picnic config reroll protectalpha expert true (operators only) or in Mod Menu → Protection & seating. Off by default, so nothing changes until an operator turns it on.
  • A re-roll no longer takes away a wild Pokémon someone is fighting or catching. The table cleared every wild Pokémon in its radius, including one in the middle of a battle with another player, or one a Poké Ball was already on its way to. Those are now left alone; everything else clears as before.
  • A picnic next to a habitat block now re-rolls the habitat's Pokémon. Cobblemon 1.8 habitat blocks add their own pool to spawns within about 16 blocks of them, but a re-roll scattered its searches over its whole radius and mostly missed that circle. When a habitat's reach overlaps the table's radius, the re-roll now looks for spawns inside it, so its pool (and its current phase) is what comes back: handy for hunting a Pokémon that is rare everywhere else. Habitats that run their own spawner (the "activated" kind) are left out, since they block every other spawner around them.
  • Party move teaching now covers TM, tutor and egg moves. Before, a Pokémon could only pick up level-up moves it already qualified for, and only from a friend's battle four. Now the teacher can pass on any move it has learned (battle four or benched), and the student can take any TM, tutor or egg move in its learnset that it hasn't learned yet. New /picnic config tmteach tm|tutor|egg <true|false> switches (also in the settings screen) pick which kinds can be taught; all three are on by default.
  • A table can fill a platform you built, whatever it is made of. Cobblemon only spawns most wild Pokémon on natural ground — grass, dirt, stone, sand — so a table on a quartz tower or a wooden deck had nothing to work with. Turn on the new platforms switch and a re-roll spawns on any floor. The species are still the ones the biome under you would bring, at the same time of day, light and height; only the "natural ground" rule is lifted, and only for the table's own re-roll. On natural ground nothing changes. It is off by default.
  • Pokémon that fly no longer vanish right after a re-roll. A re-roll on a high platform over the sea could say it spawned 8 Pokémon while none were in sight: fliers took off over the water and kept going. For 30 seconds after a re-roll, a flier that leaves the table's re-roll radius now turns back toward the table, at your height; inside the radius it flies as it likes. Change the time with the new flierleash setting, or set it to 0 to let them roam at once.

Inventory

  • The picnic table's inventory icon is bigger. It was sized for the whole 3×3 footprint, empty corners included, so the table sat small inside its slot. It is now sized to what is actually drawn and centred on it, filling the slot about as much as a block does across.

Settings

  • The settings screen sets the re-roll radius. Mod Menu → Cobblemon Picnic → Tiers now has a radius for each table, next to its spawn cap and fuel cost, so you no longer need a command to widen or shrink the area a re-roll clears and fills.
  • Action distance tops out at 512 blocks everywhere: the command already refused more, now the settings screen and a hand-edited config file are held to the same limit.
  • No more Diving, Hot and Strange settings. Spawn cap, fuel cost and radius are set for Basic, Advanced and Expert only; tables of the old themed kinds still in a world use the Expert values. Their old entries in config/cobblemon_picnic.json are ignored and dropped on the next save.
  • Baskets have their own page in the settings screen: the Combat basket, the Alpha basket and the dimension hazards, which used to be spread over Battle Seeker, Shiny Aura and General.

Compatibility

  • The game refuses to start with a clear message when Cobblemon is missing or older than 1.8.0. Picnic needs Cobblemon 1.8.0 or newer, but its jar never said so, so a pack without Cobblemon — or with a 1.7.x Cobblemon — started anyway and crashed the first time Picnic touched Cobblemon. Both Fabric and NeoForge now stop at the loader's dependency screen naming Cobblemon instead.

Store

  • The store page's sponsor link records where a sponsorship came from. It tells GitHub Sponsors which mod and which store (Modrinth or CurseForge) the click started on.

Development

  • Every push and pull request now builds both the Fabric and the NeoForge jar, against Cobblemon 1.8.0 and 1.8.2, so a change that breaks either loader is caught before a release.
