What's new

Every road has Pokémon of its own, and the rules got sharper. 🛣️

⚠️ Requires Routes 1.2.119 or newer, and Cobblemon 1.8 for the route Pokémon.

Pokémon that live on the roads

  • Every generated road carries its own wild encounters. Encounter sources, Cobblemon 1.8 habitat blocks set into the paving, are spread along each route and fill in as you explore, and each spot is used once. Within 16 blocks of a source, only its own Pokémon appear.
  • Each source offers its own family at its own level. Every source picks its own species, the same for every player, with a five-level band drawn from a bell curve around level 32, at the evolution stage that band has reached. When that stage is close to evolving, the source also spawns the next one five levels higher, about one in four.
  • Most sources offer what lives there: the biome's own species on land, and the sea's or river's on a water crossing, where the source sits in one of the rocks that mark the lane and its Water types spawn under the surface. A source on a bridge leans toward Flying types, and a route too short for the usual spacing still gets one source halfway along.
  • Now and then something special turns up: an alpha, or an aggressive Pokémon that comes after you on sight, whose first hit starts a battle. Players in creative or spectator mode are left alone, and a caught Pokémon calms down for good.
  • Sources get going right away. A source spawns on every tick until it has its own number of Pokémon out, from 2 to 10, and refills as soon as one is caught or beaten.
  • No Legendaries, Ultra Beasts, Paradox Pokémon, starters or starter families on the roads unless you allow them.
  • Sources blend in: each one looks like the block it replaced.
  • New settings in the Route Pokémon section of the NUZLOCKE tab, each with its own name and tooltip: route encounters on or off, distance between sources, what a source looks like, the fewest and most Pokémon out per source, spawn chance per tick, how far a source holds back ordinary spawns, the typical level and its spread, how many sources are native to their biome, alpha and aggressive chances, and whether Legendaries, Ultra Beasts, Paradox Pokémon and starters are allowed.

Capture zones

  • A catch in the chunk right next to a road counts for that route. Where a chunk touches two roads, the lower route number wins. ⚠️ In worlds you already play, the strip along every road changes zone, so a run in progress may find a route already spent, or an area open again.
  • A raid den catch counts for the zone around the raid crystal, not for the raid dimension, and the zone display and the log show that zone while you are in the raid.

Rules and clauses

  • The duplicates clause counts your starter, gifts, trades and evolutions, and looks at what is in your party and PC right now, so runs in progress are covered. Captures are remembered even while the first-encounter rule is off.

  • Revival Blessing is off by default. Your settings file keeps the value it already has: if you played an earlier version, switch Revival Blessing off under Clauses, and use /nuzlocke config for worlds you have already made.

  • A whiteout sends you back to your respawn point: the last Pokémon Center you used, your bed or respawn anchor, or the world spawn without one. It used to pick the nearest town on the map, visited or not. The option To Nearest City is now called To Respawn Point, and your settings and worlds keep the choice you made.

  • A saved setting that can't be read falls back to its own default. An unreadable Whiteout setting used to mean Game Over.

  • The Escape Rope takes you to the same place as a whiteout, and it always has somewhere to go.

  • The Gym Leader Challenge no longer changes the wild spawns. It still shapes your starter offer.

  • The EXP per KO setting is gone. It never did anything: with Cobblemon 1.8, a Pokémon that levels up mid-battle keeps fighting at the level it started with.

Trainers, gyms and the Elite Four

  • A road trainer compares its team with your strongest Pokémon. With the fair-fight guard on, it challenges you on sight only if its team is at most 5 levels above that Pokémon.
  • The Elite Four has its own switch, apart from the gyms. A world with gyms turned off keeps the Elite Four off.
  • The Elite Four is only marked once its building stands. Without a league pack nothing is marked, and the log says so once. The waypoint sits on the building itself.
  • The league's grounds on the map no longer cover the road beside it.

Commands and the PC

  • /nuzlocke config reload re-reads config/cobblemon_nuzlocke.json with no restart. A world with its own settings keeps them, and the new /nuzlocke config unoverride drops them.
  • /nuzlocke reset brings a player who lost back into survival, with their team, and asks for a Gym Leader Challenge type again right away.
  • Pokémon that died in your run are drawn see-through in the PC: in your boxes, in the party column and on the cursor.

Store page and docs

  • The store page lists what to install (Cobblemon, Routes, Architectury API and Cloth Config, plus Fabric API on Fabric), describes the gyms, the Elite Four and the route Pokémon, and says that level caps come from Radical Cobblemon Trainers.
  • The README describes the released mod.
