Transform Cobblemon into a complete competitive Pokémon battling experience.
Cobblemon Battle Overhaul is a competitive battling expansion for Cobblemon, designed to bring structured PvP battles, customizable battle rules, competitive rankings, matchmaking, tournaments and battle replays into Minecraft.
Whether you enjoy casual battles with friends, carefully constructed competitive formats, or organized tournaments with an entire server competing for the top spot, Battle Overhaul provides the tools to create your own competitive Pokémon environment.
With extensive battle customization, persistent Elo ratings, administrator-controlled rulesets and a fully integrated tournament system, the mod gives server owners and players everything they need to build a dedicated competitive battling community.
PvP Battle System
Challenge other players directly using Cobblemon's familiar battle interaction system.
Battle Overhaul expands the standard multiplayer battle experience with a customizable challenge interface, allowing players to configure their matches before accepting a battle.
Challenge features include:
Counteroffer different battle rules before accepting a challenge.
Configure individual battles without changing your saved presets.
Request rematches after completed battles.
Optional distance restrictions and configurable challenge expiration.
Server-controlled battle permissions and restrictions.
Every battle is validated by the server to ensure that both teams satisfy the selected rules.
Extensive Battle Customization
Create battles that match your preferred competitive environment.
The battle configuration interface provides a wide range of settings, allowing players and administrators to customize almost every aspect of a match.
Available settings include:
Normal, Single, Double and Multi battle formats.
Custom team sizes and maximum team limits.
Level caps and level set.
Team preview.
Legendary, Mythical and Paradox Pokémon restrictions.
Duplicate Pokémon and duplicate held-item restrictions.
Held-item restrictions.
Monotype battles.
Species, item and ability clauses.
Sleep, evasion, OHKO and other competitive clauses.
Custom bans for Pokémon, types, moves, abilities and items.
Server administrators can restrict which settings players are allowed to modify, ensuring that competitive environments remain consistent.
Battle Presets
Save your favourite battle configurations and reuse them whenever you want.
Presets make it easy to switch between different competitive formats without manually configuring every rule for every match.
The mod includes several predefined configurations, such as:
Standard Cobblemon: A familiar battle experience with standard rules.
Competitive Singles: A competitive singles ruleset.
Competitive Doubles: A doubles format with dedicated restrictions.
Legendary Battle: A format designed for battles involving powerful Pokémon.
No Legendary Pokémon: Battles without Legendary or Mythical Pokémon.
Casual Battle: A more relaxed format with smaller teams and level restrictions.
Random Battles: Battles using automatically generated teams.
Players can create, edit, save and remove their own presets.
Server administrators can also create and manage shared server presets, making standardized rulesets available to everyone.
Random Battles
Experience battles without relying on your own Pokémon team.
Random Battles generates teams automatically using the server's configured species pool, level settings and available held items.
Administrators can customize:
Permitted and banned Pokémon.
Legendary Pokémon restrictions.
Mythical Pokémon restrictions.
Paradox Pokémon restrictions.
Duplicate species restrictions.
Available held items.
Team size and level settings.
Random battles also have their own Elo rating pool, allowing players to compete without mixing their random battle performance with their regular competitive ratings.
Competitive Battle Timers
Bring structured competitive time management into Cobblemon.
Battle Overhaul features three independently configurable battle clocks, inspired by the timer system used in Pokémon Champions.
Default timer configuration:
| Timer | Default duration |
|---|---|
| Turn Timer | 45 seconds |
| Player Time | 7 minutes per player |
| Total Battle Time | 20 minutes |
| Team Preview | 90 seconds |
Each timer serves a different purpose:
Turn Timer: Limits how long a player can take to make an individual decision. When it expires, the server submits the default legal action.
Player Time: Tracks each player's remaining decision time across the battle. Running out results in a time loss.
Total Battle Time: Limits the duration of the entire match. Expiration results in a draw.
Team Preview: Limits the time available to select the team order.
Competitive Elo Ranking
Give every battle a meaningful competitive result.
Battle Overhaul includes a persistent Elo ranking system that tracks player performance and adjusts ratings according to match outcomes and opponent ratings.
The ranking system includes:
Global Elo, tracking overall competitive performance.
Separate ratings for Normal, Single, Double and Multi formats.
Independent rating pools for saved battle presets.
A dedicated Random Battles rating.
Persistent ratings that survive server restarts.
Automatic rating updates after completed battles.
Rating-change notifications after matches.
Elo-weighted tournament seeding.
Defeating a highly rated opponent awards more points than defeating a significantly lower-rated opponent. Losing to a lower-rated opponent can result in a larger rating decrease.
Battle Information Viewer
Keep track of your competitive progress with the Battle Information Viewer.
This dedicated in-game interface provides access to your ratings, tournament history and competitive leaderboards.
Elo Ratings
View your Global Elo.
View individual battle format ratings.
View ratings for saved preset formats.
Tournament History
Review completed tournaments.
See your final placement.
View your wins, losses, draws and tournament points.
Browse previous tournament results.
Tournament System
Create organized Pokémon tournaments directly inside Minecraft.
Battle Overhaul includes a dedicated Tournament Creator for server administrators, alongside a tournament interface that allows players to browse events, register and follow tournament progress.
Supported tournament structures include:
Single Elimination: One loss eliminates an entrant.
Double Elimination: Entrants must lose twice before elimination.
Round Robin: Every entrant competes against every other entrant.
Swiss: Entrants are paired across multiple rounds according to their standings.
Tournament Management
Administrators have access to a dedicated management interface for existing tournaments.
They can:
Create tournaments before registration begins.
Browse existing tournaments.
Preview tournament brackets.
Start tournaments before reaching their maximum entrant count.
Open or close registrations.
Manage tournament settings.
Cancel or delete tournaments.
Manage player seeding.
Record match results and administrative draws.
Tournament progress is persistent, allowing ongoing events to survive server restarts.
Registered teams are saved for tournament participation, with team locking preventing players from changing their registered team during an active event.
Best-of series track individual game results without advancing a player until the required series score is reached.
Tournament matches also contribute to competitive Elo, with ratings awarded when the relevant match or series has been decided.
Tournament pool sizing organizes entrants into groups of 1v1 duels for pool progression. It does not create simultaneous battles with three or more independent sides.
Battle Replays
Relive completed battles and analyze how they unfolded.
Battle Overhaul automatically records eligible player battles and tournament matches, creating detailed Showdown-style battle replays.
The replay viewer allows players to:
Browse recently completed matches.
View the participants and battle format.
See the winner and match duration.
Follow the battle turn by turn.
Move between individual turns.
Use mouse-wheel navigation.
Play and pause automatic replay playback.
Review publicly revealed Pokémon and battle events.
Replay logs include readable player and Pokémon names rather than internal protocol identifiers.
Private battle information, unrevealed opponent teams and internal protocol messages are excluded from public replay data.
The system retains the 100 most recent recorded battles.
Battle Reconnection Support
Unexpected disconnects should not automatically ruin a competitive match.
Battle Overhaul includes a server-side battle recovery system that preserves the active battle when a participant disconnects.
During the configured reconnection period:
The battle is suspended.
The current turn and battle state are preserved.
Pending actions are retained.
The disconnected player can reconnect and resume the existing battle.
Outstanding battle choices are restored where applicable.
Administrators can configure the reconnection grace period.
If the player fails to return before the deadline, the disconnected participant forfeits. If both participants remain offline when the deadline is processed, the match ends in a draw.
Automatic Pokémon Healing
Keep battles accessible without forcing players to spend time restoring their teams after every match.
Battle Overhaul automatically heals participating Pokémon before and after supported battles.
This allows players to move between matches without having to manually restore their Pokémon after every battle.
The system also handles players who disconnect before their post-battle healing can be completed.
Server Administration and Configuration
Battle Overhaul is designed for dedicated multiplayer servers, with server-side configuration and authoritative validation.
Administrators can control:
Whether custom challenges are enabled.
Which battle formats are available.
Default battle rules.
Maximum team sizes.
Allowed and banned Pokémon.
Banned moves, abilities and items.
Available random battle items.
Default and maximum timer settings.
