Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
Mana Zones
- Mana Zone is a real place now. It lays a 24-block square of glowing rune tiles on the ground where you open it. The tiles follow the terrain and have rolling waves of light, a burning rim, corner pillars and rising mana.
- The blessing (stronger, cheaper spells and faster mana) only works while you stand inside, and it blesses allies inside too.
- Spell burnout: cast the same quick spell (2s cooldown or less) five times in a row and it burns out for 8 seconds. Switching spells or waiting 3 seconds resets the count.
- Natural health regen from food is a little slower (75% of vanilla). Healing from spells, potions and items is unchanged.
Signature Mana Zones. Seven magics open their own zone, which stays where you cast it and still gives the normal blessing:
- Dark, Black Moon: a dome of swirling darkness under an eclipsed black moon. Any shot that touches it dissolves.
- Flame, Calidus Brachium: a sea of magic fire inside a wall of flame, and you become living fire. Flame spells hit 50% harder and flame bolts are nearly twice the size.
- Shadow, Dark Prison Hunting Ground: a prison of shadow bars full of blinking eyes. Foes are blinded and slowed, lose track of you, and their shots miss. You move faster and see perfectly.
- Water, Ludic Sanctuary: a huge pool in wave patterns that you can walk on or dive into.
- Woodblock-print waves swallow incoming shots.
- Water spouts burst up under foes.
- Anyone else who wades in sinks and runs out of air.
- Wind, Never-Never Land: ribbons of green wind, leaves and wind spirals.
- You get a crown of wind lances and wings of wind.
- Allies inside get stronger and faster.
- Foes’ spells cost 80% more and their mana barely regenerates.
- Your bolts home in on foes.
- Time, Chrono Dominion: a giant clock face with gears frozen in the air. For 8 seconds every foe and shot inside is frozen in time, and players caught in it can’t cast.
- Paint, Beautiful Paint Dreams: dozens of pastel splatters with hopping droplets, paint bubbles and rainbow brush strokes. Each colour has its own effect.
Time Magic’s Chrono Stasis Grigora is replaced by Suspended Moment: for 10 seconds every shot near you hangs frozen in the air, then vanishes.
New Magic: Paint
Six pastel paints, each with an effect on foes and on allies. All paint leaves puddles that keep working when stepped in.
| Paint | On enemies | On allies |
|---|---|---|
| Crimson | Burns | Strength |
| Azure | Chills and slows | Shield |
| Lemon | Shocks | Speed |
| Mint | Poisons | Heals |
| Bubblegum | Bounces into the air | High jumps, no fall damage |
| Lilac | Weakens, seals magic, drains mana | Refills mana |
Spells:
- Paint Splash
- Rainbow Glide
- Canvas Shield
- Painted Beasts (a lion, wolf, eagle and sky-whale)
- Splatter Bomb
- Still Life (traps the foe in a gilded picture frame)
- Chromatic Cyclone
- Masterpiece: Living Mural: a giant brush paints a dragon in the sky, and it tears free and dives onto your target.
New Magic: Dream
- Dream Bubble: homing bubbles that leave foes dizzy and drowsy.
- Sleepwalk: a floating glide on pink cloud.
- Lullaby Cradle: a ring of dream cloud. Shots sink into it and allies inside heal.
- Nightmare: a needle-toothed shadow clings to its victim and keeps lunging. Players get a jumpscare, and monsters run away.
- Sandman’s Slumber: puts foes to sleep, then wakes them with a jolt.
- Dream Eater: a starry baku takes three bites, feeding you health and mana.
- Toy Box Barrage: a rain of giant teddy bears, rubber ducks, blocks, sweets, toy soldiers and teapots.
- Dream Reality (final spell): you and your foe wake inside your dream, a frilled bed floating in an endless pink sky. Your Dream Magic hits 80% harder and giant toys crash down on your foe. Nobody dies; the loser just wakes up beaten after 30 seconds.
Visual Pass
- Paint Dreams splatters are no longer cut off at their edges.
- Dream Reality is far wilder. About 120 giant, fully textured things fill the sky, each orbiting, tumbling, looping or bobbing:
- cake, doughnuts and ice cream
- a book flapping its pages and a piano that plays itself
- a sky whale, a ringed planet and a blinking giant eyeball
- a melting pocket watch and a staircase to nowhere
- a floating island with a waterfall, and more
- Calidus Brachium’s fire form is rebuilt as 3D armour-style flame: a molten body, a wild flame mane, fire claws, and a flame mask with slanted white eyes and a jagged grin.
World Update
Gameplay changes
- Demon Unity now fuses with your armour, so every set makes a different demon:
- The helmet becomes a horned crown with a burning brow gem.
- The chestplate becomes a ribbed breastplate with a glowing devil heart, spiked shoulder plates and clawed bracers.
- The leggings grow spiked knee plates.
- The boots become taloned sabatons.
- Every set, modded or vanilla, has its own metal and style, and mixed sets mix.
- Canvas Shield is solid now, and the easel’s legs stand behind the canvas.
- The Dream Reality sky is pink all the way round, with no horizon.
- Painted Beasts turns every one of your paint splatters within 28 blocks into another beast, up to 24.
- Every magic is equally likely when your grimoire awakens. Anti-Magic stays rare (1 in 40).
- Structures are much closer together. Cities, kingdoms, hideouts, outposts, shrines, dungeons and lairs now show up often.
Magic Knight Headquarters
- A grand hall with a clock tower stands in the middle of the Clover capital.
- Inside are six mission boards, all nine squad banners, chandeliers, and a clerk who tells you your squad’s rank.
- Squad Star Board: a giant board ranking every squad by its stars.
- Your missions earn your squad 1–3 stars, depending on the mission’s level.
- NPC squads do missions too. Every few minutes a squad earns stars, and it’s announced in chat.
- The Black Bulls sometimes lose stars for wrecking things.
The Heart Kingdom
- Now a sanctuary inside a huge mana forest. It has:
- giant trees hung with glowing mana fruit
- mana springs and amethyst outcrops
- rings of standing stones
- a glowing stream circling it all
- Spirit Guardians watch over five glades, each with a treasure cache.
- The Forest Elder gives a chain of quests. Each one permanently raises your max mana and pays in new loot:
- Cull beasts (+20 max mana).
- Bring Mana Crystals (+25).
- Defeat Dark Disciples (+30).
- Defeat a Dark Triad champion (+40).
- After the chain, there’s a daily patrol quest.
- The Spirit Keeper takes one offering each day and pays you in Spirit Tears.
The Spade Kingdom
- A huge fortress, with a great tower 56 blocks tall, ringed by a dark village. The village has spiked roofs, gallows, wells, soul lanterns and a spiked wall.
- Dark Disciples patrol everywhere. Each is bound to a devil and unleashes Devil Union when hurt.
- One of the Dark Triad (Vanica, Zenon or Dante) holds the throne hall.
- Four research rooms. Each has:
- a summoning circle on the floor
- blood spattered across the floor and walls
- bookshelves, cages, cauldrons and chains
- a Demon Chest full of demon seals and demon artifacts
New Items
- Mana Blossom: restores 30% mana.
- Spirit Tear: permanently +15 max mana, up to +150.
- Heartwood Charm: +30% mana regen in your off hand; use it for a burst of healing.
- Spirit Thorn: a living blade that roots foes and gives you mana.
- Devil’s Eye: makes every foe within 40 blocks glow.
- Cursed Horn: Strength III, Speed II and Resistance, at the cost of 3 hearts.
- Forbidden Research Notes: +120 merit.
- Ritual Dagger: heals you as you hit and makes foes bleed.
New Landmarks
- Witch Cottage (small): a crooked hut with a bent witch-hat roof, a pumpkin garden and a hedge witch.
- Mana Crystal Grove (small): giant crystals round a glowing spring, guarded by mana wraiths.
- Fallen Demon (huge): a giant devil skeleton in a scorched crater. Walk under its ribs and face its demon cult for a Demon Chest.
- Sky Ruins (huge): a floating island with a ruined quartz temple, reached by a spiral of floating stepping stones.
