ChunkXP
Every player lives inside a zone of chunks around their spawn. Try to leave it and you are pushed back, as if against an invisible wall. The zone grows as you level up: gain experience, unlock land.
Server-side. Players do not need to install anything.
How it works
- The zone is a square of chunks. By default the radius equals your record XP level: level 0 is your spawn chunk alone (16x16 blocks), level 10 is 21x21 chunks.
- It never shrinks. Losing levels loses nothing: you must beat your record to unlock a new chunk.
- One zone per dimension, fixed at your first visit (Overworld: where you spawned, Nether: where you arrived, End: the exit portal so it is always reachable).
- Boats, horses and minecarts are pushed back too, with the rider on board.
- A message in the action bar tells you when your zone grows.
- A light particle veil shows the wall, only when you are within 10 blocks of it, and only to you.
- If a player has to be brought back from far away, they are placed on safe ground: never inside a block, in the air or in lava.
Teams
Teams are the vanilla scoreboard teams (/team).
- Each team gets its own spawn, drawn at random near the world spawn and away from other teams.
- Joining a team teleports you to the team spawn, and you respawn there.
- The team zone follows the highest level reached by any member, and never shrinks.
- Optional shared zone: chunks unlocked by one team are unlocked for all teams, so teams that meet can walk through each other's land. One command turns it off.
Moderation (operators)
Everything is under /zone and can be changed live:
- /zone rules: the growth rule (base, first level, levels per step, chunks per step).
- /zone cap global | player | team: maximum radius (priority: team, then player, then global; default 30).
- /zone team spawn | spawnradius | record | forget, /zone shared.
- /zone restrict creative | spectator, /zone bypass, /zone enabled (pause), /zone particles.
- /zone player <player> record | center.
- /zone settings shows every setting with its command.
Everyone can use /zone info (their zone, the next unlock) and /zone help.
Good to know
- Requires Fabric API, Fabric Loader 0.19.5+, Minecraft 26.3 and Java 25.
- Messages follow each player's game language (English and French included).
- Tested with automated client and dedicated-server tests using simulated players. It has not yet been tried with many real players on a live server: reports are welcome on the issue tracker.
