Chunk Challenge

This Mod introduces a "Chunk Cap" to enable player-created, Chunk-restricted challenge runs of Minecraft. Players are restricted to playing on a limited number of chunks, with the Chunk Cap scaling with player level.

Guide below for setting up your own Chunk Challenge!

This mod introduces a simple overlay which displays a numerical "Chunk Cap" to enable chunk-restricted, player-created challenge runs of Minecraft. Inspired by Runescape youtuber Settled's "Tileman" series, this mod allows players to slowly gain access to more "chunks" of their minecraft world with each level they earn. When paired with mods like Xaeros' minimap and Xaeros' Open Parties and Claims, players can claim chunks up to their max cap, allowing them to interact and play as normal on those chunks, while gaining XP to further unlock new chunks.

If you're looking for a new, challenging way to play minecraft that will push you to use every resource at your disposal, and think about transportation/exploration in a new way, give the Chunk Challenge a shot!

Technical notes:

  • this mod, on it's own, has absolutely no mechanical impact on player behavior - it simply shows a number on screen based on the player's current level. If you want to actually protect unclaimed chunks, I highly recommend using this with mods like Xaeros' minimap and Xaeros' Open Parties and Claims to facilitate "chunk protection." Modpack coming soon!
  • The chunk cap is calculated by multiplying the total XP required to reach a level by 5%, rounded up. For example, to reach level 7, a player needs 91 total XP. Therefore the player's chunk cap at level 7 is 5% of 91, rounded up - 5 chunks.
    • Currently, the chunk cap scales with total XP until level 100, after which you receive a flat 37 chunks per level
    • For a full table of how many chunks you gain per level, see this published google sheet here
