Description
Chest Rename
Give your chests a name and see it at a glance.
Chest Rename is a lightweight, client-side Fabric mod that lets you label your chests and shows those labels right on your screen. No more opening five chests to find where you stored your redstone.
Features
- Rename any chest. Open a chest and click the small pencil button next to the title to give it a custom name.
- Name overlay. Point your crosshair at a named chest, and its name appears just below the crosshair, without opening it.
- Double chest support. Both halves of a double chest share one name, so you only need to name it once.
- Trapped chests supported. Works with regular and trapped chests.
- Saved per world and server. Names are remembered separately for each world, server, and dimension, so labels never mix up between your save files.
- Long names handled. Names that are too long for the chest title are trimmed automatically with an ellipsis.
- Clear a name anytime. Save an empty name to remove the label.
How to Use
- Look at a chest and open it.
- Click the pencil button in the top-left corner of the chest screen.
- Type a name and confirm.
- Next time you look at that chest, its name shows up under your crosshair.
Requirements
- Minecraft: 26.3
- Mod loader: Fabric only (Forge and NeoForge are not supported)
- Fabric API
- Fabric Language Kotlin
Compatibility
- Fabric only. This mod is built exclusively for Fabric on Minecraft 26.3.
- Client-side only. Install it on your client; nothing is needed on the server, so it works on vanilla and modded servers alike.
- Names are stored locally in
config/chest-rename.properties, so they are never shared with other players.
FAQ
Do other players see my chest names?
No. Names are saved only on your own client.
Can I use it on a multiplayer server?
Yes. Since it is client-side, it works on servers without any server-side install.
Where are the names stored?
In config/chest-rename.properties. You can back it up or edit it manually if you want.
Does it work with other chest types (barrels, shulker boxes)?
Currently, only chests and trapped chests are supported.
