Chaos Crew

A multiplayer or solo horror & prank mod: gadgets for messing with friends, 30+ new creatures, haunted structures, natural disasters, sea monsters, and a world that whispers back.

Chaos Crew

A mod for messing with your friends — and then getting haunted together.

What is Chaos Crew?

Chaos Crew is a multiplayer prank and horror mod for Fabric. It adds 27 items, 7 blocks, 30 creatures, 4 structures, and dozens of hidden events.

It started as a bag of prank items for a friends' server and grew into a full horror experience. Half of it is you trolling your friends. The other half is the world trolling all of you. You'll spend the day swapping inventories, planting fake dirt, and sending a netherite baby zombie after your best friend. Then night falls, a cow turns its glowing white eyes toward you, and someone you don't know joins the game.

The pranks are temporary and (mostly) harmless. The horror is not.

Why download it?

  • It makes playing with friends unpredictable. Every item is built to be used on someone, so your server turns into a running prank war
  • It's actually scary. Things happen that only you see, so you can never be sure what's real. Your friends will swear they didn't see Null
  • There's always something happening. Disasters, Blood Nights, sea monsters, haunted structures and random events mean no two sessions play the same
  • It works with your voice. With Simple Voice Chat installed, monsters hear you talk, and the caves play your own voice back at you
  • It's easy to set up. Drop it in your mods folder alongside Fabric API. There's nothing to configure, and every texture is built in

What happens when you play?

Nothing announces itself at first. The world just slowly starts to feel wrong:

  1. Day one feels normal. Then a torch you placed is gone, a door opens behind you, or a creeper freezes the moment you look at it
  2. The first night is longer than it should be. Animals near you may become possessed and hunt you until dawn. In caves you hear footsteps and whispers that nobody else hears
  3. Null starts watching. A tall, faceless figure stands silently in the distance. Only you see "Null joined the game." When you walk toward it, it's gone
  4. The world fights back. Earthquakes split the ground, tornadoes rip up forests, meteors rain fire, and the ocean is full of things far bigger than your boat
  5. Then the moon goes wrong. On a Blood Night, mobs break through walls, monsters get faster, and you can't sleep it away

What should you do in it?

  • Prank your friends. Craft the prank items and blocks below. Swap places with people, rig a "Storage Barrel," or hand someone a Diamond that turns to gravel in a minute
  • Survive the night together. Build bright and build solid. Carry torches, since jumpscares only happen in the dark. A tamed cat will hiss at possessed animals and at Null before you can see them
  • Explore the haunted places. Find Haunted Manors, Graveyards and Null Shrines for cursed loot, including the Null Compass that tracks what's hunting you
  • Learn the monsters' rules. Don't look away from the Follower. Don't talk near the Listener. Don't follow the light in a cave. Don't touch the Choir's offering
  • Stay out of deep water, or at least out of boats
  • Compare notes with your friends. Half the fun is working out what was real

Prank Items

Every "use on a friend" item works two ways: right-click them directly, or look at them from up to ~48 blocks away and right-click the air. If you aren't aiming at anyone, a random friend gets it. If you're alone, it hits you.

  • Cursed Pickaxe: diamond-tier pick. Mining ore has a 25% chance to hex a random friend (slowed, shrunk, launched, or spooked)
  • Betrayal Totem: a loud 5-second warning, then your inventory swaps with a random friend's
  • Chaos Coin: flip it. 50/50: curse yourself or bless a friend
  • Prank Dye: your friend glows and their leather armor turns random colors
  • Swap Wand: trade places with a friend (or with someone random)
  • Diamond: looks exactly like a diamond. Crumbles to gravel after ~60 seconds
  • Gravity Charm: levitate a friend, then let them float back down
  • Copycat Charm: for 60 seconds, a friend's chat gets parroted back at them
  • Reverse Bow: the arrow spawns in front of you and flies back at your face. Give it as a gift
  • Friendship Compass: always points to whichever friend is furthest away
  • Treasure Ping Map: buries a real loot chest 300–800 blocks away and tells everyone where
  • Advancement Air Horn: floods chat with fake advancements about a friend
  • Nickname Curse Scroll: gives a friend an embarrassing name prefix for an hour
  • Haunt Charm: 2 minutes of whispers and creepy sounds only your victim can hear
  • Horn of 67: blow it at a friend and every crab in earshot comes for them
  • Lil Menace (Contract): pick a target and release a baby zombie in full Protection IV netherite, holding a Sharpness V wooden sword, with permanent Speed II. He chases only them, and leaves after one hit or 5 minutes
  • Null's Eye: sends Null to stalk whoever you aim at

Tools & Weapons

  • Extendable Sword: a piston-powered blade with extra reach
  • Grappling Hook: flings you toward wherever you're looking
  • Crab Claw: dropped by crabs. Pinch a friend for huge knockback and Slowness
  • Whip: for, uh, motivating villagers (see Village Life)

Blocks

Most of these look exactly like normal blocks. That's the point.

Block Looks like What it does Recipe
Cursed Radio Jukebox Place it somewhere dark. With Simple Voice Chat, it sometimes plays back things your friends actually said earlier, from the radio's position. Without voice chat, it just crackles Note Block + Amethyst Shard + Bone
Circuit Block Glowing green circuit board Glitch block. Parts of the world flicker into it, then back. Creative only, as decoration None
Silent Alarm Stone Whispers horrors (sounds and messages) that only the player standing on it can hear Stone + Redstone + Amethyst Shard
Definitely Just Dirt Dirt It's TNT. Classic TNT + Dirt
Duplicator 3000 Note Block "Duplicates" any item you put in. You get paper back 8 Iron Ingots around an Emerald
Storage Barrel Barrel Open it: 40% chance of real loot, 60% chance of angry baby zombies Chest + Rotten Flesh + Bone
Party Beacon Glowstone Glows, sparkles, and announces its coordinates to everyone as a rally point Glowstone + Amethyst Shard + Torch

All recipes are shapeless except the Duplicator 3000.

Crops: Cotton (plant Cotton Seeds, harvest Cotton, craft it into string) and the Nose Sprout (plant a Villager Nose. It grows. Don't ask).

The Horror

Null

A too-tall, gaunt figure with white pinprick eyes appears 20–30 blocks away, silently watching you. It never attacks. Get close and it's gone. Only you see "Null joined the game". It shows up on its own, rarely. You can't kill it.

Herobrine

He was never removed, because he was never added. Until now. He stands on the surface, staring. Approach him and he's gone.

The Roster: 13 monsters with their own rules

  • The Listener: hunts the sound of your voice-chat mic
  • The Crawler: walks on the ceiling
  • The Smiler: a villager that isn't
  • The Long Man: 8 blocks tall, standing on the treeline
  • The Follower: only moves when you aren't looking
  • The Angler: the light around the corner is a lure, and it's attached to something
  • The Marionette: doesn't walk. It advances one jerk at a time
  • Crawling Hands: one is nothing. There is never one
  • The Skinwalker: it's wearing a sheep, and it's not very good at being one
  • The Doppelgänger: walks to where you're going and holds exactly what you hold
  • The Choir: six robed figures around a fire nobody lit, waiting for you to touch the offering
  • The Gravekeeper: if he kills you, he buries your loot in a marked grave
  • The Stitched: the livestock that went missing, back together and assembled wrong

More things in the dark

  • The Mist: a black, smiling fog that drifts through walls toward you at night
  • Ghosts haunt the manor halls
  • Mirror Statue: a stone statue of you, walking your exact path from five minutes ago
  • Possessed Animals: at night, a cow or sheep or pig can turn. Dark texture, glowing white eyes, and it hunts you until dawn
  • Ore Sprites: sometimes the ore you're mining grows legs and runs
  • Creepers freeze when you look at them and sprint when you blink
  • Skeletons fire oversized flaming arrows that explode on impact
  • Jumpscares: linger in the dark long enough and something happens. Carry torches
  • Dread: a hidden fear meter. Darkness and nearby monsters raise it, daylight lowers it, and when it's high your senses start lying to you

Blood Night

Rarely, at dusk: "The moon is wrong tonight." A red sky bar and haze, faster monsters, mobs that break through your walls, guaranteed possessions, and you can't sleep through it.

Nightmares

Sleeping has a 30% chance you wake up wrong: somewhere else, exhausted, buried alive, or with Null standing at the foot of your bed.

The Broken Script tribute

Original-code recreations of the classic creepypasta tricks: fake players who join, chat, and leave; fake server errors in chat; torches that vanish; signs you didn't place; bedrock floating in the sky; disc 11 playing from nowhere; and, very rarely, a "disconnect" that looks completely real.

Simple Voice Chat Integration (optional)

  • Monsters hear you. Talking aggros hostile mobs within 20 blocks
  • Null hears you. Speak while it watches and it gets closer
  • The caves answer. Your own recorded voice plays back from somewhere in the dark
  • Cursed Radio replays things your friends said earlier, from wherever it's placed

Voice clips are only ever held in server memory. They're never written to disk or sent anywhere.

The Water Is Not Safe

  • Piranhas in rivers: schools of 4–6, fast and relentless
  • Killer Whales in oceans: attack swimmers and boats
  • Megalodon in deep oceans: 8× scale, 150 HP, bites boats out from under you and drags you down
  • Kraken in deep oceans: building-sized, 200 HP. Tentacles, ink clouds, and it crushes boats in one hit

Natural Disasters

About every 25 minutes, somewhere on the server:

  • Earthquake: screen shake, plus permanent fissures up to 60 blocks long and 26 deep
  • Tornado: a 28-block funnel that rips up blocks and carries players into the sky
  • Lightning Storm: 30 seconds of real lightning around one unlucky player
  • Meteor Shower: 30–45 burning meteors that leave fire and magma behind

New Structures (new chunks only)

  • Haunted Graveyard: twenty graves, dead trees, and a mausoleum with loot over a spawner
  • Haunted Manor: four stories with a library, kitchen, bedrooms, attic, and corner tower, plus cursed loot
  • Null Shrine: a netherrack altar with a chest buried underneath. Dig at your own risk
  • Skull Cove: on coasts and beaches
  • Whispering Stone in caves and Cursed Dirt (TNT) near the surface

Structure chests can contain Torn Pages, Null's Eyes, Haunt Charms, and the rare Null Compass, which points at the nearest Null or possessed animal.

Critters & Silliness

  • Crabs grab your head and yell 67 until you jump in water
  • Kangaroos hop around offering Aussie wisdom
  • Pigeons are definitely just normal birds that follow you around
  • Long-Legged Skeleton: bone meal a skeleton and its legs grow, with no cap. Ride it
  • Mob tricks: feed the right thing to the right mob. String on a spider makes a wall-climbing mount. Golden apple on a pig makes a war pig. Bone meal on a sheep makes a disco sheep. Gunpowder on a creeper makes it yours (and bigger every time)
  • Milk Cows: sometimes a cow stands up and fires milk at you
  • Evolved Crafting Table: sometimes your crafting table grows saw arms and a missile cannon
  • Tree Ambush: chop one log and the forest pulls swords
  • Haunted house tricks: doors open themselves, beds crawl, cobblestone heals, and sometimes it rains fish
  • Village Life: Amae the hobbit, goth villagers (black dye), plantable villager noses (shears), staring villagers, and the occasional FBI raid. Pay an emerald
  • The IRS takes a 30% cut of diamonds you mine
  • Edible axes, water-bucket totems, and death messages that roast you
  • Zombies don't die. They delegate. Kill one and three armored babies take its place
  • Cotton: a new crop that turns into string

For server admins

Everything can be triggered on demand with /chaoscrew (op level 2). Some examples: /chaoscrew null, /chaoscrew mob <name>, /chaoscrew haunted <name>, /chaoscrew bloodnight, /disaster <earthquake|tornado|lightning|meteor>, and the everything-at-once /chaoscrew convergence.

Find structures with /locate structure chaoscrew:haunted_manor.

Creative-mode players are never targeted.

Please note

  • Install it on both the server and every client
  • Earthquake fissures, tornado damage, and meteor scars are permanent. Back up your world
  • Chaos Crew turns off vanilla death messages (the showDeathMessages gamerule), since it replaces them with its own
  • Made for small friend groups. It's built to be mean
