Celestial Survey

A real-astrophysics survey mod for NeoForge 1.21.1. Point instruments at the sky, certify what you find, cross an event horizon, find deeper mysteries that are waiting to unfold. Built for Ascension of Ages 1st, general release 2nd.

## You may

- **Include the unmodified jar in modpacks.** Private or public, on any platform (CurseForge, Modrinth, FTB App, Prism, MultiMC, custom server packs, wherever). No need to ask.
- **Build compatibility patches.** Mods that make Celestial Survey work with other existing mods (JEI / EMI integration, Mekanism gas hooks, etc.) are fine without prior approval. These are integrations, not extensions.
- **Make resource packs.** Custom textures, sounds, models, or translations are fine for personal or public use. Resource packs override assets at runtime, they don't redistribute mine.
- **Decompile for integration work.** You can decompile the jar to figure out how to interface with it. You may not redistribute the decompiled source.
- **Modify the mod locally for personal use.** Testing, experimenting, or tweaking it for your own private game or server is fine. Don't redistribute the modified version.

## You may not

- **Build add-on mods without my approval.** Add-ons that extend Celestial Survey with new content (new instruments, anomalies, dimensions, survey types, original block / item content riding on top of mine, etc.) require my explicit written approval before development. Reach out first. I'm generally open to add-ons, I just want a heads-up before you start. A single approval covers both creation and any later monetization of that add-on.
- **Make money off this mod directly.** No selling it, no paywalls, no "pay to download" schemes, no Patreon-exclusive releases, no pay-to-access servers built around it. See Monetization below for what is allowed.
- **Redistribute the source code.** The source is closed.
- **Redistribute modified versions of the jar.**
- **Reupload the jar to other download sites or mirrors.** CurseForge is the only authorized distribution channel for now.
- **Reuse the creative content.** Textures, models, sounds, lore text, item names, mechanic designs, world structures, and other original creative work stay mine. Don't copy them into other mods or projects.
- **Claim authorship** of any part of the mod.

## Monetization

This mod is free and stays free. The default is that no money changes hands over Celestial Survey or anything that depends on it. There are two carve-outs:

- **Modpack inclusion is fair game.** If you include Celestial Survey in your modpack, you can earn from the standard CurseForge or Modrinth rewards program on that pack's downloads. That's how the platforms work and I'm not trying to break it.
- **Approved add-ons may be monetized.** If you've gotten written approval for an add-on (see "You may not" above), you can earn from it through the same platform reward programs. Unapproved add-ons are not permitted to exist, monetized or otherwise.

## Trust notes

This mod contains no telemetry, no DRM, no obfuscation, no anti-debug code, and no network calls beyond what NeoForge and Minecraft do natively. If you want to verify any of that, decompile the jar and check. The source being closed is a policy choice, not a hiding place.
