Camcorder HUD 1.0.0
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
Changelog
Notable changes to Camcorder HUD, newest version first.
1.0.0 - 2026-08-04
First release. Minecraft 1.20.1, NeoForge 47.1.106 or newer, client side only.
The handheld camera
- The first person view is now carried rather than fixed to your head
- Sway locked to your walk cycle, in step with your footfalls instead of random jitter
- A bump on every footstep, and a heavier one on landing, scaled by how far you fell
- Leans back as you set off and forward as you stop
- Banks into your turns and away from your sideways movement, up to 20 degrees each
- The view trails slightly behind your mouse and overruns a fast flick before settling
- Crouching steadies the whole rig
- Sprinting no longer stretches your FOV; the camera movement carries the speed instead
- The view bob is stronger than vanilla's, raised from 5 to 7
The lens
- Chromatic aberration: red and blue pull apart towards the corners of the frame
- Strongest in the corners and clean in the middle, so it reads as glass rather than as a filter over the screen
- Measured in screen pixels, so it looks the same at any resolution
- Runs before the tape, so the fringing is filtered and noised along with the picture
Composite video
- A real NTSC composite simulation rather than a colour grade with scanlines drawn on
- Rainbow shimmer on fine detail, colour crawl along hard edges, colour that smears and cannot keep up with the picture
- Two looks: the NES style with strong false colours, or the subtler SNES and Mega Drive style
- Saturation and brightness
- Tape noise added to the signal rather than painted over the frame, so it smears along the scanline like analog grain instead of sitting there as pixel static
The camcorder display
- Blinking record dot and REC, top left
- Battery bars, tape counter and SP tape speed, top right
- Date over the time, bottom left, in the corner Sony and Panasonic used
- The battery slowly drains across a session
- Clock reads your real time, or in-game time if you prefer
- Burned into the picture rather than drawn over it, so it picks up the filtering and the noise; your hotbar, inventory and chat stay sharp
- Ships with VCR OSD Mono; the settings screen also cycles Minecraft's default, uniform and alt, and the config accepts any font from a resource pack
Settings
- An ordinary Minecraft settings screen under Mods, Camcorder HUD, Config
- Every slider updates the world live behind the menu while you drag it
- Each of the four parts has its own on/off switch, and every effect has its own slider
- Reset to Defaults button
- Also editable by hand in
config/camcorderhud-client.toml
Notes
- Not for sensitive individuals. Constant camera movement and constant filtering, which can cause motion sickness, dizziness, nausea or eye strain. A warning screen appears once per launch and can be switched off, and every effect can be turned down or off on its own.
- Minecraft 1.20.1 only. NeoForge reset its versioning and renamed its packages at 1.20.2, so this build cannot load on 1.20.2 or later.
- Client side only. Works on any server including vanilla ones, touches nothing but rendering, and changes nothing another player can see.
- Not tested alongside other camera or shader mods. Anything else that takes over the first person camera or the post processing chain will probably conflict.
