Description

This mod is currently being completely re-written and re-thought. If you have any suggestions, please join the MMD server linked below! Progress can be followed at the GitHub link.

Introduction

BugMagic is a somewhat unique (but ultimately, not really) take on the idea of a magic mod in Minecraft, but still quite traditional in other aspects.

Join the BugMagic channel in the MMD Discord server!

The basic idea of the mod is to obtain useful spells from crafting together parts of lesser bugs with an altar. Bug parts being obtained by first catching a few bugs with a bug net, then putting them into a bug jar and then examining them with a magnifying glass.

What's In The Mod?

Currently, within the mod, there are three spells -- the Firefly, the Bugpack and the Wurm, the bug jar, cauldron and altar. There is also the generic bug wand, the bug net, bug parts and the magnifying glass and blank scrolls. There is also a guide with fancy profile and crafting pages for spells, given you also have GuideAPI.

Planned Features

  • An in-game guidebook
  • More spells
  • A spell API
  • Rendering of items on top of or around the altar
  • Baubles
  • Spells for Botania
  • Spells for BloodMagic

Compatibility

Currently, the mod does not contain compatibility for other mods, but some compatibility is planned.

Modpack Permission

This mod can be redistributed and included in any form, due to the MIT license, however, also due to the license, you must include the original license (showing my copyright) with the redistribution.

Footnotes

In order for the Firefly to provide visible light (on client side), you will need Mirage, a fork of Albedo. I'm planning on writing a compatibility library to allow one or the other of these to be used, as they're incompatible, which will be a required library.

Everything in this mod is subject to change, and I plan to perform annually, at least semi-rewrites of the mod, to improve each aspect and add new ones.

The mod is currently partially uninspired and lacking ideas, at least for early, general gameplay. Suggestions are greatly welcomed.

Suggestions can be submitted either through the issue tracker or in the BugMagic channel on the "Minecraft Mod Development" Discord server. Development updates can be tracked with commits on the repo, the "features and enhancements" board in the project tab of the repo or in the MMD Discord server.
