What's new
BroadcastCraft 0.2.1
A big usability and content update — and the one that answers the feedback from the comments.
Easier to get into
Two of you said the mod is hard to start with. Both are addressed:
- Broadcast Handbook — a new in-game book. Eleven chapters, including a seven-step build-along that takes you from an empty field to a working station, and a troubleshooting page explaining what every monitor status colour means. It's the first item in the creative tab.
- Twelve advancements that walk you along the signal chain: camera → mixer → linking tool → monitor → ON AIR → station → remote. Finish them and you've built a working station without anyone telling you how.
New
- Ten studio props, picked from what a real gallery actually contains: Fresnel studio light, ceiling softbox, PAR can, softbox on a stand, cyclorama floor light and lighting truss — all of which genuinely light your set — plus boom and desk microphones, a studio clock and a green screen.
- Broadcast Server block.
- Mixer keybinds — ALT+1–4 to preview a camera, ALT+C to cut, ALT+B for black. They work without the mixer screen open, so you can watch the studio instead of having the UI cover the cameras you're judging. Rebindable in Controls.
- Optional Simple Voice Chat support — speak in front of a camera that's on Program and you're heard from every television tuned to that station, anywhere in the world. Nothing changes if you don't have Simple Voice Chat.
- Analog picture look for televisions: PAL or NTSC scanlines and colour cast, off by default in the config.
- Blocks now have mining tags, so a pickaxe actually helps.
- The vision mixer makes a sound when you cut.
Changed
- New models for the camera, vision mixer and monitors, made by a community artist — this answers "will you make the textures better".
- All item icons redrawn as one consistent set.
- The ON AIR sign, cable reel, rack unit and presenter desk are no longer plain cubes. The ON AIR sign's lit state is now actually visible; before, a powered sign looked identical to an unpowered one.
- Decorative props have proper hitboxes — a microphone stand no longer has the collision box of a solid cubic metre.
Fixed
- Broadcast Monitors and Vision Mixers no longer let you see through the world.
- The Broadcast Server dropped nothing when broken, and neither it nor the Handbook could be crafted.
- Three recipes were broken by a typo in an item id.
- The TV remote was still using vanilla's comparator texture.
Known limitation: shaderpacks
With Iris/Oculus and a shaderpack enabled, camera feeds are paused and monitors show a standby screen. Everything comes back the instant you turn shaders off.
This is not laziness. Feeds work by rendering the world a second time into an off-screen texture, and that is exactly the stage a shader pipeline replaces — doing it anyway corrupted the frame. A cheaper workaround was built and tested against Oculus + Embeddium + Complementary, and it crashed on world entry, so it was removed. Making it work properly would mean a full shader pipeline per camera feed — roughly the cost of running a second game — which is not a trade worth making for a picture on a monitor.
The mod detects your shader mod at startup and says so in the log, so future reports carry that context.
