brewingteatales-neoforge-1.21.1 v2.0.0
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
Changelog
2.0.0
The mod has been rebuilt from scratch. Brewing a cup of tea used to mean dropping a tea bag and a glass of water into a crafting grid: two clicks and done. Now you actually brew it — put the kettle on, heat the water, build the cup — and that's what earns this version its number.
Along the way, Fabric and NeoForge now come from the same code, so the two versions can no longer drift apart.
Brewing a cup
No drink is crafted anymore. There's one way to make one, and it's physical:
- Place the cup on the ground.
- Add the tea bag — or the ingredient, for drinks that don't use one.
- Pour in the milk, if the drink calls for it.
- Pour the boiling kettle over it.
Milk and water can go in either order, and picking up a half-made cup gives you everything back: the container, the tea bag and the milk. Changing your mind costs you nothing.
Still crafted at a table: tea bags, containers, pastries, the kettle and the tea stand.
The kettle
All of it lives in your hand, not in a block:
- Right-click water with an empty kettle to fill it. It holds 5 cups.
- Put it in a furnace, smoker or campfire and it comes out boiling. The durability bar shows how much water is left.
- Right-click a cup on the ground to pour one serving.
An empty kettle can also be placed as decoration with sneak + right-click.
Cups
A placed cup used to be a solid cube with an almost blank texture. Now it's a real cup: hollow, with a handle, and you can see the drink inside.
All fifteen drinks can be placed, not just green tea. Each one takes its colour from its own item sprite, and glass mugs render translucent. A freshly poured drink gives off steam.
Place them with right-click, pick them up with sneak + right-click. Without sneaking, right-click does what it always did: drink it, or fill the glass if you're aiming at water.
In your inventory and in your hand they show as their pixel art sprite, not as the block.
The tall glass and iced coffee
Iced coffee now has a glass of its own: tall, no handle, tapering toward the bottom. It's the only cold drink in the mod, so it's built differently — no kettle water, ice instead:
- Place the tall glass.
- Add the coffee beans.
- The milk.
- The ice, and it's served. You can see the cubes inside.
The tall glass only takes cold drinks and every other cup only takes hot ones. Use the wrong container and the game tells you, instead of doing nothing. Cold drinks don't steam.
Sweeten your tea
Any drink plus honey or sugar, either at a crafting table or poured straight onto a cup you've already served:
- Honeyed drinks feed you more.
- Sweetened with sugar, the effect goes up a level but lasts half as long.
It adds no new items: the same drink changes its name and its effect, so the creative menu still has one entry per drink.
The tea master villager
Build a tea stand and an unemployed villager will take the job. They buy leaves and matcha, and sell seeds, empty tea bags, the containers, and from expert level the tea bags that don't come from common flowers. At master level they sell the only galaxy tea bag you can get without going to the End.
Coffee
Coffee beans are sold by the tea master and occasionally by the wandering trader. They can't be farmed.
Harvest without breaking the plant
A grown tea plant is harvested with right-click: it drops leaves and grows back on its own, like sweet berries. No breaking and replanting.
Every drink tells you what it does
Tooltips show a flavour line and the effects with their durations, in the same format potions use. If you sweetened it, the numbers shown are the adjusted ones.
With Jade, you can see what a cup is missing
Point at a cup and it tells you where it's at: ready to drink, or still waiting on milk, ice or boiling water. No more guessing why it won't pour.
With JEI, every recipe is listed
Since brewing is no longer an ordinary recipe, JEI had no way to show it. There are now two sections of our own:
- Preparing a Cup, with the steps for each of the fifteen drinks.
- Sweetening, which never showed up anywhere before because the result depends on which drink you use.
Effects
Every drink does something different. Fabric and NeoForge used to give different effects for the same tea, and several NeoForge teas all repeated Health Boost.
| Drink | Effect |
|---|---|
| Tea | none |
| Green Tea | Health Boost |
| Matcha Tea | Regeneration |
| Chai Tea | Strength |
| Earl Grey Tea | Night Vision |
| Chamomile Tea | Fire Resistance |
| Black Tea | Resistance |
| Cinnamon Tea | Speed |
| Hibiscus Flower Tea | Instant Health |
| Butterfly Pea Tea | Slow Falling |
| Galaxy Tea | Jump Boost II + Haste + Health Boost II |
| Boba Tea | Absorption II |
| Matcha Latte | Regeneration + Resistance |
| Chai Latte | Strength + Speed |
| Iced Coffee | Speed II + Haste |
Teas are light food (2). Lattes, boba, coffee and pastries feed you like a meal (4).
Other changes
- There's a plain tea now, no effects, for when you just want tea.
- Tea seeds turn up in village house chests. Crafting them used to be the only way to start.
- The wandering trader carries seeds and coffee beans.
- Everything composts: leaves, seeds, matcha, tapioca, tea bags and pastries.
- The mod is translated to Spanish (Spain, Mexico and Argentina).
- Ten advancements of its own, from planting your first seed to brewing every tea.
- Its own drinking sound, distinct from eating.
- Galaxy tea now costs chorus fruit instead of pink dye. It was too cheap for the mod's premium tea.
- Conventional
c:tags (c:foods,c:drinks,c:crops,c:seeds) let other mods recognise the mod's content.
Fixes
- Kettles and glasses fill again when you aim at water. If there was a block behind the water within reach, the click ended up placing the container on the bottom instead of filling it.
- The glass isn't lost anymore. Drinking a tea while holding more than one used to swallow the empty glass. Now it always comes back, and drops on the floor if your inventory is full.
- Teas sound like a drink, not like food.
- Filling a glass behaves like a vanilla bottle: it respects area protection, it plays a sound, and with a stack of glasses it uses one instead of replacing the whole stack.
- The tea plant always returns its seed. Breaking it at the wrong stage used to leave you with nothing.
- The creative menu no longer sorts by tags, so the order is always the same.
- Name fixes: "Bag Green tea" → "Bag Green Tea", "Earl Grey tea" → "Earl Grey Tea", "Matcha latte" → "Matcha Latte". The glass of water is now "Glass of Water" and the bags are "Tea Bag" / "Empty Tea Bag".
