Description

Settlements: Beta Release

Transform your villages into a living community.

Villagers wake to their own plans, work their jobs, gather to barter and gossip, and keep a shared economy running — each with a name, a personality, and a mind of their own.

Settlements rebuilds the vanilla villager from the ground up. Instead of shuffling between a bed, a workstation, and a bell, every villager now runs a full daily life: a personal schedule, a profession they actually practice, relationships with their neighbors, and a memory of the world around them.

This mod is in the early stages of beta release. Expect rough edges, and please report any issues you find!

Licensed under GPL-3.0. Made by Breeze and the Settlements community.

Community Ports

NeoForge 1.21.1 is currently the only officially supported version of Settlements. While community members are welcome to port the open-source code to other mod loaders, these third-party ports are provided as-is without official support.

You can find an unofficial Fabric port (AI-assisted, created by 羽化 / 2031174031) under the Files tab.

Features

Villagers with a mind of their own

  • Personal day plans — every villager builds its own schedule of work, rest, meals, and errands. Work days and rest days feel different.
  • Names & personalities — each villager carries a unique name and a distinct Character that shapes how they behave and speak.
  • Genetics — six inherited traits (Strength, Constitution, Agility, Intelligence, Will, Charisma) affect health, speed, work efficiency, trade prices, and more. Traits pass down through breeding — twins included.
  • Origins that matter — village-born, a settler from distant lands, or a cured zombie who still has nightmares about the dark. Backstory shows in what they say.
  • Speech bubbles — contextual chatter for mornings, evenings, work, rest, panic, spotting a zombie, and more.

A day's work

Villagers don't just stand at a job site — they go out and do the job. Depending on profession, they'll:

  • Farm & forage — cultivate plots, harvest crops, pumpkins, melons, sugar cane, sweet berries, nether wart, honeycomb, and honey
  • Mine & smith — mine and blast ore, cut stone, forge tools, and craft goods
  • Tend animals — shear and dye sheep, milk cows, breed livestock, butcher for food, chase chickens, and throw eggs
  • Fish, enchant, and brew — cast lines, enchant gear, smoke meat, and throw potions
  • Care for pets — tame wolves and cats, then feed, wash, pet, and walk them
  • Keep the village running — repair iron golems, ring the bell, scavenge, survey the landscape, and manage chests

Villagers grow expertise in their craft over time, getting faster and more productive at what they do.

A living economy

  • Villagers trade with each other, not just with you — moving goods around a shared settlement economy.
  • They collect demanded items, stock and restock, donate emeralds to those in need, and manage their own chests.

A social village

  • Courtship & relationships between villagers
  • Gossip — villagers spread news and rumors amongst themselves
  • Gatherings at the bell to meet and catch up
  • Reactions to the world: spotting zombies, sighting a golem, etc
