With update alpha 1.6-alpha comes the ranged update!

Bringing several new items and new features, we recommend the use of a mod such as JEI to help you figure out the crafting recipes.

+Added guns
Guns are a new type of ranged weapon, bringing a new way to fight from long distances. Featuring high damage at the cost of long load times.
The guns are:

 >Flintlock pistol - low damage, uses musket balls as ammo

 >Musket - high damage, uses musket balls as ammo

 >Blunderbuss - high damage, uses bundle shots as ammo

All guns also need to be loaded with gunpowder in order to shoot, but, they also accept fire charges, which will set your shots ablaze

+Added throwable weapons

No longer just for melee, these weapons can all now be charged to throw! 

The throwable weapons are:

 >Daggers
 >Battleaxes
 >Spears

All of these weapons come in all vanilla tiers, from wood to netherite. Thrown weapons do the damage they would have dealt if used as a melee weapon.

+Halberds (and spears) received a rework

Halberds have altered! Now, using the item will toggle between axe stance and spear stance.

Axe stance has lower range, but more damage and the ability to disable shields.

Spear stance has higher range and the ability to pierce through armor, dealing more damage to armored foes. (Thrown spears can do this as well!)

+Added fire rods

Easy to craft and easy to use, these weapons can be thrown to start fires, or used as melee weapons in a pinch. I wouldn't rely on the durability though.

+Added longbows

Stronger, harder and better than your standard bow, what else is there to say? Oh, they look very cool!
