Bounty Hunt Reforged
A hardcore PvP bounty system for NeoForge servers. Players put real items on each other's heads, hunters accept contracts and track their target with a battery-powered compass, and the hunted fight back with smoke bombs. Every shortcut has a price: cancelling costs you, combat-logging costs you, and killing outside a contract turns you into the target.
How a Hunt Works
- Place a bounty – open the Bounty Board, pick a player and deposit items into their bounty pot.
- Accept the contract – a hunter takes the job and receives a tracking compass. The target is warned and receives smoke bombs.
- Hunt – follow the compass before the contract runs out.
- Claim – kill the target to collect the entire pot.
Features
All numbers below are defaults – every one of them can be changed in the config.
The Bounty Board
- A placeable board block – players simply right-click it, no commands needed.
- Shows every player with their skin, bounty value, kills, deaths, K/D and online status – 5 per page, with an online/offline filter.
- Updates live while open: countdowns and hunter counts tick without reopening the board.
- Preview any bounty's loot before you commit to the hunt.
- Top-3 leaderboard of the most successful hunters.
Placing Bounties
- Bounties are paid in items, not money. New deposits merge into the existing pot.
- Up to 2 slots per deposit, a 60-minute cooldown between bounties, and an item blacklist.
Contracts
- Up to 4 hunters can chase the same target, but each hunter can only run one contract at a time.
- Contracts last 2 hours. If time runs out, the hunt ends, the hunter gets a 30-minute cooldown and the bounty stays up for someone else.
- Cancel within the first 5 minutes for free. After that you take on a debt and a cooldown – and you can't accept new contracts until you pay the debt off with emeralds or diamonds.
- You can't hunt yourself or your teammates.
The Tracking Compass
- Points at your target – but only while held in your main hand. Stowed away, it hides the target's position.
- Runs on a battery: 20 minutes of active tracking, then it burns out and recharges for 40 minutes.
- Shows the target's last known position (updated every 5 minutes) and the time left on your contract.
- Soulbound: it can't be dropped, stays with you when you die, and crumbles to dust if anyone else ends up holding it.
Being Hunted
- You're warned the moment a hunter accepts your bounty, again when one gets within 300 blocks, and you hear a heartbeat once they're within 50.
- Smoke bombs (6 per hunt): complete invisibility for 35 seconds – armor and held items included – puts out fire and jams every hunter's compass for 60 seconds.
- While hunted, you visibly bleed below half health.
Claiming the Bounty
- The hunter receives every item in the pot plus 10 XP levels.
- The target drops a trophy head, lightning strikes, and the whole server sees the kill.
Murder & High Wanted
- Any player kill outside an accepted contract is murder. Teamkills and suicides don't count.
- Murderers are flagged High Wanted: they lose their insurance, get 10 diamonds added to their own bounty (per victim, with a cooldown), glow on the board and are announced to the whole server when they join.
- Nearby players who aren't on the murderer's team get a danger warning.
Insurance
- Buy protection with emeralds, diamonds or netherite for up to 3 days – while insured, nobody can accept a contract on you.
- Committing a murder voids it instantly, and High Wanted players can't buy it at all.
Combat-Log Penalties
- Logging out while a hunter is within 300 blocks costs 5 XP levels on the spot, plus Slowness, Weakness and Bad Luck on your next login.
Built for Servers
- Exploit-hardened menus – every screen is server-authoritative. Display items can't be taken, buttons only react to real clicks, and items in the deposit screen are returned even if the player disconnects.
- FTB Teams support (optional) – teammates and allies can't hunt each other, teamkills aren't murder, and players aren't warned about their own teammates. The mod works fine without FTB Teams.
- Persistent – bounties, contracts, stats and cooldowns survive server restarts.
- Fully configurable – every duration, range, price and penalty lives in
config/bounty_hunt_reforged-common.toml.
