Block Planner - Materials

A JEI addon for Block Planner that shows your planned blocks' direct recipe ingredients, combines material counts, and lets you choose recipes and alternatives. Client-side only.

Block Planner Materials

Turn your building plan into an ingredient list.

Block Planner Materials connects Block Planner with Just Enough Items (JEI) to show what you need to craft the blocks in your design. Choose recipes, select ingredient alternatives, and copy a combined list of materials before you start gathering.

The material tree stays focused on one recipe level: each planned block and the ingredients directly used to make it. For example, two chests require sixteen planks. The addon stops at planks instead of expanding their recipes into logs and additional acquisition methods.

Features

  • Direct ingredient trees: see your planned blocks and the materials used in their selected recipes.
  • Combined material counts: add shared ingredients across the whole design and account for recipes that produce multiple items per craft.
  • Recipe selection: choose how to make each planned block, or mark it as something you will gather directly.
  • Ingredient alternatives: select which wood, glass, or other accepted item to use, with searchable recipe and ingredient lists.
  • JEI access: open the selected item's recipes in JEI for a closer look.
  • Copyable reports: export material quantities, stack equivalents, selected recipes, and direct dependencies.
  • English and Japanese UI: the interface follows Minecraft's language setting.
  • Client-side operation: no server installation, block placement, or inventory consumption.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.247 as the target environment
  • Java 21
  • Block Planner 0.1.7
  • JEI 19.44.0.401 or later in the 19.x series, using the Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge build

This is an addon. Both Block Planner and JEI are required.

Installation

Close Minecraft and place these files in your client's mods folder:

  • blockplanner-1.21.1-0.1.7.jar
  • blockplanner-materials-1.21.1-0.1.2.jar
  • The compatible JEI JAR

Replace older versions of the same mod rather than installing them together. If you already have Block Planner 0.1.7, only the addon needs to be added or updated.

Getting started

  1. Hover over a block in your inventory or JEI and press G to open Block Planner.
  2. Arrange the blocks in your design, then click Materials beside Save and Copy list.
  3. View planned blocks and their direct ingredients on the left, and combined gathering requirements on the right.
  4. Select a planned block and use Recipe... or Ingredients... to change its recipe or input choices.
  5. Use Copy report or Ctrl+C to copy the result.

Right-click a planned-block row to fold or unfold its ingredients. Scroll either panel under the cursor. Gather directly leaves a planned block unexpanded; choose Automatic in its recipe list to resume calculation. Show in JEI opens the selected item's recipes manually.

How quantities are calculated

The addon groups identical planned blocks, calculates the whole recipe batches needed to make them, and adds their direct ingredient requirements together. Select a planned block to see its required quantity, crafting operations, and surplus.

If two different recipes need three and five of the same ingredient, the total is eight. Repeated ingredient rows in the tree are references to that combined total, not additional requirements. Different item data components are counted separately.

Ingredients are not expanded further, even when the same item also appears as a planned block. Surplus from one planned-block recipe is not automatically reused by another recipe. The addon does not compare requirements with your inventory or choose the cheapest recipe automatically.

Recipe support

Readable item recipes from crafting tables, furnaces, blast furnaces, smokers, and stonecutters are selected automatically. When several valid recipes are available, you can change the selection.

Other machine recipes require manual selection and are labeled as estimates. They must expose readable item inputs and a single item output. Check quantities, output chances, and any extra conditions in JEI.

Recipes with fluid or gas inputs, multiple or variable outputs, returned containers, reusable tools, or unreadable layouts are left unexpanded. The planned item's required quantity remains in the gathering list, with an explanation available in the recipe chooser.

Fuel, energy, and catalysts are not included. Recipes hidden in JEI are not searched. Bounded recipe searches also leave any requirements they cannot resolve visible in the list.

FAQ

Does it expand everything into raw resources?

No. It stops at the ingredients directly required by each planned block's recipe.

Can I change the recipe or the type of wood used?

Yes. Select the planned block, then open Recipe... or Ingredients.... Available alternatives come from JEI.

Does it remember my recipe choices?

Choices remain available while that material-tree screen is open, including visits to JEI. They are not saved across closing and reopening the screen or restarting Minecraft.

Does the list update when I edit my design?

The screen uses the design as it was when opened. After editing the design, open Materials again to calculate its updated requirements.

Does it craft or build anything automatically?

No. It displays and copies requirements for your plan.
