What's new
2.0.0: The Gloaming Grove Update
This is the big one. Up until now we've mostly been bringing back the things Biomes O' Plenty lost over the years. This update is the first thing that's truly ours: a new biome, a new boss, and a lot of love for the Promised Land. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.
New Biome: The Gloaming Grove
- A twilight biome hidden among the Promised Land's islands. Wisteria canopies overhead, navy stone and gloom soil underfoot, and a forest floor that's actually alive: violets, purple wildflowers, clover, sprouts, mushrooms, and wisteria petals drifting down to settle wherever they land.
- Moths! Three colours of them, fluttering through the dark and drawn to any light you carry. Pixies now keep to the Loft Forest, so each biome has a creature to call its own.
- Two new plants worth knowing: Belladonna, a tall and lovely bell-flower whose berries will absolutely poison you (stew the flower instead, it grants night vision), and the pale Ghost Flower of the shaded grove.
- Somewhere deep in the grove, on solid ground, stands the Gloaming Castle. Look for the dark fountain on the horizon.
New Boss: The Cackler
- A black sphere that laughs at you. Summon it at the Shadow Altar with a Nether Star, and bring friends if you can. It gets tougher for every player present, from 500 HP alone up to 1200 with ten of you.
- In its first phase it dashes around you in sweeping arcs, throws volleys of black stars, and drips shadow goop you do not want to stand under. Every laugh bursts into a ring of stars, so keep moving.
- At half health the laughing stops. The mouth vanishes, the eye opens, and it starts teleporting around you. Watch the pupil: when it narrows, a slash is coming, three blocks tall and very unfriendly. The lower its health, the faster it comes.
- Beat it and it drops the Shadow Star. Combine that with a Depleted Ancient Staff and the Shadow Staff is yours: a fully animated two-handed staff with a three-slash combo (left, overhead, right) that flings fans of black stars.
New Blocks and Wood
- The full Wisteria wood set: logs, planks, stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors, signs, hanging signs, boats (chest boats too), and bookshelves that feed your enchanting table just like the vanilla ones.
- The Navy Stone family, with cobblestone, brick, mossy, and cracked variants, plus gloom dirt and gloom grass for the grove floor.
- The Shadow Beacon, a black fountain that pierces the sky and marks the grove's heart.
- Shadow Tar, sticky darkness that bogs down anything wading through it. Mine it for Abyssal Goop.
- The Shadow Altar, where the Cackler waits to be called.
New Art
- Four new paintings in the painting pool. Yes, one of them is the one you think it is.
Changes
- Scythes finally do scythe things! One swing clears plants and leaves in a wide area (up to 5x5x5 on the higher tiers), and they hit hard enough now to double as weapons. Not quite a sword, but with a much heavier arc.
- The Promised Land's main biome now has a proper name: the Loft Forest. It also got noticeably bushier, with oak bushes and far denser flower patches in both biomes.
- Bowl salads are food now, plain and simple. No more placing them as blocks.
