Remastered Mod Suite - Changelog 30.5.6

Minecraft: 1.21.1 (Fabric)

Mods in This Release

  • BCLibRemastered 30.5.6
  • BetterEndRemastered 30.5.6
  • BetterNetherRemastered 30.5.6
  • WorldWeaverRemastered 30.5.6

Fix release for 30.5.5. It repairs an End world generation bug that came in with 30.5.5, so please update. It also brings custom biome fog to dedicated servers, restores several tag-based behaviours that stopped working in 30.5.2 (shears, piston immunity, portal frames, crafting tables, anvils), and fixes bonemeal, Crystalite armor, End music and a few Nether details. There are no new blocks, items or biomes. All four mods ship as 30.5.6 and must be updated together.

Updating from 30.5.4 or 30.5.5

  • No conversion needed. Existing 30.5.4 and 30.5.5 worlds and servers load with 30.5.6 as they are.
  • Nothing goes missing. No blocks, items, block states, registries or saved data were renamed or removed.
  • Existing chunks and structures stay as they are. Chunks that are already generated are never rewritten.
  • Only new chunks differ. The End cave fix, willow vine lengths, city lights and vertical biome stitching apply to newly generated chunks only. See World generation: new chunks only.
  • Back up the world before you update, as you always should.
  • Update server and clients together. Server and clients should run the same version of all four mods. A 30.5.5 client can still join a 30.5.6 server, but it does not get the custom biome fog.
  • Mixed versions are refused. BetterEnd and BetterNether 30.5.6 do not load with an older BCLibRemastered or WorldWeaverRemastered. They need 30.5.6 or newer of both.

Important: End cave bug in 30.5.5

30.5.5 introduced a world generation bug in the End. End cave features (tunnel caves, round caves) and End lakes failed during chunk generation with the error "Requested chunk unavailable during world generation". In modpacks that contain a mod that catches feature errors, these features were logged as warnings and silently skipped, so End caves and lakes were missing or incomplete. Without such a mod, End chunk generation could hang.

This is fixed in WorldWeaverRemastered 30.5.6. End caves and lakes generate again in newly generated chunks. Chunks that were generated with 30.5.5 keep the missing caves; explore new areas to get them.

World generation: new chunks only

The world generation fixes apply to newly generated chunks only. Chunks that already exist in your world are never changed, so you may see a seam where old and new chunks meet. Terrain shape is not touched by any fix. What can look different in new chunks:

  • End caves and lakes are back. See "Important: End cave bug in 30.5.5" above.
  • Willow trees. BetterNether willow vines are now 1 to 4 blocks long.
  • Nether cities. The wall and floor lights of the city palette are fixed.
  • Vertical biomes. The Nether vertical biome stitching is now the same on every worldgen thread, so it no longer depends on the order in which threads finish. This matters with mods that generate chunks in parallel, such as C2ME. Biome columns come out consistent.

Nothing here needs a new world.

Fixes by Mod

WorldWeaverRemastered

  • End cave features work again. The 30.5.5 regression described above is fixed.
  • Custom biome fog works on dedicated servers. WorldWeaver now syncs its biome data registry (only the fog density) to clients. See BCLibRemastered below.
  • Vertical biome stitching is deterministic with parallel chunk generation. The chunk columns are stitched before they are published, so there is no race between worldgen threads (for example with C2ME).
  • No "WorldPresetInfoRegistry: Registry not read" error when creating a world.
  • The structure spacing multiplier keeps working after the structure placements change.

BCLibRemastered

  • Custom biome fog on dedicated servers. Per-biome fog density of BetterEnd and BetterNether biomes now also works on dedicated servers. Before, it only worked in single player and on the LAN host.
  • Tag checks see the data again. Since 30.5.2 several checks no longer saw the tag data. This restores the behaviour from before 30.5.2:
    • Shears mine BetterEnd and BetterNether plants and leaves as intended.
    • BetterNether obsidian blocks are immovable by pistons again.
    • Blue obsidian and the other BetterNether obsidian variants count as Nether portal frames again.
    • BetterEnd and BetterNether crafting tables work as workbenches again.
    • BetterEnd and BetterNether hammers work in the anvil again.
    • Terrain checks in world generation see the right blocks again.
  • Bonemeal spreads again on Netherrack, End stone and obsidian. The tags this needs were not shipped with BCLib.
  • Structure erosion moves blocks correctly.
  • Float config values can be negative or zero.
  • Small resource leak fixes.
  • For developers and datagen: the surface rule builder now matches the WorldWeaver one. Terrain does not change.

BetterEndRemastered

  • Crystalite armor and elytra crafted before 30.5.5 are repaired automatically. When such a piece is in a player's inventory on the server, it gets the armor values of its slot, the same as new pieces. Name, enchantments, trims and damage are kept.
  • End biome music blends on dedicated servers. The music changes smoothly between End biomes there, as in single player.
  • Bonemeal works on all its targets again. The tags for the dragon bone and water grass bonemeal targets are always included, and BetterEnd ores are in wover:ores/end.

BetterNetherRemastered

  • Willow vines are 1 to 4 blocks long. New willow trees only.
  • City palette lights fixed. The wall and floor lights of the city palette are correct in newly generated cities.
  • Obsidian and portal fixes. BetterNether obsidian blocks are immovable by pistons again, and blue and other obsidian variants count as Nether portal frames. See BCLibRemastered above.

Notes for Pack Makers and Datapack Authors

  • Dedicated server fog: custom biome fog needs 30.5.6 on the client as well. WorldWeaver syncs a new biome data registry to clients, and it contains only the fog density.
  • Tags are read again. Anything that depends on BetterX tags (shears, piston immunity of BetterNether obsidian, portal frames, workbenches, anvil hammers) works as before 30.5.2. If you added overrides to work around the missing tag data, you can remove them.
  • New tag data: BCLib now ships the bonemeal spreading tags for Netherrack, End stone and obsidian, and BetterEnd ores are listed in wover:ores/end.
  • Mod compatibility: if your pack catches feature errors (for example Structure Essentials), the 30.5.5 End cave warnings in the log are gone with this release.
  • Parallel worldgen: with C2ME or similar, vertical biomes now come out the same on every run.
  • New chunks only: worldgen fixes do not rewrite existing chunks. To get them in an old world, explore new areas or start a new world.

Requirements

  • Update all four Remastered mods together to 30.5.6.
  • BetterEndRemastered 30.5.6 and BetterNetherRemastered 30.5.6 require BCLibRemastered 30.5.6 or newer and WorldWeaverRemastered 30.5.6 or newer. This is enforced: with an older BCLibRemastered or WorldWeaverRemastered the two mods refuse to load.
  • Multiplayer and dedicated servers: server and clients should run the same version of all four mods. A 30.5.5 client can still join a 30.5.6 server, but without custom biome fog.
  • Existing 30.5.4 and 30.5.5 worlds and servers need no conversion. See "Updating from 30.5.4 or 30.5.5".

Testing

  • Test totals for this release: 74 unit tests in 18 test classes, all passed (0 failures, 0 skipped). They run in the BetterEnd build, which also compiles BCLibRemastered and WorldWeaverRemastered and holds the tests for their fixes. All four release jars were built from the same commit.
  • New unit test CrystaliteArmorRepairTest (4 tests): old Crystalite armor pieces and the elytra get the armor values of their own slot, with their name and damage kept. The repaired values carry the slot suffix. Pieces that are already current, stacks without own values, other mods' values and empty stacks are left alone.
  • New unit test W6BiomeFogSyncTest (6 tests): the biome data registry is synced to clients and still loads fully from data packs on the server. The synced form carries only the fog density and the biome. It reads all BetterEnd biome data files. A client gets the fog density of sent entries, loads entries of packs it knows from its own files, and gets no fog data (vanilla fog) from a server without the synced registry.
  • New unit test BCLibTagDataTest (2 tests): every BCLib block and item tag constant has a tag file in the data of BCLib, WorldWeaver, BetterEnd or BetterNether (or on the classpath), and the tags that used to point at ids without data (shears, hammers, obsidian, portal frames, workbenches and others) now use the ids the data is written with.
  • New unit test EndBiomeCheckTest (3 tests): the End music blending recognizes BetterEnd biomes by their id alone, so it does not need server biome data. Vanilla End biomes, BetterNether biomes and a biome without an id are not recognized.
  • New unit test WoverBiomePickerRegionTest (5 tests): the biome lookup during world generation reads only the chunk of the position (all four corners, height clamped), and returns nothing for a chunk that has no biomes yet, a chunk the level does not return, and positions outside of the region. It no longer asks neighbouring chunks, which caused the End cave error.
  • Extended W3BiomeLayoutTest: vertical biome columns are identical when several threads look them up at the same time, for hex and square biome maps, with the cache cleared in between like the Nether biome source does (2 new tests).
  • Automated dedicated-server runs with a large Fabric modpack (about 300 mods), comparing 30.5.5 and 30.5.6 on a fresh world, on a copy of an existing 30.5.4 world, and with only the four Remastered mods and Fabric API. With 30.5.6 the End caves and lakes generate without errors (30.5.5: 195 "errored during placement" warnings in the modpack run, and End chunk generation stalled without the modpack), "WorldPresetInfoRegistry: Registry not read" is gone, there are no new errors or warnings, and loot tables and /locate results are the same as in 30.5.5.
  • Automated development runs of a dedicated server and a client for BetterEnd and for BetterNether: the client joins, is teleported to new chunks in the End or the Nether and back, stays connected, and leaves cleanly. A new single player world is created and an existing one is reopened. No registry sync, codec or world generation errors on the server or the client.
