BetterChat 💬

BetterChat is a client-side Minecraft mod that makes chatting more convenient, organized, and secure. No server-side installation is required — simply install the mod and use its features on any server or in single-player worlds. ✨

🌟 What Does BetterChat Do?

1. Complete Chat History 📚

BetterChat saves your chat messages throughout your entire playtime and provides a clean, dedicated interface for browsing them. By default, you can open the history screen by pressing X.

Finding an old message is quick and simple. Use the built-in search to look for a word or phrase from a message, or enter the nickname of the player who sent it. You can also narrow your search to a specific server or world. BetterChat remembers every server and world where chat history was saved, so you can view messages from a particular place separately. 🔎

2. Powerful Ignore System 🚫

Many servers provide an /ignore command, but it does not always block everything. For example, it may hide a player’s private messages while their messages in global chat remain visible.

BetterChat solves this problem with its own local ignore system. Add a player to your ignore list, and their messages will no longer appear in your chat. You can also ignore specific words: any message containing an ignored word will be hidden automatically. 🛡️

3. Chat Integrity Protection 🔒

If chat logs were stored as ordinary text files, anyone could edit them manually or add messages that were never sent. BetterChat uses protected, hashed log files to help preserve the integrity of saved chat history.

These files are not intended to be edited: they can be deleted, but changes cannot be made without invalidating their integrity. This can be useful in disputed situations, helping prevent chat records from being quietly altered or falsified. ⚖️

🚧 Development Status

BetterChat is still under active development, but all core functionality has already been implemented. A few small issues remain; however, they do not affect the mod’s main features and will be fixed soon.

🗺️ Planned Updates

The mod will continue to grow. One planned feature is a free-save mode. When enabled, chat history will be saved both as a protected log file and as a readable text file. You will be able to choose which version to use, while the mod will clearly show which format is active and whether the readable copy has been modified. 📄

Future compatibility plans include:
