Mechanics

• Mobs now only spawn at light level 3 or lower, instead of vanilla's 7. Light-proofing your builds is easier.
• Blindness now actually blinds mobs. Affected mobs see you at a much shorter range.
• Photos can be pinned into Book & Quills. Drag a photo and drop it on the book, and it lands on the next empty page.
• End Crystals are now in the creative menu and can be placed on obsidian and bedrock.
• Furnace minecarts can be fueled with lava buckets, and coal blocks too. You get the bucket back, of course.
• Signs that are already placed can be edited, and they hold more text.
• XP is stored in furnaces. Automated furnaces (hoppers) no longer throw away the experience, it is paid out when you take items out yourself.

Redstone

• Enderman Head: a new block that sends a redstone signal when a player looks at it. Crafted with 2 Eyes of Ender and 6 obsidian. It can also be worn on your head, with an interesting effect.
• Obsidian Pressure Plate: activated ONLY by players. It also works if the player is riding a mob, horse, boat or minecart.
• Comparators detect more things: flower pots (flower in it or not) and anvil damage level.
• Note blocks have more instruments. More blocks give different sounds just like in newer versions.

Building and blocks

• Coarse Dirt is backported. Grass does not spread to it, and it is crafted like in newer versions.
• Charcoal Block: a new block for storing charcoal, also works as fuel.
• Iron Trapdoor is backported, and you can now also choose trapdoor rotation much more easily.
• Solid Cobble: the stone from droppers and furnaces, like Sturdy Stone in Quark. Made with 4 cobblestone.

Night sky

• Star Expansion 3: more stars and objects in the sky visible to the naked eye, collected in a new achievement. Among them Ophiuchus, Bootes, two open star clusters and the planet Uranus.
• Lots of realism improvements along the way: stars twinkle with color near the horizon, fainter stars fade toward white just like for real eyes, the Andromeda galaxy has a nicer and more realistic shape, and a number of star positions and brightnesses have been fine-tuned against real catalogues.

Sound

• Voice chat echo and muffling: echo in caves, and muffled voices when blocks are in the way.

UI and tools

• Clock HUD: see the time on screen when you carry a clock, with a config option for showing it from anywhere in the inventory.

Commands

• Nickname command: changes a player's name on the server and the server map.

Bugfixes

• Perspective fix: when sitting in a minecart, the line you interact with things through now matches the camera.
• Achievement screen fixed.
• Photos in item frames fixed.
• Modern melon texture: the modern melon texture, made to look right in retro.
• Uranus no longer shows in twilight brighter than a planet of its magnitude ever could.

QoL

• Idle kick fix: you can no longer be kicked for "Idle too long" while writing in an open book. Going truly AFK still times out as usual.

Other

• Removed Herobrine.
