Better Ropes+

Better Ropes+ is a lightweight Fabric mod that adds a practical, reusable rope system for exploring cliffs, ravines, caves, mine shafts, and other vertical terrain.

Rather than manually placing ladders down a wall, Better Ropes+ lets you set an anchor at the top of a drop, feed rope into it, climb down, and recover the rope when you're finished.

Rope

Rope is the main climbing material used by both Spools and Pitons.

Each 1 Rope item lowers the hanging rope by up to 3 blocks, allowing you to control how far your climbing line extends.

The hanging rope:

• Can be climbed from all four sides

• Climbs naturally like a ladder or vine

• Can be used for ascending or descending

• Cannot be climbed by mobs

Rope Spool

The Rope Spool is a portable winch mounted on a stand.

Place it near the edge of a cliff, ravine, shaft, or other drop. The Spool faces the direction you were looking when you placed it and lowers its rope from that side.

Hold Rope in your hand and use it on the Spool to extend the line downward.

Each Rope added lowers the line by another 3 blocks, stopping when it reaches an obstruction or the bottom.

Pitons

Pitons provide a smaller alternative to the Rope Spool when you only need an anchor point.

The same Piton item automatically changes depending on where it is placed:

• Wall Piton — attaches directly to the side of a block, similar to a torch.

• Ceiling Piton — hangs downward from the underside of a block, similar to pointed dripstone.

Once placed, Rope can be fed into a Piton just like a Spool, with each Rope item extending the hanging line by up to 3 blocks.

This makes Pitons useful for cave walls, ceilings, overhangs, shafts, and places where a full Rope Spool would not make sense.

Retrieving Rope

Better Ropes+ is designed around reusable climbing routes.

Right-click a Rope Spool or Piton without Rope in your hand to retrieve the rope currently attached to it.

You can lower a rope, climb down to explore, return later, and collect your rope instead of leaving it permanently behind.

Breaking and Collapsing Rope

Rope also behaves naturally when its support is interrupted.

If you break a section of hanging rope, all rope below the broken section collapses downward instead of remaining suspended in midair.

The collapsed rope forms a coil on the ground.

You can then either:

• Right-click the coil to recover the Rope

• Break the coil to collect it

This allows you to cut a rope from above and retrieve the remaining material from below.
