Tired of watermelons being just "early-game temporary food" in vanilla Minecraft? The Better Melon (BM) mod reimagines watermelons by optimizing their usability, adding unique variants, exclusive tools, decorative blocks, and watermelon-themed items. It turns watermelons into a versatile element that shines in both mid-late game survival and creative building.
Overview
Revamped Edible Mechanics
Just Right-Click to Eat
- Now, right-clicking on a watermelon block or a partially eaten watermelon block allows you to eat it directly. Among them, the glowing watermelon block can be eaten continuously even when the hunger bar is full. The watermelon steps and watermelon stairs corresponding to the different new varieties of watermelons added by the mod can also be eaten by right-clicking.
- Each consumption will use up a quarter of the watermelon block, and the appearance of the block will correspondingly show the remaining part.

Melon Variants
Three new watermelon types are addd with distinct effects:
- Yellow-Fleshed Melon: A cosmetic variant with the same hunger restoration as vanilla.
- Unripe Melon: 40% chance to give the Hunger effect when eaten.
- Glistening Melon: Restores 2 extra health points (1 heart) per bite.

Partially Eaten Melon Blocks
- Partially eaten watermelon blocks (e.g., 1/4 slices) can be held and eaten directly. A "small slice" takes only 16 game ticks to eat (half the time of regular food), making it a quick hunger fix.
- Half-eaten melon cubes can be used as "vertical half-bricks".
Decorative Melon Blocks
Melon Stairs & Slabs:
- 4 variants (Vanilla, Yellow-Fleshed, Unripe, Glowing) + waxed versions.
- Waxed blocks prevent accidental eating.
- Pro Tip: Build with edible melon blocks—you can eat them when you're hungry!

Carved Melon
- Carved Watermelons: Use scissors on a vanilla watermelon block to create a carved design.
- Carved melon with light sources (e.g., torches, glowstone) to make Glowing Carved Watermelons.

Feature Elements

Sneak right-click (unwaxed) melon block = stairs |
Sneak right-click (unwaxed)melon stairs = slabs |

 |
Combat Effect: Has a chance to apply the [Bleeding] effect to mobs when attacked.
Curse
Huaqiang Melon Knife has an exclusive enchantment Not Ripe, with a maximum level of 2. This is a "treasure curse enchantment".
Lv.1: 50% chance to get an Unripe Melon when cutting vanilla watermelons.
Lv.2: 100% chance to get an Unripe Melon.
Using this enchantment to cut watermelons is the only way to obtain unripe watermelons. The mod gives players the choice of experience — they can either enjoy the fun easter eggs of the mod or focus on survival gameplay, without worrying that unripe watermelons will affect agricultural efficiency.
Four new related advancements have been added.
