What is Better Lore?

Better Lore adds a survival-friendly extension to the anvil. You can now create unique items by customizing their name or adding lore to them using the anvil!

Create named weapons, roleplay items, quest rewards, trophies, server event items or just give your favorite tools a little more personality.

Features

• Add lore to any item through the anvil, it can utilize colors, gradients or formatting to stand out.
• Customize item names in the same way as lore. The tags don't count towards character limit and the limit itself is larger than vanilla, so you can easily name your sword with something like Dark King Grutmore's Edge of Annihilation or just settle down with The Throngler.
• Rename your pets, armor stands, minecarts, blocks and many more! They keep their properties both in your inventory and when placed in the world.
• Pick colors with RGB sliders, direct hex input, a color wheel or just let the randomizer decide for you.
• Use can also directly edit the colors used in the tags to achieve a gradient composed of 3 or more colors.
• Lore changes add one extra level to the anvil cost.
• Works with normal survival mechanics and should be compatible with most mods, since the mod, tries to manage only its own lore and append it to the items. If you've found an incopatibility and want it fixed, let me know through the issues.
• Compatible with JEI and REI layouts.
• Vanilla clients can still join servers with Better Lore installed. This allows players who wantthe mod on their client to utilize the features, while others are not forced to download it.

What tags can I use to name item?

Just utilize the following supported tags:

Installation

Requirements

• Minecraft Java Edition 26.1.2
• Fabric Loader (no need on Forge/NeoForge)
• Fabric API (no need on Forge/NeoForge)
• For versions 1.3.0 and below Text Placeholder API is needed on Fabric

Client and server behavior

Install Better Lore on the server to enable anvil-based lore and name editing.

Install Better Lore on the client to use the custom anvil UI.

Players without the client mod can still join a modded server, but they will only see the normal vanilla anvil screen.
