Bring immersive lighting to your Minecraft adventures.

Better Light is a lightweight Forge mod that lets you carry lanterns naturally, explore with both hands free, and interact with light sources in a more intuitive way. Instead of constantly holding a lantern, simply equip it on your belt and let it illuminate your path while you mine, fight, or build.

Features

• 🏮 Dynamic Lighting Light sources emit dynamic light while held or equipped on your belt, fading in and out smoothly rather than switching instantly — making cave exploration much more immersive.

• 👖 Belt Lantern Attach a lantern to your belt and keep both hands free. The lantern is fully rendered on your player model with smooth movement and realistic swinging while walking, running, or jumping.

• 🖱️ Quick Pickup Pick up placed lanterns and torches with a simple Right Click — no need to break and replace them.

• ✨ Smooth Animations The belt lantern features natural motion with smooth interpolation and realistic sway, making it feel like part of your equipment instead of a static model.

• 🌬️ Hanging Lantern Physics (New) Lanterns hung from chains around the world now sway in a simulated wind, with extra motion during rain, thunderstorms, and at night — and stay nearly still in dimensions without weather, like the Nether and the End.

• 🌒 Monster Light Effect (New) A lit belt lantern makes you noticeable to nearby monsters from farther away, but the light also weakens them, applying periodic Weakness while they linger nearby. Fully optional and configurable.

• 🎨 Colored Glow Support (New) Other mods can register decorative glow colors for their own light-emitting items, shown as subtle particle effects near the item.

• ⚙️ Configurable Customize the lantern's position, rotation, offsets, swing feel, and other visual and gameplay settings to match your preferences — either through the config files or an in-game settings screen.

Compatibility

Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, Current Version.

v1.0.1 (Public API available) This release expands on the initial core experience with a public API for other mods to register custom light sources, hook into the belt system, and sync with Better Light's wind and lighting calculations. It also adds hanging lantern physics and the monster light-weakness effect. Future updates are planned to introduce additional supported light sources, accessory support, and expanded compatibility with other mods.

Better Light is designed to enhance vanilla gameplay while staying lightweight, immersive, and multiplayer-friendly.
